It's a good time to jump in--just before the retrial of the penalty phase. :seeya: Good to see you here. This trial has been so addictive, but I've learned so much about trials, especially in AZ.

Have you seen AZlawyer's posts? They are very helpful.

I'm watching a 48 hours on ID show now, and Juan is the prosecutor! Bryan Stewart/Rick Valenti. The perp is smooth, at the beginning of the show I believed him, 'till I found out about all the name changes and wives/girlfriends and kids he's left behind. He also lied about attending college at University of Michigan.

ME TOO! Gettin my Juan fix!

Oh, and he's not the "pitbull" people make him out to be with every witness- he was very polite, deferential with the victim's mother.

Guilty! Without a body.

They must have. It was 2011. Got the Guilty verdict in 4 hours.
Found it: Bryan Stewart, a.k.a. "Rick Valentini," was in Maricopa County Superior Court this morning where he was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the presumed murder of his ex-girlfriend Jamie Laiaddee.

Laiddee's body was never found, but while Stewart was in police custody, he was heard telling other inmates that he disposed of her body in a way that police would never find it (at one point, Stewart claimed he fed her body to pigs. More on that below).

In addition to the 22 years for the murder, Stewart was sentenced yesterday to 32 years in prison for other crimes related to the murder -- he got 20 years on fraud scheme charges and 12 years for fraud and weapons charges. http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2011/12/bryan_stewart_aka_rick_valenti_1.php

What a welcoming bunch of folks! Thank you.
I didn't discover WS until after the trial ended but since have read through every sidebar and the various timelines and "dailies".........all of which were great reading.
During the trial I participated with several former colleagues as we exchanged hundreds of emails and instant chats. We weren't the super sleuths as you folks have demonstrated; we were more amateur and all of us trial watching virgins. Our "forum" allowed lots of name calling, openly derisive remarks about everything defense related, a fair amount of cussing, sexual innuendo and aggressive shaming. Our many shared years of friendship allowed us this freedom, knowing we weren't offending anyone, having a shared point of view for the most part, and knowing that each of us were far better than the online personas we had adopted!
Needless to say, finding WS several months ago was a great discovery. It's nice to have so much trial discussion rather than trial reaction, and it's good to have this safe place where there is no shaming, foul language or victim blaming (not that we ever, ever did any victim blaming or trashing......just to be clear.)
Looking forward to the discussions moving forward!

ATL,
What time do we need to be there tonight? EST time.

:seeya: Morning, Y'all !

Anything on today's agenda ?

If not, when will this re-trial get moving ?

TIA !
