Why did Relowicz return to Oak Road for a third time?

Relowicz is now being asked about his third visit to the playing fields, in the early hours of February 1.

He arrived there at 2.25am and left a little after 2.30am.

Relowicz told the jury earlier this week that he “went back and stopped and looked to see whether Libby had been into a yard or was laying on the ground.”

When he was interviewed by officers, Relowicz said on several occasions that he had gone back to see “if she was laying on the ground.”

Mr Wright says the account given to the jury is that he left her alive and well, standing on Oak Road.

Relowicz said: “I left Libby Squire on Oak Road and went home and went back there because I was worried she could fall over as she had fallen over on many occasions previously. It was cold, minus two and a half degrees so she could have frozen or something.”

Mr Wright said: “Did you go back, Mr Relowicz, to make sure you had cleaned up after yourself when you had raped and killed her?

“Or were you going back to move her body where you left it on the ground and to put it into the river?”

Relowicz has answered “no” to both questions.

Relowicz explains why he lied about his clothing

In his interview, Relowicz told officers he did not remember what bottoms he was wearing at the time, but they were full length. He then said he was wearing tracksuit bottoms.

Relowicz has now confirmed this was not true.

He has been asked why he was lying about his trousers.

Relowicz said: “Because I didn’t want to tell the police I had had sex with her. Because they were dirty.”

Mr Wright has asked whether Relowicz was “worried” the trousers would be found and about what would be found on them.

Relowicz said he “did not even think” about the trousers. He said: “I just shoved them in with the dirty clothing and my wife just washed them the following day.”

Mr Wright said: “Did you take them off to wash because you were wearing them when you raped and attacked Libby Squire? Is that the reason why, when you got home you got straight into the bath and washed yourself?”

Relowicz has denied this.

Well that’s frustrating as if they were filthy and covered in mud and his wife washed them the next day she would know. Likewise if he had washed them himself his wife would also know- yet there is no testimony that we have heard of from his wife.

So that is over 5 minutes, not the 4 minutes we had previously heard.

I’m relieved that cross examination is continuing, I had a horrible feeling that Wednesday might have been the conclusion;there are still so many questions & inconsistencies that I’d feared either weren’t reported or addressed.

Did he not say previously he had washed his own clothes that night or am I mistaken?

Relowicz admits lying about getting not getting out of his car

In police interviews, Relowicz said he never got out of his car when he returned to Oak Road a third time.

But during the trial he described getting out of his car.

Mr Wright said: “What was it about, not only returning to Oak Road, but stopping your car and getting out of it that you wanted to lie to police about?”

Relowicz said: “I didn’t want to hide it, I just simply didn’t remember it at the time. I was only there for a moment.”

Mr Wright said: “You didn’t have any difficulty remembering it on Monday. The police were asking you if your car was constantly moving. This was just a few days later, you told the police that you had not stopped your car and you had not got out of it.”

Relowicz has confirmed it was a lie. He has been asked to explain why he lied.

Relowicz said: “I told the police that I was on Oak Road on a second occasion but I didn’t tell them I stopped because I didn’t remember and I lied that I didn’t stop.”

Mr Wright said: “If you’re telling the truth about having consensual sex with that girl and not attacking her, what reason did you have to lie about getting out of your car for four and a half minutes?”

Relowicz said: “I just didn’t want police to know I had sex with her, I didn’t want my wife to find out and I didn’t want police to know because I didn’t know if it was illegal or not.”

Ohhhh possibly!!!!, but either one could be a lie- his wife would know the truth. I’m not trying to defend that comment- but I know many a partner/husband who would say they washed their clothes, when in actual fact it was their wife/partner- not as a lie, it’s just a natural thing to say I when talking about something like that.

Relowicz accused of returning to 'clean up' after killing Libby

Mr Wright said: “You were lying because you got out of your car to make sure you had cleaned up after what you had done to Libby Squire.

“It wasn’t just raping her that you knew you’d done was it? Because if you’d just raped her you wouldn’t dare to go back. Because you would have expected the police to be there. You knew it was safe to go back because she wasn’t going to tell anybody what you’d done, because you’d killed her hadn’t you?

“And that’s why, Mr Relowicz, you didn’t have a phone with you that night so you couldn’t be tracked. That’s why you changed your trousers and made sure they were washed, and made sure you had a bath. Is that why you were seen cleaning your car Mr Relowicz?”

Relowicz has denied the claims.

I'm glad they've made that point. Why would you go back two hours after raping someone knowing that they would have had time to report it?

Wonder if his wife queried why he was having a bath in the early hours when they had young children sleeping? I know some children are sound sleepers but I wouldnt have made unnecessary noise at that time of night with youngsters in bed.

CCTV cameras forced Relowicz to kill - prosecution claims

Mr Wright said: “Having raped that girl, you knew that if she came forward and complained of rape, that camera would have picked you up. And that’s why you killed her didn’t you? Because the problem you had, the problem you couldn’t control meant you wanted to keep on offending.

“You raped her and you killed her and that’s why when you went into the police station you missed out any consensual activity because you knew there was no chance that girl was going to walk in and accuse you of rape. Because you knew she was dead and in the river. That’s the truth isn’t it?”

Relowicz said: “This is not true.”

The Cross examination has now finished and there are no further questions from the defence team of the judge.

I can't see him changing his story now. He is going to keep up the denial.

Sarahjo you make a fair point re

"He might not actually have locked the car, habit makes me press my keys as I go to open the door even if I’ve not locked it.."

I can't recall if the CCTV picked up flashing lights signifying the locking of the car on its arrival but this would be relevant to my point. As would, how far away from the green shed does he say he parked...the more proximate he parked to it the more improbable he'd be locking the car or, as you suggest fiddling with the keys as a matter of habit on his return to it. I imagine and certainly hope the prosecution have considered this, although it's too fine a detail to be reported by HullLive.
