MJ apparently had an Instagram acct where his intro said I hate c**s. IMO this is a hate crime against our men in blue. FB search full name>pictures and you'll find it.

This is simply not true. A hate crime isn't defined by the race, religion, gender, etc., of the perp - it's defined by the victim's status and motivation for the crime.

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/investigate/civilrights/hate_crimes/overview

That may well be the definition of a hate crime, but that certainly isn't the manner in which they are prosecuted. The majority of "hate crimes" I've ever seen prosecuted have been a white killing a black or other ethnicity.

I never have really understood the entire concept of a "hate crime", since pulling out a gun and blowing somebody away seems like a pretty hateful action in general, regardless of gender or ethnicity.

The followers and supporters of BLM really have a problem on their hands now. Every time they have a little get together and decide to start trash talking the cops and getting in their faces, they can expect armed snipers to be up on the rooftops. It won't be one of their own though, it'll be the cops up there with their own sniper rifles.

Yeah, the center part of the badge is too blurry. I'm sick to know he was a veteran because now people are going to spin this and use it for their own special interests.

Mr. sneakers told me he just read "at least four snipers." I haven't verified this yet.

I want to know who the three people they have in custody who were heading south on 35 last night are......supposedly they are not cooperating (maybe have lawyered up). It was reported that one of them is female.... weird. JMO

I do not agree with the violence. But I can see why some are totally fed up with feeling like they are not comsidered to be human beings- black people. I imagine it gets to you after awhile. Knowing that your life does not matter.

When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. I pray we can go a different direction.

The snarky racist views towards people of color is going to kill us all.

I don't see this at all, this belief that anyone, regardless of color, isn't considered or treated like a human being. It's unfortunate that this propaganda has taken hold so tragically. There unfortunately are psychopaths and mentally unstable people out there though, who operate under whatever they can latch onto just to justify violence and killing. Perhaps they were born angry, with a chip on their shoulder the size of Mt. Everest, or maybe they had some extremely bad influences in their life. Maybe all. Whatever the case, at least there's one less psycho on the street, the question now, how many more are out there, and how many innocent lives will be lost before they're caught. I don't personally believe this one was operating entirely alone, but I could be wrong.

It was alluded to in the Q&A after the presser as well. The DPD, under the excellent leadership of this born-and-bred Dallas police chief, has had a policy of trying not to appear too 'SWAT' in their protection of the general public at large gatherings like this so as not to appear to expect the worst...to appear community friendly, to not appear racist, and to oppose stereotypical misconceptions.

So for some lone sniper to ambush and target these same (unarmored) Dallas police from a hidden position - officers who daily (indeed last night) put their lives on the line "as guardians for this great democracy" as Chief Brown says - is the epitome of misguided venom. As the mayor said in his presser Q&A comments, Dallas is the 'best of the best' in recent years as far as their record of police-involved shootings. As major cities go, Dallas is at the bottom of the list statistically in number of incidents of that nature.

So it would appear this COWARD sniper with an assault rifle wanted to make his violent statement about "white officers" and the Minnesota and Louisiana police shootings by summarily gunning down 5 cream-of-the-crop, exceptionally community-friendly Dallas police officers, and wounding several more officers and innocents. The irony being that this Dallas rally protesting police brutality was, apart from this sniper, unified, peaceful and successful, largely due to the continued efforts of a local LE that consciously and daily works hard at having a unified relationship with the community they serve--to the point of putting aside the armored attire that might have saved their lives last night.

:(

Agree. By all accounts, Dallas PD has done an exemplary job in community policing, working with the people in the neighborhoods and fostering a sense of trust. Very tragic and wrong. He/they also harmed the good reputation of BLM members who have been running a peaceful organization. From listening to some of the interviews this morning, it doesn't sound as though this incident will change the work of Dallas PD and BLM to maintain good relations within the community. Other cities should follow their example. RIP to all.

Question, especially for those with Military/LE/Firearm background: What is the possibility that this was a lone sniper? Could one person have done all this shooting?

The news reports initially said the bullets were coming from above, but didn't know the direction.

If more than one shooter is involved, I hope they find them fast.

I'll ask my brother...he was a sniper in the army. I truly hope they have everyone. There is a vigil today at 12 for police officers my friend heard about.

The images from last night, being continually shown on MSM, show an incredible scenario. The LEO ran TOWARDS the directions of fire. They shielded the protestors and bystanders. They got people out of cars and on the sidewalks to safety.

In a situation like this, these LEO showed their true bravery and courage, putting their lives at risk for ALL people. Bless them.
I hope that this will settle things once and for all. Every occupation has its bad seeds. We are all Human first. Cops are all different things like everyone else. Most officers are good people. The demonizing of LE needs to stop.

BLM leader giving a statement. Will work with authorities on a proper investigation. Extend condolences to families of victims. They believe that black lives matter, but also that blue lives matter, too. We can work to heal America.

Good statement.

Yes. We have to start looking at all people as just our fellow humankind trying to get by in this crazy thing called life and think with compassion first. This cycle of fear is going to be hard to break.

Did Obama order the flags at the WH to be flown at half staff/mast yet?

Could be a beginning. Two groups blue and black, both feeling victimized by the colors they represent, working together to educate the ignorant. Thus I could stand behind.

This states they were let go:

12: 16a Driver involved in I-35 incident says he picked his brother up from the downtown bus station and then was chased by Dallas police. He says the suspicious bag was his brother's luggage. Both men are released to go home.

It came from here:

ETA: doesn't include female in custody.

Is the one who got bombed in the building, the same one seen outside behind the white pillar? Because if they are not one and the same, there has to be at least two shooters. I heard one was neutralized early on before 2 am and then the bomb at after 2:30 approximates on time as I went to bed before the bomb.

R.I.P. to the truly innocent police officers killed last night. I am horribly sad for their family, friends, coworkers, etc...

We're in a whole heap of trouble here in America. I don't have the answers either. I get the anger. I get the sadness. I get the helplessness. I do. I just... I don't know. It's scary.

My brother said, depending on the movement, the first shot was probably a carefully placed shot, resulting in a death, we know of the one killed at the pillar, and the other shots, especialy since coming from above(typically more damaging as the bullet angles through and often hits more) if on a group of officers it's very possible he was a lone shooter.

Early Friday morning, dozens of officers filled the corridor of the emergency room at Baylor Medical Center, where other wounded officers were taken. The mayor and police chief were seen arriving there.

Four of the officers who were killed were with the Dallas Police Department, a spokesman said. One was a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer. The agency said in a statement that 43-year-old officer Brent Thompson, a newlywed whose bride also works for the police force, was the first officer killed in the line of duty since the agency formed a police department in 1989.

“Our hearts are broken,” the statement said.

I've heard so much conflicting things I'm honestly not sure!
