#BREAKING Statement from Munoz attorneys says family "grieving over the great loss that has been suffered" #MarliseMunoz

RIP Marlise..... :rose:

fox reporting hospital has removed Marlise from life support (per family lawyer).

Rest in peace, dear lady...rest with your baby, and dance with angels. You made a difference, and you've earned your Heaven.

My thoughts all along have been that the hospital was just bound by the Texas law, not that anyone was pushing an agenda. Here's their statement saying they will follow the court order:

It's a tragedy and horrible situations for everyone involved and my heart breaks for the family and the caregivers.

To me, it has seemed that the hospital was just protecting itself from possible legal ramifications only to find itself in a worse legal situation (and under the scrutiny of the nation).

That is a really reasonable way to look at this situation, I think. I might even agree with you, if we were still in the first 2 weeks after MM collapsed. The sheer duration of the situation, with the publicity, and clear requests by the husband, make me think this is much more than being worried about the DA bringing some kind of charges against docs/ hospital in a brain dead woman with a 14 week fetus.

But I do agree that now the hospital is taking steps to protect themselves from legal ramifications.

It is just a tragedy, all around. Heaped with misery.

Fort Worth hospital ends life support for Marlise Muñoz

J.R. Labbe, a spokeswoman for John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, issued a statement Sunday that says the hospital "will follow the court order" issued Friday in the case of Marlise Muñoz.

Life support was terminated at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Attorneys for Erick Muñoz, Marlise's husband, did not immediately respond to an emailed message seeking comment.

Full statement from JPS Health Network:

"The past eight weeks have been difficult for the Muñoz family, the caregivers and the entire Tarrant County community, which found itself involved in a sad situation. JPS Health Network has followed what we believed were the demands of a state statute. From the onset, JPS has said its role was not to make nor contest law but to follow it. On Friday, a state district judge ordered the removal of life-sustaining treatment from Marlise Muñoz. The hospital will follow the court order."

RIP Mrs. Munoz and baby. So sad. My thoughts go out to the family.

I'm glad it was announced after the fact. The protestors had the wind knocked outta their sails on that one.

"Our client, Erick Munoz, has authorized us to give notice that today, at approximately 11:30 a.m. central time, in accordance with the order of the 96th District Court of Tarrant County, Texas, issued Friday, January 24, 2014, Marlise Munoz's body was disconnected from 'life support' and released to Mr. Munoz.," Heather King and Jessica Janicek said in a statement. "The Munoz and Machado families will now proceed with the somber task of laying Marlise Munoz's body to rest, and grieving over the great loss that has been suffered. May Marlise Munoz finally rest in peace, and her family find the strength to complete what has been an unbearably long and arduous journey."

RIP -

If ANYTHING good has come out of this already, minimally, it is that folks have become more educated, and discussions that many here have had/will have with their families as to end of life... and ensuring that their health care directives have been done which comply with state legislation where they live. And that legislators across the country are looking at what exists in their states to avoid such a tragedy again.

JMO/MOO and all that....

I wouldn't be surprised if the entire family isn't suffering from PTSD. They have been forced to endure the unendurable in a very public way.

God bless Marlise, the baby, Erick & all the Munoz & Machado families & give them peace.

I'm really glad that MM and her fetus won't (apparently) be subjected to an autopsy. Reports say that her body was released to her husband.

If there is no autopsy, there is no risk of that falling into the hands of the public. This family has suffered enough. Enough.

RIP Beautiful girl. I hope your death wasn't in vain, and laws are changed. Prayers, love and light to your family.

Whew. Relieved and saddened. I hope this family can be in peace now and hopefully begin to heal. The reality of her loss will likely now set in. That hurts my heart.

The family issued a statement today confirming that she had been removed from life-support.
"The Munoz and Machado families will now proceed with the somber task of laying Marlise Munoz's body to rest, and grieving over the great loss that has been suffered," read a statement from the family's attorneys.

After the ruling, Munoz's husband, Eric, stood with his lawyers as they made a statement on his behalf.
"This is the decision we sought. There is nothing happy about today. This was a sad situation all the way around," Munoz family attorney Heather King told reporters after the ruling. "We are relieved that Eric Munoz can now move forward with the process of burying his wife."
When asked for his response to the ruling an emotional Eric Munoz could barely answer "No comment." http://gma.yahoo.com/pregnant-texas-woman-taken-off-life-support-195417004.html

From all that I hear & see, Erick has a good support system at work & from a large part of the community. With the horrors that this family has been subjected to for such a prolonged time, IMO they may also need some professional counseling. I hope a qualified mental health doctor or counselor would offer their services free of charge. This poor family has been to hell & back. It has been nothing but a version of the Holocaust.

I disagree. I think that fetus should be autopsied. But that is just my opinion.. Nothing more.
