It's very heart-warming to see so many people standing up for this woman who lost her life so tragically.

Imo, it's important to know about the other 4 officers that responded to this call. How long have they been LEO's? How long on this particular force? Why were they also approaching this call as they did? Who was leading?

There must have been a supervisor that knew what was going down in real time (on scene or off does not matter). What is that person's experience and where? Was the supervisor giving orders on how to approach this house? Not one person put the brakes on in order to assess the situation.

Have read about so many tragic shootings by US LEO's and the trend imo is, the faster they shoot, the less time on the job they have. Most seem to be less than 5 years, many less than 3 years and in this case hardly any at all. Was he standing alone in the backyard without an experienced LEO with him?

The press release seems to be more of 'the best defense is a good offence'. Jmo.

I don’t see how he will be charged with anything less than murder. I do think the sentence will ultimately fall in line with what he would get if convicted of manslaughter since there’s significant overlap in the sentencing options.

I think it’s disgraceful that he will walk free, with pay and benefits, while they figure it out. If she had shot him, she would no doubt be sitting in a jail cell, if she was fortunate enough not to be killed on the spot for shooting at an officer.
I would hope that paid leave won’t be for very long. Shouldn’t take them very long to complete this internal investigation since it was all recorded. That officer shot his weapon almost simultaneously to ordering hands up. Never even once announced a weapon or shouted to put the gun down (if she had one). It was unjustifiable homicide. Won’t and shouldn’t take investigators long to conclude that. And DA already has footage now so i’m Certain charges will be coming very soon. MOO

JMO But perhaps neighborhood demographics and crime stats, prior calls to the street/address, home owner has a record. Any of this would be completely indefensible and the situation was handled atrociously. But just some ideas that cross my mind for why in the world the officers would ever approach this way from that call.

Yes, so maybe that is why the neighbor who called the non-emergency number made a point of saying it's not a domestic call and also he says there are no loud voice, no arguing.

Body camera footage of the incident shows an officer seeing a door open in the home and then going around the house with a colleague. The officer then opens a gate and holds a flashlight as he walks into the yard of the house. The officer then looks thorugh a window and he appears to see a person through a window and quickly yells out: “Put your hands up! Show me your hands!” Without ever identifying himself as a police officer, the officer fired a single shot through the window that killed Jefferson. The whole sequence took less than four seconds.

4 seconds for the "whole sequence" and only about 1.7 seconds from the 'puh' sound of the word put to the sound of the gun firing. Infuriating!

ETA: I said "only about 1.7" because I timed it 4 times and got 4 different numbers because it is so quick. The four numbers ranged from 1.44 seconds to 1.98 seconds

That poor little boy . . :(
Police: 8-year-old inside house when woman fatally shot by Fort Worth officer

FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth police confirm that an 8-year-old was inside a home early Saturday morning when an officer fired through a window, killing a 28-year-old woman who lived there.

This fatal officer-involved shooting happened just before 2:30 a.m., when police got a call about a home’s front door being open in the 1200 block of E. Allen Ave.

Police have release body camera video of what happened after the officer arrived at the home, including the moments before he fatally shot Atatiana Jefferson.

Nice job @Lynetta!

If the victim was holding the gun (found on the floor after she was killed) I believe that would have been one of the first things said. Do we even know if the gun was real? It could have been a toy gun.
I would be willing to bet the farm that officer did not see the gun before firing his. I bet Ft. Worth PD only realized it was there when they went over the body cam frame by frame. What shameless, feckless BS.

I don’t know but I have watched that video several times now trying to catch a glimpse of her and I see nothing. So if they do claim she was standing there with a gun (tho she had every right) they better have a clear screen shot of that. I personally don’t think he saw anything but a shadow of someone. Just terrible he had such a good shot. MOO

Lots of people in TX have guns in their homes. Even if she had a gun, she had a full right to do so inside her home. The police officer never even identified himself as such and he shot her so fast, I don't see how she had any time to respond to any of his commands.

But even if she did, she has a full right to do so in her home. So she wouldn't have been doing nothing wrong.

The Fort Worth Police Department said it released bodycam footage soon after the shooting to provide transparency, but that any video taken inside the house could not be distributed due to state law.

What’s that law? Anyone know?

Texas’ law provides that only body camera footage that is used, or could be used, as evidence in a criminal proceeding is subject to the state’s open record law and specifically prohibits the release of any footage taken in a private place, or that contains behavior that didn’t result in an arrest and would only be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine.
There are special exceptions to disclosure that only apply in the body camera footage context. For example, if the recording is made in a private space, or if the recording relates only to the investigation of a fine-only misdemeanor with no arrest, the entity must have written permission from the subject of the recording before it can be released. Special rules also apply if the footage documents the use of deadly force, or is being used in the investigation of an officer.
