Never thought I'd see the day when Newt Gingrich and I agreed on something! You know when even Newt "gets it", or at least pretends to, the efforts of BLM have not been in vain.

"Gingrich: White People Don’t Understand It’s ‘More Dangerous to Be Black in America"

Gingrich spoke with CNN’s Van Jones on Facebook Live today and said “it is more dangerous to be black in America” because of crime in places like Chicago and how they’re “substantially more likely to end up in a situation where the police don’t respect you and you could easily get killed.”

Haven't clicked the link because I have no time or patience for the man. He probably walks back his statement, but at least it got said! :) Disagree about the slogan, however. I believe "Black Lives Matter" is just fine. It is a slogan of inclusion, not exclusion. Any misinterpretation of it is deliberate.

Why is there even a thing being of different colour? Where I grew up no one gave a ****.

Personality was all that mattered. (I grew up in Northern Europe)

That anyone would feel proud of the colour of their skin or hate someone who has a different colour skin than them is totally weird and strange to me.

 :therethere:

You must have grown up in a very special corner of Northern Europe.

I think he thought he was doing his part to achieve "justice". As much coverage as BLM has received over the past couple of years I would not agree that he wasn't a supporter.

I think the more info released about him, the more obvious it is that this killer was simply unhinged and predisposed to violence. He hated whites. Had he been white he'd probably have hated blacks and been a white supremacist.

He held onto his hatred even facing death, when he told LE he didn't support BLM. I'll take LE's word about that.

Does anyone have his social media link??

Johnson told negotiators "he wanted to kill officers, and he expressed killing white people, he expressed killing white officers" and "expressed anger for Black Lives Matter," Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Friday.

It was unclear what Johnson meant when he referred to the protest movement -- whether he was angry at it for being too peaceful or simply angry at the controversial police shootings that had sparked it.

I'm bawling, they are lining up in Dallas to hug cops. It's live streaming in FaceBook.

Dallas Police Chief Reveals Chilling Details About Sniper: He ‘Wanted to Kill White People’
by J.D. Durkin | 9:01 am, July 8th, 2016 VIDEO 1233

“Chief Brown then revealed some of the harrowing details that merged (sic) following conversation with the suspect. He told reporters moments ago:

“The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter. The suspect said he was upset about the recent police shooting. The suspect said he was upset about white people. The suspect said he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”

The suspect was not affiliated with any particular group, and acted alone.”

I just don't see how any viable connection between Black Lives Matter and the suspect can be drawn other then he likely used it in the same sentence when he was speaking with the police negotiator. Too loosie goosie for me.

After Shooting, Memories of Dallas' Darkest Day Return

by Emma Margolin

The minute 89-year-old Julian Read heard about Thursday's sniper attack on 12 Dallas police officers, a glaring thought immediately crossed his mind: November 22, 1963.

A former aide to the late Texas Gov. John Connally, Read was in the motorcade that fateful day, just a few cars behind President John F. Kennedy. He watched as the presidential limousine made a sharp left off onto Elm Street, heading across Dealey Plaza past the Texas School Book Depository, before hearing the popping sound of gunfire.

Fifty-three years later, the memory of Dallas' darkest day came flooding back with reports that another gunman had once again sat perched in a building overlooking the city's downtown district, raining down bullets from above...

I just realized that yesterday. My son is studying politics and he reminded me.
The grandmothers and grandfathers and great grans etc so many are still alive and remember.
Just another explanation no excuse...

I'm not sure how the thousands of marchers that night became "affiliated" with BLM, I'm not aware of any sign up process or membership process for its "membership." Seems to mostly be organized trough social media, lots of hate speech.

It is painfully clear that he supported the BLM movement and many of their "members'" desire to kill police officers, especially white officers.

If he were upset with BLM I would take it that many of its "members" would have been killed that night along with the police officers, am I right?

I think that his sentence is unclear at best. Can't really fault punctuation as his declarations were all probably excited utterances. His adrenaline was pumping, he'd just shot 14 people, he may know he's not coming out of this alive... So it could be he's upset, you know Black Lives Matters, or he's upset because black lives matter isn't working or he could have just meant to shout Black Lives Matter. Unless we hear the tapes we will never really get the nuance of the context. But in the end he chose a black lives matter event to make his point.

He was a despicable, poor excuse for a human being. He was on a mission to kill white cops. He succeeded.

Looking around for data on the race of the officer's in the police killing of blacks, I see lots but none so far that has the race of the officer. jmo TIA if someone finds it.

This study found race matters in police shootings, but the results may surprise you

5 Statistics You Need To Know About Cops Killing Blacks

http://www.dailywire.com/news/7264/5-statistics-you-need-know-about-cops-killing-aaron-bandler

Some may argue that these statistics are evidence of racist treatment toward blacks, since whites consist of 62 percent of the population and blacks make up 13 percent of the population. But as MacDonald writes in The Wall Street Journal, 2009 statistics from the Bureau of Justice Statistics reveal that blacks were charged with 62 percent of robberies, 57 percent of murders and 45 percent of assaults in the 75 biggest counties in the country, despite only comprising roughly 15 percent of the population in these counties.

The second article is easy to read and apropos to the topic, thank you for sharing!

ETA: The first article was also enlightening to me, I didn't mean to knock it in any way, sorry if it came off that way! I had no idea that police officers and civilians were more reluctant to shoot at AA than criminals of other races... Thanks again!
