Just a little insight. Dabs are made by extracting THC from the flower, some extraction methods can be dangerous. The substance is like a very thick honey. You use a rig that is basically a bong with a piece of metal attached to it. The metal is heated up with a torch and the dab is scraped with a metal instrument and touched to the now very hot metal piece on the rig and then the smoke is sucked through the bong. It is SUPER potent.

I'm not much of a smoker...however I've done dabs maybe 3 times. The first time was one of the worst experiences in my life...I had to literally hold my own head up and I had the most bizarre sensations in my body. I can definitely see the allure for long time smokers who have a hard time getting high just smoking the flower.

I live in a legalized state and I feel like I'm suddenly seeing a lot more violence and robberies related to marijuana and honestly, it's kind of terrifying because it is so common around here that these kinds of things could happen to anyone.

I realize we may not know all the details, I do feel for her parents. I have two kids a little younger than KC and worry about how to "know what your kids are doing" all the time. I also hear from folks who've tried desperately to save their own teenagers from making bad choices. I wonder where the 16yo murderer drug dealer's parents are in all this...

From the affidavit...

Source 1 stated that ......... requested Kaytlynn come alone and not bring him or her dog

So the POI knew Kaytlynn and Source 1 were together. You would assume he knew Source 1 would probably know of the plans. What difference would it make to them if Source 1 saw the exchange? None, it wouldn't matter to them... after all they were looking to make money from this exchange!

IMO they (there was another person with the POI in that initial meeting) never had the marijuana, they were hoping Kaytlynn would be alone and they would be able to go back to his apartment and do whatever to Kaytlynn during that first meeting. Drugs/potential to make money was just a lure IMO.

Source 1 stated that the first meeting with ......... was supposed to happen so ......... could give Kaytlynn and Source 1 the marijuana so they could make dabs. ......... was going to give them the marijuana and not charge them for it. After they made the dabs, Kaytlynn was going to sell it back to .......... and his brother

All that was supposed to happen, but didn't cause she never got the marijuana like she was supposed to in that first meeting. So I can't see how this could be over the $300 if she never got the marijuana to make the dabs in the first place.

After reading the affidavit a few times, I believe this was premeditated and this /'s just had the urge to kill OR had other urges that Kaytlynn declined inside that apartment.

All MOO, IMO :moo:

You know, we all keep wondering how a kid as wholesome, talented, & smart as Kaytlynn could have been involved in drugs. Perhaps I'm just painfully old fashioned, but it seems to me that kids now days are not given any consequences for any unacceptable behavior beginning from the time they are very small & continuing on into their teen years. Fuddle-duddy me is willing to bet that anyone here over 40 years old knows all about consequences. Sure, all teens do stupid & dangerous stuff & I am no exception, but once upon a time there were consequences for our bad behaviors.

A $300.00 pot deal. Thats not jist buying SOME pot. What the hay!!!

I had no idea how dab was made so I watched a youtube video. It requires silk, a screen, space to make it, a LOT of pot to begin with, and expertise to make the useable sticky product. The process of making dab would be stinky as it has to be heated numerous times to get out the sticky oil. It seems a little bizarre that KC was making this in her home as a "job" and nobody noticed. KC's family didn't live in a huge house with multiple unused rooms or empty basement. What gives? I think she never got the marijuana to try to make dabs.

You knew it. There's always a lot going that we don't know about. A lot more infno than we know.

She didn't appear sexually assaulted though. Right? Her shorts were still on. But he may have killed her for thrill or because she spurned him. Who knows.

My first instinct is always some sexual predator. Adult. Several shocking past cases allowed me to be open to the possibility that it was a kid.

But the drug connection? People suggested that and I felt that was wrong and insulting. This kid was so young and seemed so innocent to me. And she wasn't just experimenting. According to texts she was using and buying and making and dealing.

Very shocking to me. That's some sophistication on the part of such a little thing. And now she's dead. Damn.

Ugh. I learn something with every horrible case.

Yeah, I'm stunned that this young girl was involved in this. I about fell off my chair reading the details. She looked so young, seemed very smart and accomplished in her short life.
This is very sad.
As far as the suspect ,from the court papers it appears that he was bad news, and was told to leave a residence due to those concerns . Source 1 indicated him/herself concerns about this, and that is why he/she initially accompanied Kaytlynn on the first meeting. It sounds to me this suspect has a lot of anger issues and Kaytlynn paid the ultimate price.

