I believe that the resistance to releasing Shannan Gilbert’s 911 phone call recording has less to do with fear of possible criminal culpability on the part of Law Enforcement and more to do with fear of possible civil liability on the part of Law Enforcement. There were mistakes made in that 911 call that ultimately cost Shannan Gilbert her life.
Joseph Brewer and Michael Pak are implicated in Shannan Gilbert’s death, we cannot trust what they’re telling us, and perhaps the 911 recording will validate or invalidate their stories.
We don’t need the 911 recording to validate to us that Shannan was in fear for her life. The witness statements from Gus Colleti and Barbara Brennan alone tell us that.
Whatever is discovered in the release of the 911 recording will not negate the fact that Shannan Gilbert was in fear for her life inside Joseph Brewer’s house, she fled down the road begging for help from 911 and anyone she could come into contact with.
It will not negate the fact that the last reported sighting of her was in the immediate vicinity of Peter Hackett’s house.
It will not negate the fact that Michael Pak left Oak Beach without Shannan Gilbert, and without giving any information to Law Enforcement regarding what happened.
It will not negate the fact that Peter Hackett contacted Mari Gilbert regarding Shannan’s whereabouts and well-being, or that he told Mari Gilbert that he had Shannan Gilbert in his care at one point that morning.
It will not negate the fact that Peter Hackett nearly admitted to 48 Hours that he had medically treated Shannan Gilbert that morning.
It will not negate the fact that Shannan Gilbert’s belongings were found in the immediate vicinity of Peter Hackett’s house, and her body found in the marsh behind Peter Hackett’s house.
The circumstantial evidence all points toward the two people who last saw Shannan Gilbert alive, Peter Hackett and Michael Pak.
I believe that that makes more sense than Shannan Gilbert running from Barbara Brennan’s house into the marsh behind Peter Hackett’s house and straight into the clutches of Unsub who just happened to be there at that time.
