A large-scale operation is under way near Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire, with officers, dog units and a helicopter all dispatched yesterday at around 11am and a section close to an entrance to the park taped off. Police remain in attendance at both sites today.

In an update tonight, police confirmed they were treating the death as suspicious and said they were supporting Marelle’s family.

It’s understood the mum-to-be lived in the property with fiancé Yates - who was yesterday the focus of a missing person search.

I wonder what has got them so interested in that area... Possible they've found a vehicle linked to them there I wonder? Looks like a pretty tough area to search from photos, I'd be surprised if he's still there unless he's deceased.

Police update:

Detective Superintendent Nicola Kilbane said: “A murder investigation is ongoing in relation to the death of Marelle Sturrock, 35, at Jura Street in Glasgow.

“Officers attended her home address shortly after 8.40am on Tuesday, 25 April and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Marelle was 29 weeks pregnant and I can confirm that sadly her unborn baby did not survive.

“Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, along with everyone affected by this tragedy. We are providing her family with specialist support at this incredibly difficult time.

“Her partner David Yates is wanted in connection with Marelle’s death. At this time we have no information to suggest anyone else has been involved.

“His vehicle, a white Seat Ateca, was found at Mugdock Country Park on Tuesday and an extensive search has been ongoing in the area since.

“The last confirmed sighting of David was on Sunday evening shortly after 8pm. His subsequent movements are unknown after his vehicle was left at Mugdock Country Park but there is nothing to suggest he has left the area. We will keep an open mind on this as we continue to search the area.

“A visible police presence will remain at both Jura Street and Mugdock Country Park as our investigation continues.

“There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public. However, I would urge anyone with information or concerns to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of 25 April or speak to any of our officers.

“Finally, I would like once again to express our condolences to Marelle’s family and everyone affected by this tragic incident.”

Marelle Sturrock death: Police Scotland search for suspect believed to be fiance

Police Scotland said her death was being treated as suspicious and officers were still searching Mugdock country park on Thursday morning for a man believed to be her fiance, David Yates.

The headteacher at Sandwood primary school in Glasgow where Sturrock worked said the school community was “devastated”.

Fiona Donnelly said: “Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school. We will all miss her so much. She was a lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.

“Marelle used her artistic talents across the school and was our music champion who has been a key player in the success of our school choirs, with one of her classes going to see her on stage at the King’s [theatre] in one of her many acting roles outside of school.

“We are a school community in mourning and are devastated by the tragic news of her death and pass on our deepest condolences to her family and friends as we all come to terms with our loss.”

Parents at the school were told of the death in a letter on Wednesday and education psychologists are on hand to support pupils.

This is heartbreaking, it's one thing to kill a partner but knowing that will end your unborn child's life too is something else. I suspect DY has gone somewhere to off himself and will be found in an isolated area MOO

I wonder if it's significant that the colleagues called the police when she didn't turn up for work, and the police made a quick response. I'm not sure my local police would rush round if I didn't arrive at work. RIP Marelle and her little one.

This is just the worst situation, can’t stop thinking of Marelles family and friends looking forward to a new baby coming to be faced with the loss of both her and her unborn child and those poor school children and staff, everyone knows how teachers are such a wonderful influence, so so sad

I’m guessing Marelle didn’t turn up to work on Monday either? - I guess the school called the police on Tuesday morning once she didn’t turn up for a second day.

Just MOO I can’t see a school notifying the police by 8:40am on the first day of absence

Probably more to come out as to why there was a police response.

The attack might well have happened on Sunday when the partner was last seen.
