Well the beauty of all this is that before this was a local story. I know the ' affluenza ' word caught some national attention. But the last few weeks have shown the whole world his face and his mom's. That's a good thing. Because I have a feeling this boy is going to be running from this the rest of his life .

So her bail could be $150,000? Big deal for her, unless all these lawsuits bankrupted them.

And if she can’t pay that, which she almost certainly can, she will pay just 10% to a bail bondsman. Small change for her.

Lets see how he fares in jail, even if it's only 120 days. He was spoiled rotten by his parents. No mom and pop in jail to follow his every wish.

Lets see if he even spends 120 days in jail.

BREAKING: Ethan Couch and his mom are fighting extradition. U.S. Marshals say it could be weeks before they return now. http://bit.ly/22yqkBF

ETA the link is not the fighting extradition story but that is on the fb page for fox 4 news. So it looks like they will be in a Mexican jail for awhile. :jail:

Life in the Mexican detention center must not be too bad or they wouldn't be fighting to stay. Maybe they're also planning on an escape from there. I must say the Couchs are a lawyer's dream come true. They throw money at lawyers like most of us throw out the garbage.

I was thinking the sickening thing is they probably won't even have to pay for a lawyer. There are probably lawyers lined up now throwing their cards at them begging to take the case for free just because of the publicity and getting their ( the lawyer's ) face on the tv screen every evening at 6 pm .

Does a 3rd class felony conviction get jail time or prison time in Texas? Mama Twerp (=Twit Perp) might not have considered the prison option..... Can you imagine her in a general population of women who are a) broken about how their chronic poverty has impacted their relationships with their kids, and/or b) are predatory? Plus, there are going to be dozens of "interfering with apprehension" cases in a setting like that. Mama Twerp + orange jumpsuit = "you are just an average convict, nothing special". Mama Twerp is gonna hate being average.

I think that with these two the most important thing to them is staying together. IMO they need to be separated and see how fast they are willing to return to Texas.

Does anyone here speak Spanish? I am curious what this woman is saying about Ethan. She was feeding/providing food to Ethan in Mexico while he was there.

It's a video on this news anchors twitter if you scroll down a little bit. I'm not sure how to add the video here.

I was wondering what kind of shenanigans Momster and her attys would come up with to delay being brought to TX. I wonder if they will remain housed at the immigration facility in Mexico until the matter is settled? Off to read.....

I believe the two are being deported from Mexico and not extradited to the US. They are being held in an immigration facility, not jail. You can get deported from any country for not a whole lot of reason. AFAIK, this is not something a lawyer can fight: it's a country's prerogative to expel undesirables.

Further upthread there is an article about extradition vs. deportation in Mexico (as in most countries). Extradition is managed via treaty; deportation is the prerogative of the deporting country.

Now, if only Mexico would deport this pair to North Korea....

How it went down...

They stayed at the Los Tules resort from Dec. 20 to Dec. 23, but were asked to leave because the condo’s owner was coming in for Christmas. While at the condo, they called out for a pizza, which tipped police off to their whereabouts. By the time police showed up on Dec. 28, the mother and son were gone. But one of the condo’s employees found them an apartment in Puerta Vallarta’s less glitzy center. She told them where Couch and his mother were staying, and Mexican detectives located the apartment and staked it out.
