I don’t know much about Uber, etc but are you saying that this car may have had an Uber sticker and was just kinda trolling looking for someone who looked like they were waiting on a car? That’s pretty sick and pretty cold if that’s the case.
I've used it to go from my daughter's to the train stations and quite frankly, never even looked for a sticker. But the app tells you the driver's name, where he/she is in relation to pick up spot, when will arrive and also gives a rating of the driver with other people's reviews. It tracked the car and let me know when he was there to pick me up. If you pay attention, it's not difficult to use it and to be safe.

Obviously not foolproof though, as we can see in this situation....unless Samantha knew (recognized) the person driving the car and got in because of that. To me, it seems more likely she mistook it for her ride share pickup. JMO

And from what I had read earlier, pretty quickly after she left in that black car is when her original/true Uber pulled up. If the timeframe was that quick then isn't it possible she was tracking the Uber on her phone and assumed that was her correct ride due to the GPS and timeframe?

Yeah, that part threw me off as well. It was so bang bang, it almost looked like it was a ride/vehicle she expected. Looked like she just walked up and got in the car without anything being spoken between her and the car's occupant(s)

I think the saddest part is that she was likely just a crime of opportunity. Unless someone who was with her that night orchestrated this... No random stranger would have known that this particular girl would call an Uber at this exact time... she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time- much like I believe Jassy Correia was.

Exactly. Someone saw an opportunity here, and took it.

I’ve made the mistake (intoxicated and otherwise) of getting in the wrong car when I’ve used Uber (I quickly realized my error).

I’m a guy though, so I obviously didn’t have the concerns that a female would have.

Atleast this will almost certainly have a quick resolution.

Jassy was so sad. They said JC was not sexually assaulted, correct? So I can't even imagine what that idiot who killed her cited as a motive. Glad my hometown's state police pulled his pathetic *advertiser censored* over before he could get where he was going to do what he was going to do to the corpse.

I can’t even with that whole case. It was like an episode of “how to not get away with murder” ... luckily for LE. What a head scratcher.

The driver should also have known what her destination was. When you order the car you put in the destination which then tells you how long a ride it is. No way a fake driver would know without asking her.

I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve ever taken an Uber for this reason. As a single, mid twenties woman, I don’t feel like it’s any safer than taking public transit after a night out.

Yes I was replying to bestill who wondered about the Uber sticker and someone posing as a driver. I agree it would be really sick if that’s what happened! But we don’t know that of course.

She was already in the car. Door shut. Car moving. Conversation after this point is mute.
UNTIL they catch the person responsible and interview him. MOO of course.

I only meant that’s a way to be sure it’s the right driver. Ask them before getting in the car. Hindsight I know and who thinks of all these things on spur of the moment? Just a suggestion for keeping safe.

Missing USC student Samantha Josephson ‘is no longer with us,’ father says, university also confirms

“As you make plans for the weekend, remember the tenets of Stand Up Carolina: look out for one another, be active bystanders,” the president’s statement continues. “Travel in groups and stay together. If you have not already done so, download the RAVE Guardian safety app, set up your profile and learn how to use it. It has been a difficult week for our extended Carolina family. The loss of a student is never easy but this has been a particularly painful few days as we have experienced loss on several of our campuses. As a family, let’s continue to pray for all the families experiencing heartache and grief this week.”

At night, I always check the license plate even if other vehicles are behind honking, waiting, getting annoyed, etc:

<snip> When you see your driver's vehicle at your pickup location, confirm that the license plate number displayed in your app matches the actual vehicle.

How to identify a driver and vehicle

When others have ordered a vehicle for me, they send me license plate #. I learned this ^^ from young females who use ride sharing apps esp in late eve/early morn hours & when riding alone.

Looks like this reporter has verified the Uber info
