Just because I saw a little discussion about it, I've volunteered with refugees before and so I know a little bit about refugee issues and refugee resettlement. Happy to answer questions if it helps!

Gosh I sure am hoping for a good outcome for this sweet little one.

Here is the link for the statement that Lina's parents have one other child, age 2. It wasn't at the press conference, but was the answer to a question in a KENS5 interview. It is at 4:23.

Missing 3-year-old San Antonio girl last seen at playground | kens5.com

That’s interesting. When my kids were two and four they stuck together like glue when we went out. Little one followed the big one and imitated everything she did. Big sister looked out for a little sister. Big sister even got on to me when she thought I wasn’t properly supervising her little sister! Does anyone else have kids that do something similar? If I had to go inside to take care of something for the younger one I took the older one inside with us. But that’s just me.

So, reports are still saying that Lina is three. If she’s not at least four I’ll eat my hat. MOO

In an interview Lina's father said that Lina's mother saw Lina walking along the path. I don't know if there's still something being lost in translation here or not though. If she did see her walking the path, I don't know why she would assume Lina was heading home and go there rather than follow her. I'm not trying to beat mom up, and in cases like this hindsight is 20/20. I'm just saying that with young children, the only predictable thing about them is how unpredictable they are. Just MOO
This is why I wish we knew which apartment or at least which building they lived in. If Lina walked down the path they always take to and from the play area, this might be the reason Mom thought she was heading home and was not alarmed at first. Was someone else at the home? Did Mom have the 2 year old with her at the playground and had to gather her up before she went off to check on Lina. If she looked up, saw Lina heading away, turned to retrieve the 2 year old, who may have been playing, it may have been a couple of minutes before she could head home to check on Lina. Unfortunately, that’s all it takes…

Dude probably got away with it...and just observe your kids.

Interesting thought - whether a child, aged 3-6, could be lured without speaking the same language as her abductor?

It would be easier for an abductor to use language to lure, but we've also heard the stories about luring with a puppy, candy, money, gifts, toys and so on.
I think you are right in that it is possible to lure a child with out a common language. At the same time, the use of those props (candy, puppy etc) was probably supported by a common language in most cases.

I am thinking focus on what is more likely first (common language), then pursue it. If that does not generate results, expand the focus to include other possibilities.

As Afghans as a whole speak several languages, the interpreter should be instructed to start with the girl's ethnic language to determine if the subject has any understanding of it. Also note strange language switching midway through an interview.

Multi lingual people who are under stress from a police interview will often insist on reverting to their true native language. For example, suddenly having problems "understanding" questions in one language they are fluent in. They then use the additional time need for say, a translation into a translation to formulate better answers.

I wonder if she's taken herself off on a little adventure and got stuck somewhere obscure? I'd have thought she'd have been crying out though.

It's just so odd that they've specifically said they're not treating it as an abduction yet... she's 3... she's not exactly runaway has she? What other options are there?!

IMO, when police are cagey like that its because they already know what really happened but don't have proof yet(usually a body).

Reminds me of a case in Fort Worth, where 14 year old Kaytlynn Cargill went missing from her apartment complex and police were tight lipped about the case from the beginning. People were demanding why the police weren't issuing warnings about a child killer or kidnapper on the loose. Turns out they had already found the crime scene and knew that she was dead, and were just waiting to find her body before arresting the 16 year old suspect.

I agree, and it is very important for investigators to be able to communicate directly with Mom, in this case with the aid of an impartial interpreter, not a family member. MOO
Very, very well said.

I think the ideal interpreter for both the parents and other people would be somebody who interpreted for the military in field situation.

Such an interpreter would more likely be able to note and inform detectives of pregnant pauses, answers with real or implied caveats (If that were true, then "X" ", requests for the questions to be repeated etc.

I would agree in a case where there's some doubt the mother is telling the truth. With the FBI now being involved, it seems highly likely they've got enough corroborating witnesses that a tiny detail misspoken in the translation won't matter. They can get essential information; does the family have any thoughts on who might have done this, has anyone seen a person lurking around recently, what time was the child last seen and where, etc.

This same neighbor also said (in the video) that the complex has changed since she moved in 6 months ago, and she doesn't want to renew her lease. She said that there have been strange people coming in there that she doesn't recognize, and that because of that, management now has a 7:00 pm curfew for children to be outside.
wow, that curfew is alarming.... for an apartment complex ? I could see them saying the playground is closed but the curfew makes me curious.

“The little girl that was here. She was playing right here when I came home from work,” Santana Jackson said. “She was in a red dress.”

Jackson is a mom of three and frequently saw her neighbor, Lina, playing outside.

“This little girl plays with my 3-year-old, (Cora),” Jackson said.

However, Jackson admits the mood has changed. Now, an empty playground and an eerily quiet apartment complex are proof Khil is still nowhere to be found.

“This makes me not want to have my kids come outside,” Jackson said.

Not sure if it matters… Based on the address, I believe this is the apartment complex. They do not have their own web site. This does have some additions photos though. Note - this is just my own speculation based off the address of 9400 Fredericksburg Road; San Antonio. I have not seen the name of the apartment complex in MSM. MOO/JMO

That's it, they've been mentioned in a few articles

I wonder if Lina’s mom often dresses both of her girls in the same colors.
This neighbor says the girl she saw in the red dress plays with her three-year-old. In my opinion, if Lina has a two year old sister, the younger sibling would be much closer in age to a three year playmate than Lina appears to be. Lina is the size of a 5-6 yr old if the description is correct.
I suppose it’s possible the neighbor has the girls mixed up.
MOO
