Is he or isn't he?
Today was the day for the closing speeches, there is no mention that RF will continue tomorrow.

We'd know if he was, there's a definite "I rest my case" type of phrase used to signal the end of summing up.

Just catching up but I'm really ticked that Russell-Flint can't bring himself to mention Nick and Joe!

He has made one - brief - reference to them

“You might say ‘The Joe and Nick story, interesting, but how can we prove it’s true?’
“It isn’t for Mr Stewart to have to prove anything. The burden of proof is on the prosecution, to make us sure.

So in effect, he is saying IS can produce this fable as his defence, but it is not up to the Defence to explain or promote the story.
Or in other words - please don't ask me to talk about them any further

I don't think he's finished.

I'm not sure ... what do you think RF could possibly say??

Something positive about Zopiclone and the witnesses?
Witnesses weren't strong to begin with.
Any mention of Zopiclone will make things worse IMHO.

Trimmer was razor sharp re Zopiclone:

“Why would you bother talking to your mother about feeling very sleepy. if at the same time you are taking increasing concentrations of sleeping tablets? Bizarre nonsense. “

and:

“And zopiclone is central to the prosecution allegation against him. How can you forget that Helen Bailey searched for it, told him he couldn’t take it, took it off him, and said she’d take it herself?

“How does the defendant forget that?

“He said the reason zopiclone wasn’t in the defence case statement was because he didn’t think it was relevant.”

:shush: :worms:

His parents didn't support him. Now surely they would have made good witnesses for the suicide threats..

[h=3]'How can the murder of Helen be financially motivated if Stewart only needed to wait a couple of months and he could have been £1.5million or so better off?'[/h]“OMG Just catching up and am so annoyed that the defence have been able to use that complete lie.

The insurance policy Helen had meant he'd be no better off waiting till they were married. How are they allowed to pretend that he'd be better off?

As what has been said by defence is not correct, surely this is a serious matter?
Was he not paying attention, misunderstood the financial arrangements?
I'm astonished that this has been allowed without interruption actually ! Is no one in the legal team following the facts !

I came to this case late. I was aware of Helen being missing and kind of half followed the story on the radio. When I first started reading here, I thought that the murder was probably an accident or something that had got out of hand.

I never entertained the notion that it could have been planned but then I started reading. The zopiclone business, the items found in the cess pit, indeed the very idea of the cess pit.

Then the NiJoDa poppycock. I have read about this case obsessively and believe IS to be a very wicked man. If he is found guilty, as he surely must be, then I hope that his first wife's death is looked at again

How can he have done this to those two boys???
.
I hope that Helen's family and loved ones can have peace to come to terms somehow with this horrible matter, especially her dear mother.

What a nasty, evil man IS is :jail:

His parents didn't support him. Now surely they would have made good witnesses for the suicide threats..

I wonder if they (or anyone else) has written "Dear Judge" letters for the sentencing (one hopes-the thought he might be free to go back to Royston is too appalling) ?

Bear in mind that the jury were already asking questions about this particular ^ topic on the day of the financial evidence( 31stJan)

Proceedings have now resumed in court.
The judge briefly deals with a couple of questions from the jury concerning Helen Bailey’s assets.
He confirms that Stewart would have received the £235,000 pension fund and £1.2million life insurance pay out, separate to the conditions of her will.

The judge wouldn't be able to read them.

Before Flint gets going tomorrow I'm going to re-post the whole paste of Trimmer's closing because I think, when read altogether again, it's really very strong, regardless of some elements we would have liked to have been emphasised.

Thanks! I hoped someone was on to that.
And of course there still may be the odd snippet that didn't get through to us.

What you mean I've been waiting on the line:phone::cursing: for nothing?

slightly off this current topic^ but going back to Flint's assertion that IS had as much liquid cash as HB and my earlier post about "play money", I did re-find that quote again, last week's evidence:

The Bassingbourn house didn’t sell quickly, I sold it for £520,000 after selling expenses. “I gave Helen £470,000, Helen wanted me to keep £50,000 and described it as ‘play money’ to spend.”
Hmmmm...I wonder if she really said that!

and then compare the language we had from the forensic auditor

The investigator confirms that the accounts he has managed to find for Stewart totalled around £162,000 in cash.
He also had a total monthly net income of £1,933.
Ok that's court reporting but it alludes to difficulty of tracking all his accounts. Let's assume this murdering fraudster xxxx hasn't told Helen he has more salted away?

Then look at the ring discussion, in his words , play again :
“The ring had to be special because Helen has very skinny fingers. “I had joked about discount but I didn’t know she’d sent that email [to ask for discount]. “Helen didn’t like bartering, but I did. “The problem with the ring was it was beautiful and you see Helen’s eyes light up when she tried it on, but the others looked like costume jewellery. “You could see the ring was quality, it was a different thing already. “Helen didn’t want to get it, she said ‘I can’t walk around with a ring on my finger costing that much, I won’t feel happy about it’. “I said I had money to spend on her to play with, I said this was a golden opportunity. “She said she was going to put it off until the wedding venue was booked. “The weekend before Helen was taken, she finally agreed. She was going to go for it.”

ETA - even that last extract is contradictory : " I said I had money to spend on her to play with". He's informing her, but isn't she already s'posed to know he has "play money". ( Even his phraseology makes me want to heave but then I a am very biased.)

Hello, hello, is that Judge Bright?

Yees. Who is this?

It's Tortoise from WS.

Oh yes.

Tell that *advertiser censored**ing ********* in the courtroom that he's talking **********. That is all. Good day.

There's nothing in any other news sources Cherwell. it's just Cambridge's pasted into word, which I did whilst I was reading it today - so nothing new I'm afraid.

Feck that Tortoise - at least pretend to be IS from Merry Widows! ( Doubt he has a very deep voice.)

ETA: If anyone's going to get into trouble for calling Mr B let it be the craven, fork tongued one from Bedford HMP
