10/10/22 Monday, Jury Selection Day 1: Jury selected. Trial has been pushed back. Not known when it will resume. A jury was assembled, but fell through. There are family members & witnesses from all over the country & they have to schedule the two week trial to accommodate all of them. 3/12/23 Update: Jury selection/Trial to start on 5/2/23.
5/2/23 Tuesday, Trail Day 1: State witnesses: two witnesses were called to set the timeline – no names given.
5/3/23 Wednesday, Trial Day 2: State witness: Bob Currie, the manager & owner of Corvette Concepts, a League City auto-repair shop, at the time of the murders.
Defense attorney Kevin Rekoff said this was a complete lie (from Curries testimony) & asked Judge Jeth Jones for a mistrial, as Currie was warned not to mention “extraneous offenses,” which could prejudice the jury. “Although it is not a violent crime, forgery & fraud would indicate dishonesty & moral turpitude to the jury,” Rekoff said. Rekoff’s motion for a mistrial was denied.

May 4, 2023
The former owner of Corvette Concepts remained on the stand Thursday as defense attorney Kevin Rekoff grilled him about his discovery of the brutal crime scene and about what he might have gained from one victim’s death in the 1983 triple homicide, and implied he might be the killer.
The trail of Jesse Kersh, 64, of Spring, saw testimony from Bob Currie, former owner and manager of the League City auto-repair shop that was the scene of one of the most infamous cold cases in Galveston County history.

May 16, 2023

An argument over shoddy repair work was the motive of a 1983 triple-homicide known as the Corvette Concepts killing, an FBI agent testified Monday.

The murder trial of Jesse Dean Kersh, 64, of Spring, resumed with FBI Agent Richard Rennison testifying League City Police Department’s three detectives at the time did a poor job of the initial investigation because they were not well trained and didn’t examine the hands or arms of any of the people taken in for questioning.
[.....]
The prosecution argues that on the night of Nov. 2, 1983, a couple picked up a corvette from the auto shop, but realized on the way home it was not repaired correctly.

Wilburn questioned Kersh about the work and he “snapped,” First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Petroff said.
[.....]
The trial is expected to last through the rest of this week.

I was just looking at what his bond is... 150K for 3 counts of 1st degree murder???

@Seattle1 - what does the court site have? That has to be Wrong?! on what I have!

It would be correct. It may surprize you, but Texas has
(or had) statutory laws and case law against excessive
bail;
(although that has been wound back somewhat with
recent changes in bail law in the last few years;
)

Jesse Dean Kersh was charged back in 2016 and as
this January 30, 2016 Houston Chronicle article on his
arrest notes, he has "lived a quiet life for 32 years until
he was arrested" and "has had only a couple of run-ins
with the law, for drunken driving and public intoxication
in the 1980s, records show."

Since that 2016 arrest, there have been an unusual
number of postponements ordered in this trial (even
subtracting the year and a half for COVID), the effect
of which must make it difficult for JDK to continue to
pay for his defence (never mind any appeal after a
trial), and you only need refer to the preceding two
pages of this thread to experience the strange game
of hide and seek regarding public notices (or ongoing
absence of them) regarding this case on the
Galveston County Court website.

(There are other eyebrow-raising things about this
trial which would not be allowed to be posted here (for
example, former prison officer and recently retired
Judge John Ellisor, formerly hearing this case, was sued
years back in an interesting case against him[Judge Ellisor]
[findable online])).

The prosecution case is problematic. They have DNA
from victim's Beth Wilburn's fingernails which does not
match
JDK's (and is from an unknown person) but the
prosecution (mis?)represents this as 'not excluding' JDK.
They have an interview where JDK allegedly denies
owning a .22 Long Rifle firearm (..the exact wording
of the interview is not available, so, hey, it's possible
that that form of question could easily have been open
to misinterpretation).
The only thing the prosecution has is the testimony of
a witness, Darryl Krogman, that was obtained back in
2006 by FBI Agent Richard Rennison (that is made clear
in the Probable Cause Affidavit, found here);

Under cross-examination during this trial by Defence
Counsel Kevin Reckoff, FBI Agent Richard Rennison
(who is also a former League City TX police officer)
stated "he had no recollection of what was being
asked" despite, as Rekoff asserted, "even though you
knew I’d ask you about it?"

---

Aspects of this prosecution are questionable. As Mr Leo
Shipman said in the Houston Chronicle article I specified
in the above 2nd paragraph, "I never knew him to hurt
anybody"..."Why did it take so long to pin this on him?"
