I don't believe that information has been made public. I believe it was a 3rd Precinct patrol officer which would explain the 45 minute response time.

Perhaps LINative can clarify this but at various times Oak Beach has been covered by either the 1st Precinct (my criminal justice professor at SCCC worked this particular sector back in the early 1990s), the 3rd Precinct, or the Marine Bureau.

I asked only because I had a crazy fleeting thought at the time that what if a dirty cop who heard the call go out came upon SG and threw her in the car and killed her. Hmmm crazy I know but it coulda happened. Just a thought. I'm over it all ready...only because SG was already afraid for her life when she made the call. Unless...oh never mind...just Justice thinking outloud again ; ))

NY must have different laws. I live in WI. and anybody can ask for and recieve a police incident report by going down to the courthouse and simply requesting them. The names of the responding officers are on them.

Nope, it can be done in NY, too.

Usually SC Marine, NYS troopers (patrol OP), babylon bay constable.
Yeah your right, I think it's mainly the SCPD Marine Bureau officers who cover the barrier islands plus doing actual boat patrols. For some reason though I could have sworn that it was a 3rd Precinct officer that responded to Shannan Gilbert's 911 call.

Could be. Was it the 3rd or 4th thats in huntington?

The maring guys got trucks. They need to be able to go out on the 4wd access points too.

I didn't think any officer responded to SG's call. I thought the officer (whoever he was) was responding to Coletti's 911 call.

Any and all reports to clarify this would be appreciated :)

I believe you are right, I am going to edit my post as soon as I can confirm from past articles that they responded to GC's call.

I wasent sure whether it was Shannan's call that they responded to or Colletti's as Shannan couldent give them her exact location.

I found myself reading the following news report again last night. I still wonder how this investigation was handled (then and now!).

http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/04/14/new.york.bodies/index.html?hpt=Sbin

But he told CNN it took police more than four months to question him about the incident, an allegation that police deny.
Coletti later told CNN that he believes the woman he saw that night was Gilbert.
CNN can not independently verify that claim.
"I have no idea when the detective spoke to whomever you are talking about," Dormer told CNN. "If you want to see somebody after this press conference we'll certainly follow up on that."
Police later clarified that they spoke with Coletti on May 1 after he made the 911 call and several times since.
Pressed for the dates of the police department's conversations with Coletti and the length of time between them, they revealed that they obtained a statement from Coletti in June but provided no further specifics.
"They never got a statement from me in June," Coletti told CNN."

None of it makes sense. If I call 911 and don't speak with an officer when they arrive, there's a much bigger problem.

Just to clarify, when the bigger story broke (GB4) the media stated that the Marine Bureau officer responded to Oak Beach on May 1, 2010. It has since been stated that SCPD had dogs and a helicopter there to look for Shannan. But, there has never been any "official" documents or notes released publicly in order to back up either of those claims.

If you scroll back to May 1, 2010, there's no reports of any kind. That's what makes me question if any investigation was performed at all.

This leads to another question. How, if the helicopter used it's thermal imaging sensors (which I believe all SCPD choppers are fitted with) did they miss Shannan Gilbert if she was apparently in that boggy marsh?

Now suppose she was dead at the time the chopper did it's flyover. How long after death would the body retain enough heat to be picked up by thermal imaging?

The SCPD does not dispatch a helicopter when they get a call about someone knocking on doors looking for help. Any search by dogs or a helicopter would have come after SG was reported missing and 2+2 was put together regarding her and GC's/BB's 911 calls.

Okay, here's what we put together early on in terms of working names and ads with pics of the girls. Mel, feel free to correct any errors you know of.

Melissa~ Shadowwraiths was able to find one ad for Melissa under the name Chloe. It was advertized as BDSM/roleplay, and mentioned that Chloe was available for car dates.

Megan~ Lexy, Lexi, Tiffany, Jasmine. A few interesting things with respect to the ads we dug up for Megan: the day of her disappearance she (or someone) had posted an for under the name Lexi through Major Escort Service Agency. Many of the ads listed the location as Suffolk, and one on Sept.2, 2009 (8 months prior to her disappearance) listed her location as Hauppauge/Smithtown.

Maureen~ Mari. But we were never able to find any ads for her, since we didn't know her working name until Mel provided it.

Amber~ Carolina. We were able to to track down 4 ads with pics. There were only 2 numbers used on these ads. One number tracked to within 2 miles of NYPA Bus Terminal, the other tracked to within 2 miles of Massapequa. That's interesting in light of the fact that Maureen's last call was from The Bus Terminal, and I believe Melissa's phone pings were traced to Massapequa.

(I think that's all I have.)

By any chance, does anyone have screenshots or saved images of the ads that were found?

TheForeigner originally posted them....maybe PM...sorry I can't remember which thread it was.

I did have them, but I had a computer crash back in 2012 (?), lost everything. Files, screenshots, complex maps...I could have cried. Couldn't even recover anything from the hard drive. Several of us worked on tracking down the actual ads, though. Shadowraiths, Foreigner, Just K, Fredna...those are the names that come to my mind right off the bat. I assume someone still has them.

ETA: 2+ years after my original post, I am able to make a correction. Maureen never worked under the name Jasmine. That was her friend.
