[FONT=&amp]Sophomore Leila Butler tells ABC13 that at about 7:45 a.m. fire alarms went off and students left their classrooms. She reports some students believe they've heard shots fired. She is currently sheltering with other students and teachers near campus.

An active shooter at a school in southern Texas prompted a lockdown Friday morning, the school district said.

One person has been taken into custody, Santa Fe High School Assistant Principal Cris Richardson told reporters outside the school.

More details on the shooting weren't immediately clear from the message posted to the Santa Fe Independent School District's website.

SFISD District Response to SFHS Active Shooter

This morning an incident occurred at the high school involving an active shooter. The situation is active, but has been contained. There have been confirmed injuries. Details will be released as we receive updated information. Law enforcement will continue to secure the building and initiate all emergency management protocols to release and move students to another location. All other campuses are operating under their regular schedules.

At this time, students from the high school are being transported by SFISD transportation to the Alamo Gym located at 13306 Highway 6. Parents may reunite with their students at this location.

The district will continue to keep you updated as information is available. Safety and communication are our top priorities.

Thus far there are reports of one girl shot after a gunman walked into an art class this morning. Perp appears to have a shotgun.

One parent who drove to the school after learning about the shooting told ABC13 his son was able to run to a nearby gas station but that several students were being taken away on stretchers.

A federal official and a county official close to the situation confirm to KHOU 11 News there are multiple student fatalities at the scene and an officer was also wounded.
