ETA: My apologies: The link doesn’t work since the fund-raising site’s name is in it. I will alert a mod to see if an exception can be made. Sorry.
ETA: “A week after the creation of an online fundraising site that stated it wanted answers to the killings of Nichol Olsen and her daughters, donors are asking how the money is going to be used.
The site, ‘Searching for the Truth,’ was created by Olsen’s friends on Jan. 17. It raised $55,000 in five days; it crossed $60,000 Wednesday.
‘There are countless unanswered questions and we, as well as many, are waiting for answers,’ wrote Susan Khalil and Nicole Baptiste, its creators. ‘Please help us in our mission to seek the truth.’
As of Thursday, the fundraiser’s creators had repeatedly declined to answer on the record how exactly the money will be used.

On Tuesday, Salazar announced the FBI would join the investigation and help analyze forensic evidence.
Khalil then posted an update to the fundraising campaign, which said that because of the FBI’s participation, she and Baptiste ‘MAY or MAY NOT need to allocate the funds under the premise in which they were raised.’

Khalil said in a phone interview Thursday that they are currently not content with the FBI's level of involvement and will continue to ‘search for the truth.’
‘The FBI is assisting in the investigation. They are not taking over,’ she said. ‘If anyone has a problem with money that they contributed, and they’re uncomfortable, I’m more than willing to give them back their money.’
The FBI’s involvement appears to have donors concerned over the use of the money.
‘The FBI is now involved. What specifically is the intended goal of $100,000 raised to be used for? Private investigators? That sum seems excessive, particularly when any private investigation could in no way match the resources and skills of the FBI,’ wrote an online commenter.

Several others, however, wrote that they assumed the money would be used to help with funeral expenses or education for her surviving son — and that they were OK with that.

Salazar said Thursday that no one connected to the ‘Searching for the Truth’ site has been in contact with his office.

He doubts a second medical examiner’s report will come to a different conclusion or that a private investigator could uncover evidence the authorities don’t already have.

‘Look, some people are never going to be convinced,’ Salazar said. ‘You’ll never convince 100 percent of the people. I can’t worry about that. All we can do is go where the evidence takes us.’”
