One suspect dead, two others arrested in connection to disappearance of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen

One military suspect is deceased after taking his own life yesterday in Killeen, Texas, and a civilian suspect has been arrested by the Texas Rangers in connection with the disappearance of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen.

Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, along with the U.S. Marshals, Killeen Police Department, and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force were attempting to locate the junior Soldier from Fort Hood who fled the post late Tuesday.

While law enforcement agencies, minus Army CID Special Agents, attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect reportedly displayed a weapon and took his own life.

The civilian suspect is the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood Soldier and is currently in custody in the Bell County Jail awaiting charges by civilian authorities.

Additionally, the Texas Rangers, with assistance from Army CID and other agencies, are still processing the scene at the Leon River in Bell County, Texas, where partial human remains were discovered Tuesday.

(CNN)A soldier suspected in the disappearance of Fort Hood Pfc. Vanessa Guillen killed himself after police confronted him in Killeen, Texas, authorities said Wednesday.

Texas Rangers arrested another civilian suspect in connection with Guillen's disappearance, according to US Army Criminal Investigation Command, which calls itself CID.

The suspect, who has not been identified, is the estranged wife of a former soldier from Fort Hood. She is in Bell County Jail awaiting civilian authorities to press charges, CID said.

"We have made significant progress in this tragic situation and are doing everything possible to get to the truth and bring answers to the family of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen," CID spokesman Chris Grey said.

Suspect confronted
Early Wednesday, US Marshals, Killeen police and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located the unidentified soldier suspected in Guillen's disappearance, CID said. He had left his Fort Hood post. The authorities confronted him walking along a commercial and residential thoroughfare on the northeast side of the city, a few miles from base.

"As officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect displayed a weapon and discharged it toward himself. The suspect succumbed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Killeen Police Department said in a news release.

This came just hours after investigators discovered Tuesday the partial remains of a body near the Leon River in rural Bell County, where Killeen is located.

While authorities have not confirmed it, Guillen's family believes the remains belong to their missing loved one, they said at a news conference.

The remains were found in a shallow grave, and search operations were suspended, pending identification, said Tim Miller, the director and founder of Texas EquuSearch.

Another soldier found dead
Authorities discovered the remains about 26 miles from the site where on June 19 investigators found the body of Pvt. 2nd Class Gregory Wedel-Morales, who went missing last year while driving in Killeen.

He was scheduled to be discharged within days of his disappearance, the Army said.
It's unclear whether there's a connection between Guillen and Wedel-Morales, but Army investigators say there is "no credible information" linking the cases.

[..]

Vanessa Guillen told her family she was being sexually harassed.

Foul play is also suspected in Wedel-Morales' death, and the Army is offering a $25,000 reward for information. The Army, League of United Latin American Citizens and Houston rapper Baby Bash have pooled together a $55,000 reward for information on Guillen's disappearance.

Before Guillen went missing, she told her family that she was being sexually harassed by one of her sergeants at Fort Hood, according to a website her family set up to promote the search. The sergeant wasn't identified.

After she went missing in April, her car keys, room key, identification card and wallet were found in an armory room where she was working that day.

"Our hearts are broken. We feel pain, frustration and devastation. This shouldn't have happened. We demand a congressional investigation. We demand the truth," attorney Natalie Khawam said in a statement. "If this could happen to Vanessa, this can happen to any one of our sisters, daughters and mothers. There's no reason why a young beautiful girl who joined the Army, to honorably serve our country, should be in a shallow grave near on our own turf."

Vanessa Guillen: Perps mix and pour wet cement on Fort Hood soldier’s body to hide her [EXCLUSIVE]

July 1, 2020

Guillen, who disappeared on April 22, was called into work on her day off. Someone inside Fort Hood was later spotted by a witness carrying a black 3-foot Pelican case at the armory, where Guillen worked. Guillen was called into work on her day off and was never seen again.

“He was seen really struggling to get it into his vehicle,” Miller said.

Miller added that the suspects tried to burn Guillen and evidence at the crime scene, near Leon River, which is around 26 miles from the base. Miller saw tree limbs scorched above a firepit the suspects used to burn evidence. A half-burned Pelican case was also found at the scene.

