I was thinking about my Grandfather this morning- he died in the war (the war in Italy). I never met him, but my mother told me about him when I was young. She told me they drafted him, even tho' he had a wife and 7 children, into the Fascist army. I don't even know what he looked like. I do have a letter he wrote to his family when he was in the war. He really loved his large family.
I'm grateful that my sons are still with me and there is no draft now (I guess I'm selfish).
My father loved America ("America is good"). He was 14 when he came to the USA and always talked about how grateful he was to be able to be free here.
I love America, too. We're not perfect, but we try hard, IMO. (just sappy stuff this AM from me :blushing:). :loveyou:

I know I have posted this before, but it's my favorite song:

Happy Veterans Day! My husband is an Iraq vet so today is always a special day for him. He actually got injured at work and tore his ACL so he's off work until after his surgery (thank god he still gets paid) so today him and a few of the guys in his brigade are going to the local Legion. We live near a really nice park that has a Veterans Day service that's really nice so we are going to take the kids there first, then he's off for a full day of drinking with the other Vets. Normally he doesn't go to the legion, but he always goes on Veterans Day, it's kind of turned into a tradition.

my favorite song is "arlington" by trace adkins..makes me bawl my eyes out but i love it

Please thank your husband for my freedom he fought for (and I thank you, too, for your sacrifice). :loveyou:

Hi, m :seeya:

I miss all the fun we use to have, but things always change (life is change). :sigh: People find other things to do at night when the trials end or could be busy with other things. The Sidebar is whatever you/ we make it to be and if no one shows up to post, well, it's crickets in here (I mean, you can only spend so much time talking to yourself :floorlaugh:).

I'm usually here but no one else is. The relatives i wrote about do not include Johns. Amy was only 11 when so much happened to her dad. She would play multiple choice games with him and he'd answer with his eyes. His brain was wide open except brain STEM. anyway johns sister usually invites us but she just bought a pit bull so everyone is afraid. Its hard with one used to the family but this case is a no no. Amy says she sees enough at work. We should all make plans to meet here Friday or Sat. night.LOL:loveyou: P.S. I love to hear crickets. :floorlaugh:

Hi Molly, tell your husband I too thank him from the bottom of my heart. I am so glad he has you and the kids. I think it helps a Vet when they have close loved ones. I printed pictures last night of Grandvillers France. My Dad died there in '44. Thanks to an older Frenchman some of us have pictures of where they were. You take good care of him , he's been through a lot. :loveyou: gramma nore.

i'm sending up prayers of thanks to your father, and to your family for experiencing the ultimate sacrifice. god bless you and yours, and god bless the USA!

we may not be perfect, but we are the greatest country in the world in my humble opinion :)

What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving? :turkey:

I'm cooking.
I'm making a turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, brussel sprouts with bacon/garlic, green beans, rolls, and pumpkin pie.
All sure to make us fat (and have plenty of left overs) :floorlaugh:

hi quester! hopefully i can answer your questions:

1. at this point they are still planning on going forward with retrying the penalty phase. no date has been set (surprise surprise). there was a settlement conference but according to the media nothing really came of it.

2. cmja did write a long letter to Judge Stephens detailing why she wants to give nurmi the boot. they had a hearing about this on friday and it was just reported that JSS denied her motion to fire nurmi. i think i remember reading JSS scheduled a few more dates for pre trial conferences and stuff.

3. i think the only things that will happen until next year with this case are hearings and conferences in regards to the retrial, or maybe another settlement conference. there's no way the retrial will start until the next calendar year. it's really a shame. i feel so bad for the alexander's'

bbm

Is there a copy of this letter anywhere? Do we have any detail on what she wrote or why she wants to fire them?

TIA.

Eh, don't see how these new changes will help. First of all, 6 hours of morning express with Robin Meade is TOO MUCH. I don't watch that part b/c they never go into any cases, which is the main reason I watch HLN. Secondly, I don't like the idea of rotating anchors for News Now....I like Mike Galanos!! I wish they would have him on MORE. He is the only one who keeps it interesting and is fun to watch. The other ladies are, sorry, but boring and lose my interest. And what's "What would you Do?"

Hi Niner, maybe Tricia cant get ahold of her.

She is going to try and get a hold of her today. She's been busy, but said she'd try today! Will keep everyone posted!!

What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving? :turkey:

Looks like this year we (Huz & I) will be traveling 2 hours south to his nephew's house and celebrate with his family, since we'll be leaving the U.S. early next year! But it's usually just me and the Huz - We buy a turkey breast and cooks all the other fixings! LOVE his gravy! My Huz is such an excellent cook!

And Molly please Thank your Husband for his service; and all the other people's fathers and grandfathers who have served! I love "God Bless the U.S.A." too! And Kate Smith singing "God Bless America", have that one on my CD that the Huz burned for me.

Hoping to hear from Tricia soon!! :seeya:

Sorry, another question from the ignorant Brit! How is it that she can tweet from her prison cell? In the UK prisoners aren't allowed to update social media.

She's not tweeting directly. She's passing info to someone and they are tweeting for her. The same with her "bookclub" , "blog", and the selling of her "art". :banghead:

I love Mike Galanos! But I'll admit that I have a tiny crush on Robin Meade :blushing:

So I'm officially one month smoke-free today!! Woohoo! Anyone who has quit or tried to quit knows how huge this is...I feel like I've earned the right to brag a little. :)

Good for you!

How long have you been smoking?

How are you feeling since your hospital stay?
And how's the job hunting going?

Hi from AU. Been following this case but encountered a looooong wait between the hung jury and now. Any news about the final hearing yet?

thats amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im so proud of you, thats a huge accomplishment! my husband had to quit cold turkey when he went for his special military training this past summer. i told him he should keep it up and not start up again when he gets home since he was 11 weeks smoke free. whats the first thing he does when we leave the base, stops at the gas station and gets his cigs, i could have screamed!!!! i'm very proud of you, keep up the good work!! maybe getting sick was a blessing in disguise bc you basically had to quit during that time. either way, keep up the good work :)
