Two conflicting media reports: the first link below is the only media report I have seen stating either parent was there. I think the may have mistaken someone for the mother. JMO

The girl was remanded in custody by York magistrates and is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Friday.
Katie Rough's mother and other family members listened carefully inside court one as a lawyer spoke on behalf of the accused teenager.

The girl, who was wearing an oversized grey sweatshirt and has long brown hair, will appear before Leeds Crown Court on Friday.


Katie's parents, Alison and Paul, were not present but Paul's parents, Steve and Sharon Rough, walked into court arm-in-arm. Katie's half-sister Bethany Smith and half-brother Jack Hudson, were also present.

Leeds Crown Court on Friday.
The 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via video link at Leeds Crown Court.

The defendant, who appeared from a different room wearing a purple sweatshirt and black trousers, sat with a solicitor and did not speak during the five-minute hearing.

Members of Katie's devastated family attended the hearing and sat on the jury bench to listen to the proceedings.

I am not seeing any other arrests. I think it was one troubled young teen that is responsible.

Do we know that she has no remorse? Age 15 is still very young. She might not yet be able to fully grasp the consequences of her actions. I do think that mental illness probably played a large role, though.

It breaks my heart. I cannot imagine what the family must be going through right now. I hope they receive some answers and closure eventually, though neither will bring poor little Katie back.

No details have been disclosed about the act, devious or otherwise, and there is no evidence that she has shown no remorse.
If anything, the indications are to the contrary: she sought help, called the police, and was described as "distraught".

I have also wondered this. Perhaps she is no longer present?

This poor family. I cannot even imagine what they are going through.

I have been following cases on here for years, and can't remember any where the parents (and other family members for that matter) of the accused have been interviewed or named, or played any major role in reporting in msm. Not saying it doesn't happen but it's so rare that I don't remember them. They usually want to be left out of the limelight.

The judge has ordered that the accused may not be named.
So that means that the parents and other family members cannot be named, as this could identify the accused.

The parents of Katie Rough made an emotional appeal on Facebook. They have revealed matching tattoos and asked anyone with any information about Katie's death to come forward.