“My theory is that she was killed inside the armory. I think she was killed earlier that morning in the armory and somebody came back about 8:30 that night and that’s when somebody spotted him with that Pelican case. She apparently could have been in that Pelican case for 10 hours, inside the armory somewhere.”

Miller added that a civilian noticed a foul odor in the area after recent rain intensified the stench of the remains, and contacted police.

“We should know by the end of the day if all body parts are there,” Miller said, adding that it’s possible only partial remains were found.

A question that remains is whether Guillen was dismembered. The remains are currently at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Guillen’s mother, Gloria, previously told CrimeOnline that her daughter was being sexually harassed by a sergeant on base, who allegedly walked in on her while showering and followed her while she jogged.

Aaron Robinson: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

1. Aaron Robinson, a Fort Hood Soldier, Killed Himself When Officials Were Trying to Locate Him Tuesday Night
Aaron Robinson, a soldier in Fort Hood, had fled the post on Tuesday, KXXV reported, and officials were trying to locate him. When they tried to make contact with him when they found him walking on East Rancier Avenue in Killeen, he shot himself, dying on the scene.

Officials have not identified Robinson as of the time of publication, but the Guillen family attorney Natalie Kawham identified him in a press conference.

[..[

Kawham said in a press conference: “We told command who we believed it was and why. From there the search went quicker…. Last night they issue a BOLO and that person ran off base and shot himself when they came up to him. This is the same person we have been talking about the superior who she was with that day and harassed her.”

Heavy has not yet been able to confirm if two social media sites with Aaron Robinson’s name are linked to the same Robinson who killed himself.

2. Guillen’s Sister Said She Met the Suspect & Thought Something Wasn’t Right About Him
Guillen’s sister, Mayra, said that she has met the suspect once and she thought something wasn’t right about him, KVUE reported.

She said that while they were searching for Guillen, Robinson laughed in her face.

3. A Woman Is in Custody in Connection with Guillen’s Disappearance
A woman who is the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier is also in custody in Bell County Jail in connection with Guillen’s disappearance, KXXV reported. She’s awaiting charges.

According to KVUE, she’s the ex-wife of the suspect, but other media sources say she’s married to a former soldier. Officials have not named her. Kawham also said there was a third suspect in custody, but officials have not confirmed this.

Guillen’s family has been working tirelessly to get to the truth behind her disappearance.

In May, her sister Mayra Guillen wrote: “My situation right now is not it’s best as I am not working and I’m on top of my sister’s case, I will not let this case fall cold, I’m not stopping until I find her. This will also open doors for many of the other soldiers that have gone missing. I’m in the process of hiring a PI as you guys know…. they are super expensive. But I know with God’s help and all of you guys we’ll be able to bring Vanessa BACK HOME! May God bless you.”

4. The Family Attorney Says Robinson Is Believed To Be Connected to Guillen’s Sexual Harassment
Kawham said the family believes Robinson is the man who walked in on Guillen while she was showering, KXXV reported.

The Army’s Criminal Investigation Command has been investigating claims that she was sexually harassed, ABC 7 reported. Col. Ralph Overland, commander of the 3rd Calvary Regiment, said he had opened an investigation.

[..]

Khawam told ABC 7 that Guillen was the victim of two instances of sexual harassment, but she feared retaliation and didn’t report them. In one case, her superior walked in while she was showering. In another, someone made vulgar remarks toward her in Spanish. CNN reported previously that one of the people harassing her was one of her sergeants.

Guillen’s mother, Gloria, told CrimeOnline that the sergeant who walked in on her showering had also followed her while she jogged.

[..]

But the family said that they believe the remains are Guillen’s. Tim Miller, founder of Texas Equusearch, told KWTX that “the search is over.” Miller said that Guillen’s family had asked him to look for answers when authorities weren’t making any progress on the case.

Miller spoke with CrimeOnline and said that the suspects had poured freshly mixed concrete onto Guillen’s body. He said they bought lime, shovels, and plastic bags and then covered the body with rocks. He said there were signs that they had tried to burn her body and evidence near Leon River, about 26 miles from the base.