Court documents claim the girl was involved in a drug deal that night, planning to obtain (..make) concentrated doses of cannabis (dab) for (...with) $300 (of pot).
Text messages obtained by authorities revealed the girl tried to meet the suspect to get the drugs and had asked someone – described as “Source 1” in court documents – to look after her dog while she bought the marijuana, the Daily News reported.

(...) are mine.
She never got the huge amount of marijuana required to make dabs.

I think mom & step-dad worked all day. I believe they thought that 14 year old Kaytlynn was responsible enough to stay at home alone from the time she got out of summer school until they got home. Sadly, she wasn't & paid for her mistake with her life. Previously she had given them no reason to suspect she was lured into trouble. Admittedly it's been a long time since I was 14 years old but by that age I was home alone a good bit in the summer. I spent my time cooking, washing clothes, ironing, taking care of my little brother, or other assigned chores. JMO

News articles state she was PLANNING to make dab. She was PLANNING to buy $300 of pot and make dab. She was killed before receiving the pot. The killer didn't want her to bring her dog along during the purchase because he premeditated her murder to steal her $300. He didn't want to dispose of her dog after killing her and have it bark and bite him.

I don't know. I do see consequences. In situations where young people are going astray typically we see things like divorce, dysfunction, poverty or overworked parents more than we see spoiled kids. Sure it happens but I still see plenty of parents who cause their kids to face consequences for bad behavior.

Whats the difference between dabs and the old fashioned hash?

Please see my post from July (4 men in Pennsylvania thread) re: my opinion on dabs (I'm a Medical Marijuana patient):

A snippet, click above to read full post:

"There's a whole new "dab" thing where you use a blow torch and a "rig" (expensive, a few hundred bucks) but that is way too strong for me (I fell over literally after one hit and my friends had to carry me home, I dont like it because the process reminds me of smoking crack or something (I've never smoked crack yuk). I am NOT a fan of this dab movement."

Youre probably right but didn't he owe her $300 or am I confused?

It makes me feel like the story isn't true. Or perhaps that's just denial because I can't imagine a 14 year old softball player manufacturing a potent marijuana product in her apartment and engaging in drug deals with troubled 16 year old boys.

Whats the difference between dabs and the old fashioned hash?

I thiiiiink dabs have to be heated at a much higher temperature and is more potent, al hough the hash oil I have right now tests at 80%... Good question...

I'm not an expert on this part of it, but I believe there's hash and then there's hash oil. Hash is more powdery, like kief...it's more potent and can be mixed in with other things. The hash oil is like what they use in the vape pens and can definitely be super potent like a dab. I'm pretty sure the different names just come from how it's processed and what form it turns into (powder, liquid, shatter etc.) The stuff out there today is DEFINITELY nothing like what was out there 20 years ago!

I'm glad you do see consequences. It's nice to know there are still some parents who still believe in it.

Yes, they have the "bubble hash" that you can sprinkle on top of a bowl...I find this to be very hard on the lungs, same with "wax", rosin, and shatter...(these are referred to as "concentrates" at the dispensaries). The oil is much smoother imo, and convenient in the pen.

My 14 yr old spoiled niece just recently returned from a 2 wk behavioral boot camp where the focus was about *consequences*.

Within 2 weeks of her return, she was back to her horrid self; sad to say. I think she needs more like a 2 year bootcamp but it's a touchy subject in the family & I don't feel comfortable saying much.

Really curious about motive...have a feeling there may have been a sexual assault, he was so determined she come alone. But of course motive does not explain a crime like this anyway. Most likely, it was one of the "usual" motives, sex, greed, revenge, etc...or just evil.
money was the lure whether owed or due, assault was the motive.. the hammer was to ensure compliance and to use to threaten her to not tell. She fought. I think afterward he had help to clean up and move her.
So very sad.

My husband works with 12-17 year olds getting them into treatment for drug/alcohol addiction and/or behavioral issues. The stories I hear...it's so sad. I hope she gets more help, 2 weeks isn't very effective.
