Mauricio Garcia, who killed 8 people outside of Allen Premium Outlets, was reportedly wearing a "Right Wing Death Squad" patch. The phrase is popular among neo-Nazis and other extremist groups

Right Wing Death Squad" is also big among the Proud Boys, who are led by an Afro-Cuban guy named Enrique Tarrio.

Right Wing Death Squad is a song.

Yikes. Proud Boys... a male-only wacko neo-fascist group. Sadly, founded by a Canadian.
He actually used to be funny, once upon a time.

Although I guess they do tolerate nutty racists too, they do "officially" deny race is their deal claing to be "alt-lite" instead of alt-right for that very reason.

They seem to prefer to be creeps in every possible other way, except racist stuff. How comforting, eh?

I mean, the Proud Boys can claim that all they want. But it certainly isn't true, according to the FBI.

First I'm hearing of it. Don't you sort of have to be white, to be a white surpremacist?
It sounds like one heck of a bizarre oxymoron to me.
A certain proportion of people we white folks would consider to be Hispanic actually consider themselves white -- especially if they have descended from ancestors from Spain or Portugal , or have ancestors from non-Spanish-speaking SA countries like Brazil (Portuguese), Caribbean countries (Haiti), or if they are descendants of generations of mixed-race couples.

I won't name names here, but google "Hispanic members of white power groups" and you'll get an eyeful.

The gunman who killed at least eight people and wounded a half-dozen more at a Dallas-area outlet mall was identified Sunday as a 33-year-old suspected neo-Nazi sympathizer named Mauricio Garcia, two senior law enforcement officials told NBC News.

This is why one racial category is "Hispanic of white descent" and another is "Hispanic of non-white descent."

Anecdote: In the early 1990s, I had a pen pal who was of partial Hispanic descent, and she had a cousin, blond, blue-eyed, and Scandinavian by birth, whose biological father had died when he was very young and his mother remarried a couple years later. He was adopted and raised by his Hispanic stepfather, and because of his surname, qualified for a minority-oriented loan when he started a business.

There was also this mass shooting that nobody seems to remember nowadays. Its Native American culprit was also a neo-Nazi.

From your link:

"Also, the law enforcement officials said, Garcia had several social media accounts and appeared to be drawn to neo-Nazi and white supremacist content. He was also wearing, when he was killed, a patch on his chest with a right-wing acronym."

ETA: His family needed a translator but he's a white supremacist??

Hispanic only means you come from a Spanish speaking country. It has nothing to do with race at all. You could be any race and still be hispanic if you come from a Spanish speaking country.

White supremacist/neo-Nazi ideology is not just limited to English speaking people. (Not saying his parents are believers in it, just pointing out that there is a worldwide issue with hateful, racist ideologies.)

MOO.

Do you mean someone was filming the dead bodies?? I sincerely hope I’m misunderstanding your comment. How cold and uncaring can someone be??
MOO
Yes. There were multiple videos. Since I obviously follow a lot of news and crime, they somehow popped up on my Twitter main page with no warning. It was unbelievable.
I am not usually impacted by things like that, and it shook me.
All I could think was, please don’t let their loved ones see them like this.
I don't watch videos (not intentionally), I have no desire to watch people being killed. I have seen a photograph of the aftermath at the front of the mall, which is horrific but I think it helps (me personally, not in general) to keep it real, because the general consensus seems to be LE or higher ups underpaying it, calling it an attack instead of what it actually was. I don't want to forget it in a couple of days and move on, every single victim of every mass shooting deserves to be recognised and remembered. It’s the least I can do.
I think there are ways to keep it real without disrespecting victims any further or potentially traumatizing people by displaying something so graphic.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed> "Garcia, 33, had been living at a motel and did not have any felonies, J.D. Miles reported. He was reportedly working as a security guard."
"Miles added that Garcia's younger brother, Christian—who has a lengthy criminal record—has been inaccurately accused of being the gunman."

<modsnip: quoted post was removed> This is the newspaper who has been breaking a lot of the news.

I don’t want to quote because they are continually updating, but the article discusses the shooters brother being incorrectly identified as him.

It may be his brother who has a known criminal record. The shooter does not have a criminal record.

I remember when Ryan Lanza, who was 100% innocent, was mistakenly identified as the Sandy Hook shooter. And that's not even a common surname.

Both brothers were living at the same hotel and the media got Mauricio Garcia's first name wrong in the first reports. So I'm sure that was part of what caused the confusion.

Totally agree. White supremacist has a "big umbrella" where men of all shapes and sizes and races and nationalities etc share an ideology of hate for one or more groups IMO. Males who are sexist, antisemitic, homophobic and share a litany of other positions on today's seemingly hotpoint issues get radicalized many times online and elsewhere. It's a channel for their anger IMO
This is a pretty good article that gives you a flavor :
If pbs is not your cup of tea - there are plenty other options on google that also informative
All IMO
