@DavidMuir
: "The president said he has no intelligence that the Americans have not been able to get [to the Kabul airport]. The question, obviously—does that square with reporting on ground?"
@IanPannell
: "I mean—just totally not." Read more: http://abcn.ws/3xZtTEx

Watch the video interview at the link in the tweet. Ian Pannell, also of ABC news, on the ground in Kabul uses the word "breathtaking" to describe what Biden said about American's ability to get to the airport.

Things that make you go....Hmmmm
As the world crashes in Afghanistan
Per this stranded US citizen in Afghanistan, the State Department sent out BLANK VISAS !!!
to all US Citizens, SIV's . Do you think they were copied and passed out to anyone? This guy thinks so, and questions that decision. No wonder the airport and surrounding area is over run with people! They all think they have a VISA!

IS threat forces US changes to evacuations at Kabul airport

Potential Islamic State threats against Americans in Afghanistan are forcing the U.S. military to develop new ways to get evacuees to the airport in Kabul, a senior U.S. official said Saturday, adding a new complication to the already chaotic efforts to get people out of the country after its swift fall to the Taliban.

The official said that small groups of Americans and possibly other civilians will be given specific instructions on what to do, including movement to transit points where they can be gathered up by the military. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.

Very little discussion in this thread which I'm surprised about. But imo it's so complex it's hard to talk about. But I would welcome people's opinion.
It's just tragic. Had progress been made in Afghanistan and now that just disappears? That's so sad.
I know very little about this whole situation but the thing that has surprised me is it seems we are talking about politics and not terrorists. I think i thought the taliban were a terrorist organisation but it seems like a political party now....
Can anyone shed any light,in understandable terms, its really hard to grasp what is going on apart from its awful.

Absolute desperate action crazy plan?
Disperse and separate the people who have the correct documents from the ones just gathering there, by using a distraction technique.
Seriously, toss money (whatever currency they use there) into the crowds away from the so-called Gates of Hell, making room for legitimate evacuees, imo.

WARMINGTON: Afghans caught behind enemy lines reminiscent of Dunkirk | Toronto Sun
''The scenes from Kabul look like a modern-day Dunkirk.
''While there are thousands caught behind enemy lines and under fire, the difference in Afghanistan is that this is not on water and these are not trained military soldiers.
These are moms, dad and children — many of whom are babies.

It’s a war zone there that is becoming worse by the hour. Bullets flying, crowds of people ducking for cover, mass confusion and pure terror. It’s as ugly as ugly can get.''

“It’s so dangerous here,” said one of our interpreters, who is there hoping to link up with a Canadian special forces unit to be pulled inside the airfield to board a plane out of there.''

''The British and French, and reportedly Canadians, have been going outside the wire and pulling people in. But there’s great debate over the strategy on the ground there.

“There is no Canadian forces here,” another interpreter told me. “And I want to get close to the gate but (Taliban) don’t let us get to. They are firing and beating people.''

''Canadian authorities are working around the clock trying to solve this horrific mess, but it appears to be so wide-ranging in scope that there are no quick solutions.

There have been plans and discussions about scooping people from outside the wall and getting them inside the wall, but there have not been many stories of success with this strategy.''
