AMBER Alert – Summer Wells

This is the FAQ from the TBI. It was last updated December 15, 2021. The red truck (a 1998-2000 Toyota Tacoma) is mentioned on this as still being potential evidence. I think if they had completely disregarded it, they would have updated the FAQ.

However, the person who owns this red truck, the old Toyota Tacoma is not going to come forward (imo). LE, as far as i know, has never publicly claimed to have found the red truck.

DW has talked about the red truck (Toyota Tacoma) found without plates in another state. I don't know details such as found by whom? He also says he encountered a red truck (Toyota Tacoma) in his driveway some time before SW went missing. Exactly when, idk. But, neighbors had called LE, so there should be a record of this.

No idea where if the Toyota Tacoma (s) talked about by DW are the same truck or if it/they are the one the witness saw.

Ronnie Lawson said in a video in late 2021, the truck came from a witness who drives through the area frequently for business. He is considered a reliable witness.

I know it seems LE isn't investigating, but i believe they are. Both the HCSO and the TBI. And possibly the FBI as they were called in... I think they should since Rogersville is very close to Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia. There are two interstates nearby.

The problem with this case is the last people (as far as we know) with SW have really not provided anything useful. They went to Kingsport, wasted some time, did some errands. Then came home and did some chores. Then SW was gone. If you go by that, then she should have been in the basement playing since she was being closely supervised.

Thus, there is something wrong with that, i don't know what. We've maybed every piece of it we can. Apparently no one who was close to SW has any more information (and I acknowledge they really might not because how could they know everything was about to become super important) and there aren't a ton of clues lying around.

That's the problem. Just DW's property is 11 acres. Much more than that was searched, but SW is so tiny compared to 11 acres mostly heavily wooded rough terrain.

I am losing heart that this will remain unsolved unless someone stumbles over her while doing some other activity or someone (idk who) confesses.

I have literally stopped watching videos on this case. I made an exception for John Kelly because he hasn't been spamming videos on this case. But, really nothing new unless a person just found out about the case recently.

The conclusion I came to was no one knows anything other than the TBI FAQ.

Being from Tennessee, i will say, it is kind of normal to me that LE isn't talking about the case any more than absolutely necessary. I have seen cases in my life that looked like they were forgotten about then suddenly there's an arrest and they have boxes of evidence they never mentioned until the trial.

Florida (a.k.a. Gabby and Brian) seems to have a law that requires a lot more transparency. This is why the "Florida Man" stories are a thing.

I guess it varies state by state. It's frustrating because I want them to hurry and find Summer.

Yes, IF Summer is on the property it may be years if ever before she's found since CB doesn't walk on the property because she's afraid of snakes, bears and coyotes. And DW believes whoever took Summer took her away from the area. If they ever sell their land then maybe a surveyor would walk it but it doesn't seem like the parents believe it's worth searching at this point. I'd agree except Summer is so very tiny and could easily be missed wherever she is.

<modsnip>

Also, I keep thinking about the dogs losing Summer's scent. IIRC and I'm trying to find the link, at some point one of the searchers (maybe Tim Coup?) said they had trouble getting an isolated scent for the dogs to follow since Summer's scent was so intermingled with others. As far as I know that's never been verified or refuted. Could that have impacted the search? SAR members?

Additional info from earlier reports. So many resources were and still are poured into the search for Summer. Unbelievable that LE doesn't yet have a clear direction to look in.

Missing Summer Wells' dad: 'Good chance she's already dead'

The red truck has morphed into red trucks which IMO has really gotten muddied <modsnip>. Remember the story about the messy-haired woman hunched down in a red truck at the bottom of the Wells' driveway? Yikes. I wish local reporters would pursue some of these stories and get LE to either verify of refute what's being said.

July 28, 2021:
Both parents have brought up the red or maroon, 1998-2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup, whose owner law enforcement was seeking to question as a witness.

“We really need help finding this red pickup truck with ladder rack,” Wells posted on Facebook July 8. “Not sure of make maybe Toyota. Not the one pictured but something like it. I just found out that it was parked at the bottom of our driveway around the time of Summer’s disappearance. Please help us locate this truck..it did have buckets in the back.”

Candus mentioned the truck 10 days later in the interview with the Review.

“A $50,000 reward for any information about that red truck or who drove it or whatever, you’d think that person would have dropped like a drop of a hat and jumped on that,” she said.

