I just read that the Taliban have taken over the building next door to Nowzad Rescue. Nowzad has 98 dogs, 89 cats, still there. They are being cared for by 25 amazing staff members who have refused to leave the animals. My thoughts are with all the decent people of Afghanistan.

"Followers of the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence in Sunni Islam, mainly found in East Africa and South-East Asia, are taught that dogs are unclean and impure."

"If they touch a dog they must wash the area of contact seven times — the first time with dirt and the remaining six times with water. If the person fails to do so, their prayers are rendered invalid."

read more at ABC Radio:

Why some Muslims will do anything to avoid touching a dog

Yes. I was just about to post this. Spoke to my son he said for this reason he has never seen a Muslim dog handler so most likely working dogs were not left behind.

It was awesome when a high level terrorist was chased down and cornered by a military dog, given what they think of dogs. The terrorist blew himself up and the dog survived.

Afghanistan latest news as Taliban forces take control: Live updates
NATO suspends all support to Afghan government: "There is no Afghan government for NATO to support"

From CNN's Nina Avramova

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during a press briefing Tuesday that the body is no longer providing support to the now collapsed Afghan government following the Taliban's takeover of the country.

“We have, of course, suspended all support — financial and other kinds of support — to the Afghan government because there is no Afghan government for NATO to support,” Stoltenberg said.
“No money is transferred no support is provided to Kabul after the collapse of the government,” added Stoltenberg.''

Flights resume from Kabul airport as people scramble to leave Afghanistan

“The situation is stabilizing but obviously we are monitoring it very carefully,” U.K. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab told Sky News on Tuesday.

Raab said there were 600 extra personnel there among a surge of U.K. and U.S. troops sent in to ensure the evacuation of diplomatic staff. He also said Afghans who had helped U.K. forces were being evacuated as well.

The U.K. evacuated 150 British nationals on Sunday as well as “289 of those Afghan nationals who have served the U.K. so loyally in Afghanistan,” over the last week, he said, adding that he expected over the next 24 hours “to have 350 more British nationals and Afghan nationals who have worked for us coming out.”

Germany, which fielded the second-largest military presence in Afghanistan after the U.S., said it aims to evacuate thousands of German-Afghan dual nationals and lawyers, activists and individuals who worked with NATO forces.

However, the first German evacuation plane managed to take off with only seven people, due to the chaos on the ground, its government said Tuesday. The transport plane performed a “breakneck landing” on Monday night, but had to take off with so few people on board because it could not spend much longer on the runway and the Germans trying to evacuate couldn’t reach the airport without protection from military personnel.

U.S. troops have secured the military side of the airport, where the U.S. Embassy staff and operations were relocated on Sunday. It’s unclear how many American citizens remain in Afghanistan, but some lawmakers in Washington say they have received hundreds of calls amid lack of clarity from the State Department.

Does anyone know how they are making sure that the people we airlift out of there don’t have a terrorist among them? It would be disastrous if even one Taliban was able to board a flight with some type of explosive or other weapon.

I saw in the daily Mail article that had a big picture of an American soldier pointing his weapon what they called a “passenger”. The caption was designed to make the soldier look cruel and heartless but I’m sure that there was a good reason.

I keep thinking of the scene of all of those desperate people running along and climbing on the plane. I realize that they can screen people inside the airport but an armed terrorist could blend right in to the ones who are jumping over the walls and dashing across the tarmac out of desperation. MOO

What I don't understand troops are being flown into the airport but very few have flown out with evacuees. I know the airport was shut down for a day. We have seen the sizes of these military planes. They are made to carry tremendous amount of weight. Why are more people not being flown out?

All those people who ran into that c-17 were unvetted citizens. They were not the US interpreters that helped us. Rather than remove them the plane took off anyways. If you look at the picture they are mostly military aged men who are cowardly fleeing. And how many are Taliban?

From the attachment, if my math is correct ;).., the number given for US citizens evacuated on 8/16 was 165....out of 7-800! That is a plane load of questionably undocumented, un vaxed and unmasked people, while less than 25% are US citizens.
The last I heard, the taliban was still present at the airport, and had guns pointed at people. This number is not a positive number, IMO. Smoke and mirrors. Where are all the US citizens waiting for rescue ?

From CNN and the Pentagon spokesman, 5,000-10,000 Americans there.

I saw elsewhere they were searched and ran through metal detectors before being allowed to board. No weapons allowed at all on the planes.

Imo, fwiw.
It seems to me that the women and children are the ones who will suffer the most when all the men either leave or are killed.
My fantasy would be for a big old plane to scoop up all the women and children (it looked like it was mostly men at the airport trying to get on the planes) and take them to safety.
The sight of all females and children boarding the planes would make a strong visual statement to the Taliban and the world.
To top off my little fantasy- the resulting exodus of females will not only increase their social value, but ultimately decrease the reproduction of future Taliban.

''The Taliban vowed Tuesday to respect women's rights, forgive those who resisted them and ensure a secure Afghanistan as part of a publicity blitz aimed at convincing world powers and a fearful population that they have changed.''

Older generations remember the Taliban's ultraconservative Islamic views, which included severe restrictions on women as well as public stonings and amputations before they were ousted by the U.S-led invasion following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.''

''Mujahid, who had been a shadowy figure for years, promised the Taliban would honour women's rights, but within the norms of Islamic law, though he gave few details.''

Taliban 'rape gangs' draw up list of girls & widows in hunt for sex slaves
''TALIBAN gangs are targeting children as young as 12 as they hunt for sex slaves after conquering Afghanistan.

Chilling reports have emerged as the fighters stormed across the country and seized Kabul at a speed which has stunned the West.''

''Women and girls are believed to be some of the most at risk people under the new Taliban regime - despite their attempts to give off a more modern persona.''
''Taliban warlords reportedly view unmarried - or widowed - women and girls aged 12 to 45 as "qhanimat", spoils of war to be divided amongst their fighters.''

The Taliban says one thing while doing another. They can never be trusted.
