There are some pretty disturbing gifs on Twitter of the explosions under the #Istanbul hashtag . :(

At the time of the attack, 10 flights were airborne heading to U.S. destinations from Ataturk Airport, all of them Turkish Airlines flights. A senior U.S. official told ABC News that the flights will be isolated and searched once they land, after which they will be allowed to proceed to their gates.

The first flight to land on U.S. soil arrived at New York's JFK Airport at 5:30 p.m. without incident. Another flight is scheduled for a 10:15 p.m. arrival. Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Washington and San Francisco are all scheduled to have flights from Istanbul arriving tonight

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced added patrols with tactical weapons and equipment at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports. The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, along with local law enforcement, is coordinating security efforts with the agency.

CNN: Turkish PM reports 136 dead. 147 wounded.

Think I'll take a break from the madness. Prayers for the families of those killed or injured in the blasts.

Rbbm. Taxis were also used by the Brussels terrorists, still thinking that cab drivers might actually be the first line of defense, imo.

Hi DOtr

just endless

It seems good ,almost internationally, that the responders have learned to just get people and go to hospital as oppossed to waiting for ambulances in the beginning

Western countries really need to start a huge SM campaign outlining the realities of going over their for training - like huge if it could be like USA Germany France Britian were all just sitting around while they get better and better at propaganda. Enough already do something other than dropping bombs. we see how good that is working.

Their recruitment is obviouly working interupt that with counter propaganda moo

"The attack, which took place during the holy month of Ramadan, shows that terrorism strikes with no regard for faith and values," he said in a statement.

"The bombs that exploded in Istanbul today could have gone off at any airport in any city around the world," he said, urging all governments to join forces against terrorism.

Speaking in parliament earlier, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said initial reports suggested one attacker had initially opened fire with a Kalashnikov then detonated explosives.

yesterdays warning

pretty darn specific IMO!

he U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey. This replaces the Travel Warning dated March 29, 2016.

Foreign and U.S. tourists have been explicitly targeted by international and indigenous terrorist organizations. As stated in the Worldwide Caution dated March 3, 2016, throughout Europe extremists have targeted large sporting events, theatres, open markets, aviation services, transportation systems, and public venues where people congregate as well as religious sites and high-profile events. U.S. citizens are reminded to review personal security plans and remain vigilant at all times. U.S. Government personnel in Turkey remain subject to travel restrictions in the southeastern provinces of Hatay, Kilis, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Sirnak, Diyarbakir, Van, Siirt, Mus, Mardin, Batman, Bingol, Tunceli, Hakkari, Bitlis, and Elazig. U.S. citizens should avoid areas in close proximity to the Syrian border.

The Department of State extended its March 29, 2016 ordered departure of family members of U.S. Government personnel posted to the U.S. Consulate in Adana and family members of U.S. Government civilians in Izmir province through July 26, 2016. The Department of State terminated its March 29, 2016 ordered departure declaration for Mugla province. The U.S. Consulate in Adana remains open and will continue to provide all routine consular services.

For your safety:

 • Avoid travel to southeastern Turkey, particularly near the Syrian border.
 • Stay away from large crowds, including at popular tourist destinations.
 • Exercise heightened vigilance and caution when visiting public access areas, especially those heavily frequented by tourists.
 • Stay away from political gatherings and rallies.
 • Follow the instructions of local authorities in an emergency.
 • Stay at hotels with identifiable security measures in place.
 • Monitor local media.

U.S.-Turkish friendship dates to 1831, when the United States established diplomatic relations with the Ottoman Empire.
