Alanna's dad went door to door Monday night looking for her and the police had been called at that time. Why didn't this story make the Fort Worth and Dallas news before her dumped remains were found? Few knew she was missing on Tuesday morning, so few were looking for her and for strange occurrences. Wth?

Actually... she was found on Roundrock and Cindy at about 7:30 p.m....

Dad called LE at about 9:15 p.m....

It was on the scanner not too long after that... IIRC...

ETA...Dad "ran into" an LE car when he was out looking for her... and reported Alanna missing then.. at about 9:15 p.m. HTH.. :seeya:

Some of the previous news video and reports upset me because they are painting the family in a negative light without all of the facts. Just like all the evidence bags etc taken by the FBI is pretty standard in a homicide investigation. There has been no indication the family is in any way involved or suspected.

Fwiw, from the Flickr photos (which we cannot link in this thread, I'm sure), the family looks happy, including the kids. You do not get the sense of an overtly dysfunctional or materially deprived household. (I'm thinking of some of the photos of Elaina Steinfurth...)

(Yes, I am still hoping this family does not prove me wrong about them...)

Until I saw all that the family seems to do with the kids I had them pegged as who did it. Not sure after seeing them b/c they seem like they do things with the kids. Though I wish people would stop letting their young kiddos out by themselves. We have kids ( 10 all together from 2 separate houses) that live around the corner from us. They are forever trying to come to my house. Christmas break one of them came over asking if my kids could play, I said no she then ask well can you play with me? I tell her no she then asked can I just play in your house alone then? By this point I'm a bit annoyed and I tell her no you need to go back home and never go to someones house who you do not know and ask them if you can go inside. It is not safe. This child then ask me if I know anyone down my block who would let her play. There is a SO at the end of the block. I repeat no and you do not go down this block asking b/c like I said it is not safe. I deal with these kids almost daily. I have seen them knock on several doors even to houses that there are no kids. I have told their parents they just seem to not care.

See, I didn't even think of that angle (don't have kids). I guess in the back of my head I keep thinking they already know who did it, but they still need to warn the public of threats if they exist, or assure them otherwise.

Ugh, now I'm back to worrying about family/household involvement (due to LE not warning of threat to public).

We are close enough that it had me all eyes on the kids when we were outside. Not sure if I turned my back once and we were in a gated yard. I also turned on the extra alarms on their windows and locked the extra locks on all the doors. My husband laughs every night asking me if we were locked down like Fort Knox. Tonight I said we are locked down like Fort Knox was under fire.

She said she seemed like a sad little girl and she wished she had done more to help her. She lived with her parents and another man that she called Papa and when the lady asked her about Papa, the child wouldn't elaborate. Also she said when it was time to go home, she began sobbing. The last part I can imagine some kids do but couple with the other stuff and now knowing her fate, you have to at least WONDER wth .

I'm hoping she just did not want to go home b/c she did not have that "normal" family life that most people have and not b/c of abuse. She is getting to that age were it might embarrass her to answer questions about her home life. By 6 she is old enough to start seeing how others live and start questioning her own family. My daughter called my husband's friends uncle ____. She stopped once she asked whose brother they were. She said then why am I calling them that if they are not you or daddy's brother. She was last yr so she was 6-7 when she stopped.

The same neighbor said she met the girl’s mother for the first time Monday night. It was after the body had been found, but the mother apparently did not know about the discovery.
She told Derinda that her daughter had gone missing, but she didn’t seem overly worried.
“I bet she’s over at a neighbor’s home,” Derinda recalled the mother saying. “She always does this.”

One of my theories is that Alanna knocked on the door of a neighbor's house and was killed by him. :(

I never really saw her play with other kids,” Kaylee said. “She would always come to my house and knock on the door … . It doesn’t seem real.”
Another neighbor, Derinda, who declined to provide her last name, said there were signs that something wasn’t right at the girl’s home. On Saturday, Derinda was gardening when she heard the girl shouting for help. She was stuck in a tree in her front yard.
The woman went to help the girl, whom she described as a “spitfire.” From the tree, the girl told her neighbor: “Strangers are not to be in my yard. You are not allowed in my yard,” Derinda said.
The woman made a deal with the girl that she would get permission from someone inside her home to help her down, which she did.

I was thinking the same thing...

Reporting of some comments from outsiders (in articles... not sleuthers) seem slanted...

CNN affiliate KTVT said no children from the area have been reported missing. KTVT said the body was decomposed, making it difficult for officials to determine the child's gender.

“We’re trying to establish when she was last seen,” Macon said. “We’re also trying to determine when the tarp was first seen because we’ve had witnesses put the time from mid-afternoon until 7 p.m.”

Macon noted that the girl had friends in the neighborhood around her home, but authorities had not determined if she had been playing with any of them.

If the child's body was decomposing, there is no way she was decomposing that badly within just a few hours of playing with friends. Does anyone know what time anyone last saw her alive? jmo

It sounds to me like Alanna just wasn't supervised much. Our next door neighbors are the same way. They seem like good people but their six year old just comes and goes as she pleases. My husband and I are always shaking our heads at the lack of concern they have over her whereabouts. Most likely she'll get through life fine but I can see how these situations are ideal for bad people looking for the right opportunity.

We have been trying to determine if in fact she was in a state of decomp. that bad as to not be able to identify gender. This is the only article that I have found that states this.

The teenage boy who found her (bless his heart) knew right away she was a girl. A neighbor saw her playing with his grandkids around 2:00pm today in his yard.

Back on the street where the girl lived for at least the past few years, authorities cordoned off about half the block with crime scene tape. Neighbors said they often saw the girl out playing alone.

“She was a precious little girl,” said neighbor Kay Stief. “I usually just saw her on her scooter.”

Kaylee Bryant, 13, befriended the girl about a year ago. They would jump on the trampoline in Kaylee’s backyard or watch cartoons in her house, she said.

“I never really saw her play with other kids,” Kaylee said. “She would always come to my house and knock on the door … . It doesn’t seem real.”

Is it just me, or does it seem that our children are being murdered at an alarmingly accelerated rate these days? Prayers for this little one's family~

I'll see if I can find a link ...

Pure speculation on my part but my guess is was a misunderstanding between police and media. Example: "is the body female or male?" and police giving a brush off answer like, "we don't know" and media then assumes it to be a literal answer and runs it as being so decomposed they can't determine the gender.

I could be totally wrong, though...guess we'll see.

There could be other reasons why LE didn't know the gender. (eg. hair cut short, child looked gender neutral)

I don't see where the local affiliate says her body was decomposing? Is that a misprint on CNN's part?

FWIW. Evidently, the teenager who pulled the tarp back knew from the hair it was a girl.

I don't know about children specifically, but homicide rates are significantly down from just 25 years ago. There were about 25,000 murders in 1991 compared to about 15,000 in 2010. The population increased by about 56 million in that time.

Absolutely. But the boys who found her didn't seem to wonder if she was a boy or a girl at all. The fact that first reports were all saying decomp and yet timeline and the fact it hasn't been mentioned much since all make me wonder if it was a misunderstanding. But maybe not.

@ Mom, I cant find the article I read about seeing her at 2:00pm today so I edited my post above until I can find it. I know I read that though....
When I find it I will post it...
