FWIW - North Florida and North Central Florida, including Putnam County, is often described as being more like South Georgia. [See Pork Chop Gang on wikipedia or google for a general idea about this.]

Five generations from the Miami area would not be considered "southen", imo.

But I digress from the topic at hand.

I have never been able to pin down the address that Teresa gave on the police report that night, nor have I been able to confirm her employment at Alachua County Sheriff's Office on that date. Has anyone else been able to do so?

We still call each other Miss First Name here and age isn't the indicator of when it is used. We also say Mr. First Name. It is less familiar that using the first name alone but not as formal as Mrs., Miss or Mr. Last Name. It isn't a big deal.

I really hate disagreeing with you, Patty G, because you are one person on here that I appreciate greatly.

I was born and raised and have spent my entire life in the same area as Teresa. As children, some of my friends would call their parents' friends and their friends' mothers "Mz. Susan". My own children called their pre-K teachers "Mz. Cindy". Generally speaking though, younger ones address older ones as Ms. Jones or by their first name. Same for older ones.

Rarely, if ever have I heard an almost 60 yr old woman address a younger woman that way. Not not, now when Teresa and I were growing up. [No, we didn't know each other then.]

We all recall Mz. Lillian, mother of our President, but it's not very commonly used around here in my own experience. I'm not sure, and I could be way off about this, but I think the whole Mz./Mr. FirstName was a holdover from our regrettable past of slavery, segregation, etc. IIRC, our schools were integrated when Teresa was in elementary school. [Well, mine was.]

That Mz. Nancy thing is sticking in so many craws because it just doesn't sound right. Not in the North, the MidWest, the West. or even the South.
And I have to disagree. Having deep Southern roots, we were taught to call a woman Miss ______. There are some we still call Miss ______ to this very day. I have heard a 98 year old woman address them as such. It is a matter of how you were raised and not how old you are or where you are from exactly. It is a term of endearment and respect. It sure doesn't "stick in my craw".

I wasn't going to weigh in but you made me :) Yes, it's what a younger person calls an older person to avoid the familiarity of just "L" but soften the formality of "Ms Florida". Courtesy in the south is very ritualized and in many ways reflects the caste system we still live under in some places. It is something we pride ourselves on, southern hospitality, although it can be as fake as can be.

To hear an older person address a younger person as Miss Nancy is just strange and wrong to my ears and it jolted me. If Nancy called her Ms Neves ahe should call her Ms Grace in return but the Ms Nancy came across as a deliberate attempt at ingratiation. And it probably was just that.

I would like to know if Mark N (love his name!) is still spokesman or whatever for Theresa.

The only MIZ I care about here is Miz Truth...she seems to be missing, along with Haleigh.

Is it safe to assume everyone that lives in the San Francisco area is a GAY liberal? I do not think so. So to make assumptions about people because where they live or act...is irrevelant.
 Are you sure everyone in San Fran is not a GAY liberal?! LMAO (Just Kidding! Please no emails from straight Conservatives who live in San Fran.)

You are very correct not to make those assumptions. I was raised very "Southern". Our roots often stem from other places and our values, norms, and terminology reflect it.

This is a real question, not an attempt at sarcasm or smarty pants-ness.

Where are you and Seriously? [You don't need to be specific, just wondering about the general state and area and size of town.]

I have to disagree with this, but will also state I love your posts, so its nothing personal. Miss Nancy is addressing Nancy with respect. I have taught my children to do this, whether their elder is black, white, or purple. [I guess its your opinion, but I know its a form of respect, nothing to do with integration.

Well shoot, and here I was thinking the problem is there are too many miztruths hanging about.

I'm not sure how you can make someone talk. I also don't know why people would think they haven't been asking Misty all along what may have happened, and trying to think of ways for her to remember what happened if she knows anything.

Well, quite frankly, RonC makes me think they haven't been questioning Misty and her inconsistencies. I'm sure they have questioned her, but what about the inconsistencies? They just accept them and say on a national program that they have asked her and she hasn't been inconsistent, when we know she has? That is strange in itself IMO.

Oklahoma, but was raised with my grandmother from the deep south living in the same house. The size of the city or town has nothing to do with it. The area has nothing to do with it. Money doesn't either. ;) So before you go there...please don't.

If someone is purple, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be addressing THEM, I'd be calling for an ambulance!!!

Cripes, it was a real question. I don't know if my own experience is unusual for "The South." That's why I asked about the size of your towns. I don't know what it's like in Orlando or Miami or Atlanta, or hardly any where else.

[Where wuz I going? btw]

Please, do not assume my questions or comments are necessarily attacks on your own points of view.

Just sayin'.

Do you think they should broadcast all of their thoughts and possible suspicions to the viewing public, which of course would include Misty?

If they are repeatedly questioning her and trying to make sense of her inconsistencies she must know that they suspect something in her story doesn't click even if they say to NG that they trust her completely.

Jmo, I don't think so. I think they would be asking her and trying to see if there could be something she has blocked out or forgotten. I don't think means they suspect her of anything, and if they do, I don't believe they would broadcast it.
