At some point, Cummins reportedly admitted to disabling the GPS on his car and replacing his license plate with one from Alabama.

After leaving Decatur, they travelled to Birmingham and started heading west to Mississippi, staying in Mississippi for at least one night before heading northwest to Oklahoma. While there, they were caught on surveillance at two different Walmart stores.

From Oklahoma, Cummins and Thomas headed to Colorado where they began using aliases. The FBI agent says they presented themselves as John and Joann Castro, ages 40 and 24 respectively, a married couple. Cummins reportedly chose a Hispanic last name since their ultimate destination was Mexico.

I feel like I'm going to be saying this a lot about TC but WHAT AN IDIOT! Did he really think they'd "blend in" in Mexico?!

Castro surname history, for those interested: https://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=castro

Probably at a California Walmart then... I noticed they even sell inflatable kayaks.

A poster suggested early on that Walmart should post the AA in all of their stores and/or alert their employees. I'm not sure if that would have helped, but we're up to 4 known Walmarts, now, and at one more possible in CA.

Subtract the price of the tablet and the price of the kayak from the trip budget, and I am beginning to understand why he was down to his last $3.

Missed his family.... RIIIIIGHT. He was broke and desperate and wanted his mommy. IMHO.

:cow:

They argued that since all of his family and friends are in Middle Tennessee, he would have no reason to leave. :rolling:

The judge heard testimony from two people. The fist was a U.S. witness who testified in detail to the progressions of Cummins' trip with the 15-year-old student.

Cummins' attorney called the second witness - his sister Daphne Quinn, who testified that if Cummins was released he would live with his parents in Mount Pleasant.

The "tablet" was an ipad!
He HAD to have an ipad, not a $75 generic one!

"Agent Noble says one of the items Cummins purchased was an iPad in order to stay up to date with news about the case and know what was being reported."

Castro! Eek.
I can follow his path of thinking with that name though.
Abducts girls=Ariel Castro.
Every detail that comes out makes my skin crawl even more.
Ugh.

From my link above

After leaving San Diego, they drove about 150 miles west to Slab City, a commune in the Sonoran Desert. It’s not known how long they stayed before they began travelling north.

This is a really interesting place and if one has time do some more research. I also believe there is a documentry titled "Living without Laws" (among others) that may have captured his attention. I don't know.

Cummins reportedly told the FBI that while testing the kayak, he ran into a law enforcement officer who gave them tips about the boat. He and Thomas were out on the water when that same officer came out to warn them the water was rough. Cummins assumed they’d been found out and became scared, sleeping with his gun beside him from then on out, the FBI agent said.

Which means he was ready to shoot anyone who tried to stop him. I laugh about the idiot, but this guy is dangerous AF.

Wow, no wonder they ran out of money. So he wastes several hundred dollars on a freaking iPad and then later ET has to eat FLOWERS to survive? As if I couldn't be more mad at TC. UGH.

I wonder why they stopped in Miss. the first night? They could have driven a lot further West.

Sadly I can think of one sick reason.

Everything coming out shows how immature and manipulated ET really was. A grown woman would have questioned this brilliant plan before leaving her life. How exactly did he plan to support the two of them? An adult would have questioned how on earth a fat 50 year old with no discernible skills was planning to make enough money to support their beach vacation. Manual labor? Less than minimum wage doesn't get you much of a beach cottage.

I thought of that reason too. Seems like TC would have wanted to put as much distance between TN/AL than Miss.
