I live in the neighborhood. Shell is located next to a dry cleaner, then a small plaza with a restaurant and a few other business. Across San Felipe are the rear yards of residential properties, most with high walls between the very narrow sidewalk and the street. Some have cameras. Across Willowick is also residential. Behind the Shell is a 1960s condo tower. If you go west from the Shell across some railroad tracks, that's where the search is being conducted. No idea as to why that area. You don't really see teens wandering around here--especially after dark i(t's very dark on San Felipe at night). I feel so bad for the family...

Thanks for the insight/details of the area. It's nice to have locals who are really familiar with the area and welcome to Websleuths!

I’m seeing it says he was last seen on Westheimer. This road is heavily travelled. I also think that area was heavily impacted by flooding.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A big effort is underway to find 17-year-old Wilson Stratton.

The teen is described as young, healthy and social, but his father says there are several things that worry him: No digital footprint of Wilson and his struggle with a recent death in his family.

[SBM]

‘Wilson, you are loved than more people than you can possibly know,’ said Stan Stratton.

A father's love and heartbreak brought dozens of people together Monday morning to search for Wilson.

He was last seen January 19 at around 10:30 p.m. on surveillance video at a gas station on San Felipe and Willowick, just blocks from his home.

His father thought Wilson was in bed.

Wilson didn't have a cell phone and has made no credit card transactions.

‘It's not a good sign. We've been involved in 1,700 plus cases. And I don't like where we are right now with no sightings, no calls, no communication,’ said Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch.

Wilson's father says his son was struggling emotionally with his mother's death. The teenager was seeing a therapist and was on medication.

The teen has left his home before but always returned.

[SBM]

Crews spent Monday morning on boats, kayaks and ATVs searching the Bayou and surrounding areas.

It could be a long road. Still, this father holds on to hope.

’Somebody, somewhere please help us bring this young man home.’

Feeling so sad for Wilson right now ....

Never mind I obviously won’t post here but the street the family lives on is a pretty expensive one. I see the legitimate concern for it possibly being for ransom.

It looks like his mom had a Facebook page. It looks like a very loving family.

Minor if any flooding impact anywhere in the River Oaks area. There's an Exxon on the corner of Westheimer and Willowick--some media were reporting yesterday that that's where he was last seen. But it was really at the Shell--one very long "block" (past Looscan library, River Oaks Baptist School and the condo building) away at Willowick and San Felipe.

I think I was thinking of Braeswood area. My mistake.

I really pray he has not taken his own life. I pray for this family and pray for Wilson to come home safe.

Map:
TES search staging area (approximate; “E. Briar Hollow Dr., just north of the 4200 block of San Felipe St.”)
>
Shell (“Westheimer Road and Willowick Road”)
>His home

So it appears TES is focusing in the area very close to where Wilson was last seen.

I’m sorry but what?!?!?! Lol I am part of an oil family. My husband has a more advanced position and works in Houston for one of the bigger companies. While yes there is certainly a lot of wheeling and dealing in this industry, corruption isn’t really prevalent at all. It is all so tightly guarded and regulated it would make that almost impossible.

Are you also very familiar with the commissions that oversee and regulate the industry? Do a basic Google search for corruption & oil industry. It's prevalent and far more than just wheeling and dealing and the things you find online highlight only a very small fraction of questionable deals and practices that are known about.

Fingers Crossed

I would imagine if Equusearch is in the area they are searching along Buffalo Bayou and the wooded areas. Although it is a very populated area, there are still pockets of woods and bayous all over. When I was involved with a SAR team, we would use that area to train. You can park in a residential area and walk into the woods and not be visible.

Great news! Hoping for the best and that Wilson is found safe and sound. Thank you for your help and concern, tbum. Great websleuthers on this thread. Good to see.

If Wilson is dealing with a great deal of loss, it seems to me, it's very natural to want a change of scene to feel like you're getting out from the midst of it and reminders of grief, to want distraction, or to want to mourn on your own, at that age, be away from convention and daily expectations, to just want space to work things out. He's been away before and will hopefully be found.

This is great news! Hopefully they will be able to continue to track him from yesterday's whereabouts to where he is today/now!

"Stan Stratton, Wilson’s dad, told KPRC that he was away the night Wilson went missing. Wilson lost his mom a few years back, and someone was at the house to check on Wilson the night he disappeared. Wilson had been in his bed, but minutes later, he was gone.

Wilson was last spotted at a nearby convenience store at a Shell gas station at the corner of Willowbend and San Felipe at 10:22 p.m. He was wearing a white and green fishing shirt, gray shorts and white tennis shoes. He bought a sandwich and a drink, then walked west. No one has heard from him since. He did not have a cellphone, a bag or extra money. Authorities say there is nothing that would indicate that he was planning to run away.
“In the beginning, things were kept kind of quiet because we thought he was possibly being held for ransom,” said Tim Miller, founder of Texas EquuSearch. “But none of those calls came in, so we decided it was time to do a search."

Father stated in the linked article that his son is on medication and has been in therapy and notes he has been deeply impacted by the loss of his mom. He also said that he son has left the home before"impulsively" but always returned.

More info here including some about the family connections. :https://www.click2houston.com/news/texas-equusearch-searches-for-17-year-old-from-west-houston

I found that is mother passed 12/14. Is this the death he is having trouble with? IMO. I hope that sighting is legit. Come home Wilson.
