Regarding the items seized from the home, were they gardening shears- that a hired gardener might use? Or were they more like household scissors? Do we know?
They are hedge shears...the kind you use to keep a privet hedge (Boxy hedge plant with 90-degree angles) trimmed up and neat. Pretty easy task that could be done by the homeowner instead of needing a hired gardener. Me I've been hacking up euonymus by the roots for days with a mattock. Euonymus is a cursed plant with thick woody stems UGH. But these hedge shears are meant for the kind of boxy hedge that does not have woody stems, and is very easy to cut. (Just googled them because I had been picturing loppers, which are for thick woody stems)

Wow, he's done this before.

Sixteen months after he was kidnapped at gunpoint and thrown into the trunk of his car, attorney Kemper Durand watched with some regret last week as two juveniles involved in the case were given prison sentences.

Durand was walking to his car around 2 a.m. on May 25, 2000, after attending a par ty on Beale Street when a lone gunman walked up behind him, took his wallet, and forced him into the trunk. The abductor, Cleotha Abston, drove around and picked up friends then, after about two hours, escorted Durand into a Mapco station to withdraw money from an ATM. A uniformed Memphis Housing Authority officer entered, Durand yelled that he had been kidnapped, and the kidnappers ran away.

On Monday, Abston pled guilty just before he was scheduled to go to trial and was sentenced to 20 years in prison without parole. He had earlier turned down an offer of 15 years on the same charge but, according to Durand, told the court Òhe did not want to sign his name giving himself the time.Ó Abston has a long juvenile record of theft and aggravated assault.

was just coming here to post that - 20 years no parole… did he serve that whole time? If so, seems he didn’t spemd much time before turning around to do it again.

Statement from Memphis Police:

The individual who was detained has been officially charged in connection with the abduction of Eliza Fletcher. At this point in the investigation, Cleotha Abston, 38, has been charged with Especially Aggravated Kidnapping and Tampering with Evidence.

Eliza Fletcher has not been located at this time. MPD Investigators and officers, along with our local and federal partners, continue searching for Mrs. Fletcher.

A second individual, currently not believed to be connected to Fletcher's abduction, was also arrested during this investigation. Mario Abston, 36, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture and Sell Fentanyl, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture and Sell Heroin, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.

This remains to be an active and ongoing investigation.

We continue to ask for assistance from the community. If anyone has any information concerning this investigation, they should call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
And yet I don't expect this to end well for Eliza.

So his previous victim in this case was “thrown” into the trunk at gunpoint.

Terrifying.

Tazer- sure. Stalker? Maybe. I haven't heard of many criminals up at 4:30-5:00 with a strong plan for abducting someone. Furthermore, someone that could put up a fight or a solid chance of running away.

Follow the money...

I agree with much of this post---but have to disagree about criminals not being up at 4:30 or 5 to abduct others.

I have seen many cases on this forum where rapists and predators were out and about just before dawn. It is a very dangerous time of morning, imo.
