The first question from a reporter I have heard in a while about what the experience of LE in a missing person case. GREAT question. GREAT answer. Great Sheriff, IMHO.
Agreed, they have 80 years experience between them and seem eager to ask for help in areas they don’t have expertise in. They are pulling out all the stops to find Athena imo

Full Recap, BBM:
  • TIMELINE: Wednesday, November 30th, 4:15pm: Athena got off the school bus -> Stepmom called 911 at 6:40pm to report Athena missing. Step-mom was the only adult with her at the time. Dad was on the way to a hunting trip, stepmom called him and he turned around immediately. He was south of Fort Worth.
  • She was NOT wearing a jacket, only tshirt and boots. It was 28 degrees that first night.
  • Confirms the story of an argument between Athena and stepmother, not unusual, and she thought she would come back but she didnt
  • Within 14 mins, deputies, EMS, volunteer fire department, and a search commenced in the house, outside the house, in 6-acre area around the house.
  • DPS Helicopter & Fort Worth Air 1 used thermal imaging to find heat signature on the ground, only found wildlife, no indication of human activity
  • Search and rescue team 1 had canine teams working all night trying to pick up a scent; they picked up a short trail around the house and to the road, but nothing after
  • They have interviewed registered sex offenders in the area, in regarding to completely clearing them "not at this time"
  • Canvased houses in a five mile radius for cameras, nothing fruitful came of the videos
  • ~200 citizens helped search yesterday, walking shoulder to shoulder through the brush; they did not find anything
  • Emphasizes it was a search accompanied by an investigation. Now transitioning to investigation accompanied by a search. Transitioning from grand searches to spotted search.
  • Assisted by Texas Rangers, DPS CID, Local PD, US Marshalls, and FBI
  • Mother, stepmother, and father have been cooperative. Interviews were conducted by Texas Rangers and local investigators. It has gone well, they got information from them.
  • Asking citizens if they see anything, know anything, call the Wise County Sheriff or the FBI. Encouraging people to check outhouses and other areas of their property.
  • Its not productive to have 300 people staged when they've double and tripled checked area. NOT accepting volunteers at the moment
  • "Obviously there is reason for concern, doesn't mean they expect foul play but they do understand that is a possibility".

He said Athena got off the school bus, so I assume she was seen at school that day.

He also said dogs just tracked around the house....wouldn't they have tracked to where the school bus stopped to let her off? Or was it right there in front of the house?

eta...ok now I see "to the road"

I'll try to find a link and re-listen, but I'm pretty sure he said Athena got off the bus at 4:15 and stepmother called at 4:45.

ETA: Yes, she got off the bus at 4:15. Stepmom called at 6:40. (source: press conference @ 4:15 mark (oddly enough)

Sorry, I don't like the word "cleared". He did not say they have cleared registered sex offenders. He said, "not at this time" which is much much different. imho.

He said Athena got off the school bus, so I assume she was seen at school that day.

Good to hear they're using dogs.
I'd like to think she is hiding out somewhere and too embarrassed to come home......
But she wasn't dressed for chilly weather and it's been almost three days now !
And only seven years old.
Scary !!!!

28 degrees and Athena ran off without returning for a coat? <modsnip: not victim friendly>

And where did all the incorrect early info come from? Which “family” talked about Athena having a habit of running off, which caused a delay in the Amber Alert?

Oh and also, thank you everyone for posting about the presser. Much appreciated as I wasn’t able to watch it right now.:)

He also said they tracked to 2123. We will need to transcribe to get exactly what was said.