Miller said that on the day that Guillen disappeared, someone in Fort Hood was seen carrying a 3-foot Pelican case at the armory and was struggling to get it into his vehicle. Guillen had been at Fort Hood that day and wasn’t seen again. Miller said a half-burned Pelican case was found near the Leon River, where human remains were discovered.

Guillen, 20, was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. She was last seen at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in the parking lot of the Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters, 3rd Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, according to an Army press release. She’s a Private First Class in the Army, CNN reported.

Guillen’s sister, Mayra Guillen, said she last spoke with her sister the night before she was last seen. They talked about how Vanessa had planned to buy a new car, Mayra told the Statesman.

Guillen had been working earlier in the day in the armory room. Her car keys, barracks room key, identification card, and wallet were found there. Her car was also still at Fort Hood.

Fort Hood soldier suspected in disappearance of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen kills himself after human remains found

July 1, 2020

AUSTIN, Texas — The remains of missing Fort Hood soldier Pfc. Vanessa Guillen have likely been located, and another soldier suspected of being involved in her disappearance killed himself Wednesday morning as police approached him, Army Criminal Investigation Command announced.

On Tuesday, Army investigators said they believed the human remains found near the Leon River in Bell County were likely related to the search for Guillen, who has been missing for two months. However, a positive identification is still pending.

“We believe that her remains were found. We believe that the suspect killed himself in the morning. And that, unfortunately doesn’t provide us any information about how this happened [or] why a beautiful young soldier is not with us today,” Natalie Khawam, attorney for the Guillen family, said Wednesday during a news conference in Washington, D.C.

Guillen, a 20-year-old small arms repairer with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, has been missing since April 22. She was last seen at work in the armory room of the regiment’s engineer squadron. On that day, Guillen was not scheduled to work, but she was called in by someone, Khawam said.

“We have made significant progress in this tragic situation and are doing everything possible to get to the truth and bring answers to the family of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen,” said Chris Grey, the spokesman for Army CID.

The suspect shot himself at about 1:17 a.m. Wednesday as officers of the U.S. Marshals Service, Killeen Police Department and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force attempted to make contact with him in the 4700 block of East Rancier Avenue in Killeen, the central Texas city just outside the gates of Fort Hood.

Identified as a “junior soldier,” the man had fled the Army base late Tuesday and Army investigators had issued an alert to locate him. When officers approached him, the soldier revealed the weapon and shot himself dead, according to a CID news release.

Another suspect, a civilian, was arrested by the Texas Rangers. The civilian suspect, who was not identified, is the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier and was in custody in the Bell County Jail awaiting charges by civilian authorities, according to CID.

Missing Soldier Vanessa Guillén's Family Claims Coverup: 'Fort Hood Lied To Us, She Didn't Deserve This'

July 1, 2020

FORT HOOD (CBSDFW.COM) – “We were told sexual harassment isn’t illegal. Well guess what — we have a dead person because of sexual harassment.”

Powerful words spoken by Attorney Natalie Kahwam on behalf of the family of missing Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillén laid the ground work for an emotional outcry for justice in the nation’s capital.

While the medical examiner still has not confirmed that partial human remains found near the Leon River in Bell County are Army Pfc. Guillén, her sisters say “everything points to it being her.”

The 20-year-old’s family drove to Washington, D.C. from Texas to demand a Congressional investigation into her disappearance and their assertion that she was sexually assaulted, and ultimately killed by her superior.

That man, fatally shot himself when authorities approached him this week. One of Guillén’s sisters spoke to him before his death, and said he was dismissive and “laughed in her face.”

“They lied to our faces every single day that passed for more than two months. My sister was sexually harassed and no one cared. My sister is a human too. If this can happen to my sister it can happen to anyone else. She deserves justice!” said Vanessa’s sister, Lupe.

The family also alleges the base is covering up for the other two suspects, both of which are currently in custody.

“They falsely accounted for her at 3 p.m. the day she disappeared,” said Kahwam. “What is the cover up for? She was a soldier. Why aren’t they transparent with the family? This was mishandled from the start. It has to be investigated.”