“They found one truck over on 81 and 36 or something like that and the license plate was removed. So, they ran the VIN and it come back to 101 Ben Hill. There’s not even a 101 Ben Hill down here. So, they wrote that off as pretty much a lost case because they didn’t run into nothing. They didn’t track down nobody or nothing, I guess,” Candus said.

“And there was another truck that they found alongside the road with ladder racks on it and it wasn’t the truck, they said. Half the time they told me it was a Nissan, half the time they told me Toyota. I don’t know what this truck is. Who witnessed the truck? I don’t know that, either. No clue. I keep telling people I wish I knew what happened,” Candus said.

DW's property has been searched. I think quite a few times by various LE agencies and search groups. They've searched literally miles for SW, but i am just thinking, even if she was on their land (i don't necessarily think she is), the size of it versus the size of her is so immense.

As far as i know, DW has always allowed LE and groups sent by LE to search his land and various things on the land.

ETA: LE sent out a large group to search immediately the area SW could have wandered to and asked neighbors to search.

It's been so long ago now, it's hard to remember that at first a lot of people thought she really would be found fairly quickly. I thought so.

This is a video / article interview DW did with WJHL about the "protesters" disrupting his work. At the end, the subject turns to the TBI investigation, and I thought that the following was particularly interesting.

“I can call TBI at any time and talk to them. But I’m sure if they had anything they would call me right away. I mean, they assure me when I call them that they’re still working on the case. They’re doing everything they can. They’re still checking into things and I even hear from people time to time where TBI just contacted them because their cell phone happened to ping in the area. So I know that they’re still working, and they’re still looking into things,” he said.

From time to time someone asks if LE was able to get a warrant to identify the pings coming into the area, and there seemed to be a difference of opinion on that, but this seems to be evidence that they did.

Notice who gave them the quote though. <modsnip>

TN and AR are similar in this regard. You can ask the Arkansas State Police (ASP) about active investigations, but you're only getting a canned answer if at all.

Why would anyone protest DW's job site? What does that accomplish?

ETA: DW or CB or CH can probably call the TBI and ask about SW's investigation. And someone would probably talk to them. But, they're not going to get that much information (eta jmo). So, even though I can understand people who say they'd call every day, i can understand if they don't. It would be hard to deal with the same answer every day even if the person giving to you was really polite about it.

I find the mention of individuals being contacted because their cell phone happened to ping in the area interesting. It reminded me of the quote below.

The TBI also stated they have executed multiple search warrants and have collected “potential digital evidence.”

TBI: Search warrants executed, 'potential digital evidence' collected in Search for Summer Wells

Hopefully they are getting close to determining if the potential evidence is of value.

Having access to both a vehicle with starlink very similar to the Subaru DW took to work the day Summer disappeared, as well as the area of interest and route of travel DW might have traveled that day, I have thought for quite awhile that LE must have at least been able to verify his driving recall of that day. It's just not that difficult to pull the pings off of 6-10 towers, and after a certain point there are very limited ways to and from the residence in and out of the immediate area. Not trying to over simplify, but if LE had not been able to verify DW's recall of his travel pattern in the Subaru that day...don't ya'll think we would have seen quite a lot more movement (in that area of interest anyway?) Not trying to prove or disprove anyones participation or not in Summer's disappearance. Just thinking out loud about the process of elimination and how digital evidence can play into that.

I wonder about the other electronic devices, gathered like TVs. Then the camera/s TBI iirc mentioned getting a search warrant for,as they were not voluntary given. Lots going on behind the scenes. So grateful for Leslie Erhart I hadn't realized until recently she worked the Evelyn Boswell case. MOO

Does anyone know what Summer was wearing???????????? Iirc it's been reported as two different things. Pink shirt gray pants, then it was the pink jogging suit for school.

There is a still from a brief video that shows the outfit that was "for school". However, she was reported missing wearing gray shorts and a pink top.

Apparently, she wore 3-4 outfits that day. Those two, plus the bathing suit. H says she was wearing a purple shorts set. But, there are pinks and purples that are close enough together that different people call them different things. So, idk.

Idk where the "school outfit" went after she wore it. Maybe into the laundry? Idk.

I always heard shorts, not pants. But, her missing poster says pants.

Here is a thought, could SW change her own clothes? I mean, at home. Because she was at home and briefly alone before she disappeared.

While I don't necessarily think she changed clothes again... She might have if that was something she could do.

ETA: i just wonder if some basic information we have is wrong. If SW, for some reason, changed clothes. However, in that small house, i guess they would have figured that out by now.
