So I'm interested, how did you? (assuming it was before the neighbours name was mentioned)

Thursday night I was lying in bed when the name Lilian popped in to my head, I'd just been thinking about Mr Lytton, so I straight away sat up, got online and did some digging then eventually checked the electoral registers and then the databases I use at work - And when I saw the sale in 2006 was convinced I was right, plus there was no forwarding address - So yes long before the media printed anything

I'd been looking earlier in the day for David Lyttons in london, but halfheartedly, I guess thats why I suddenly thought of the road name that night, must have seen it earlier in the day it was only till I did more digging that night that it seemed more plausible

Respectful speculation..
When DL stopped in at an arcade, had wondered if he had a connection to gambling, now wonder if he knew Saddleworth, through bets made elsewhere, perhaps concerning boxing.
Did he live a solitary life because he felt safer that way?

Curious now to watch this film.

A video of him in 1994 here: http://news.sky.com/story/mans-death-on-saddleworth-moor-remains-a-mystery-10747191

He had apparently also worked as a Tube driver, and was very much a loner according to a neighbour.

So they think he may have been a tube driver, a taxi driver and maybe a croupier.

How sad this story is turning out to be. The gentlemen who invited him didn't really expect he would accept. But he did accept the invite and actually looks like he was enjoying himself, dancing and smiling.

I'm getting more intrigued by Davids story even though he wanted to remain totally anonymous.

Maybe Mr Lytton felt most comfortable just moving around transit hubs, surrounded by people, yet at a distance from them imo.

I suppose the police might know that now they have a name to cross reference. They commented that he'd taken "positive action to not be in possession of certain items of property" which I guess is his passport, wallet etc.

I wonder what happened to his passport and wallet.

Cost of living in Lahore - roughly £250 - £450 rent per month. If he had access to all the proceeds from the house sale he could have lived very comfortably there for a decade.

It's also possible that he could have earned money, officially or otherwise, teaching English.

jslk, if you can (hope he is still with us) out of interest ask your dad if there was/is much of a Pakistani community in Streatham, he lived near Streatham Vale Park. I've been looking at emigration figures for UK to Pakistan but struggling to find out how many white British moved there. It wouldn't have been work-related as gambling is illegal over there.

And old friend of my partner's married a British Pakistani man in Yorkshire many years ago and used to visit the country regularly with her husband. When he died, she continued to go out there and spent 6 months a year in Pakistan teaching English privately and in schools. She is in her late 60s and has now returned to the UK permanently.

Tube drivers are pretty well paid - currently between £50k and £60k, so in his time he probably managed to put some savings aside. He would also have had a decent pension so was probably pretty comfortably off in retirement. It's likely that he could well have afforded to buy a decent retirement property in Spain or Portugal so there must have been something that specifically drew him to Pakistan.

Am I allowed to quip that it's unusual for a Brit to be an illegal immigrant in Pakistan?

Do we yet know why Saddleworth? Do we yet know why the darknesses of the human heart?

Mr Lytton's date of birth has been published, but still no uk birth record that could match with him

Feel very sad after seeing the footage of him at that wedding and hearing his neighbours speak about him, seems like such a private but lovely man

How strange, I've checked again and there were 2 Lyttons born in London in 1948 - Michael G and Susan. I did wonder if he was born Michael but the dates don't match (Michael being registered in the first quarter of the year, David being born in April). And I doubt he was ever a Susan.

Which leaves two options - his name has been changed, or there's a spelling mistake somewhere.

My friend Adam freaked out when he couldn't find his birth record and asked me for help. Eventually we found it, spelled Adan. However, I've checked a few variations and nada. Weird.

I too have checked various name variations - I can only assume Mr Lytton was either born abroad or he was adopted, I am leaning towards adoption at the moment, it would very much explain a lot

Wondering f the lack of birth records ties in somehow with him not having his id when found?
Noting that his left ear " bend " remained the same over the years.imo.
