Over two weeks ago, a 32-year-old man seemingly disappeared into thin air while travelling through Walthamstow, leaving his concerned family desperate for information. Nathan Cole was due to attend a gig in Camden but boarded a bus in the direction of Chingford and has not been seen since.

The last confirmed sighting of him was at 11.17pm on a residential street heading towards the direction of the River Lea. His phone however was last active at 00.41am in the vicinity of a former IKEA store in Edmonton, although police are unsure if it was in his possession at the time.

The former Bath University graduate has been described as a sociable character, but his family have stressed that his disappearance is completely unprecedented. While it was not unusual for him to enjoy a Saturday night out with friends, he has never lost contact with his loved ones or failed to return home.

MyLondon has set out a timeline of Nathan’s last movements, as the search for him enters its third week.

Nathan’s family outside Walthamstow Marshes, his last known whereabouts

''On Saturday, 4th February, police patrolled the area Nathan was last seen from 10pm to 1am in the hopes of finding someone who remembered him from that night.''

''Nathan has lived with his mother Niuska for the last half a year and she told the Echo that he always abides by the time he tells her to expect him home.

She said: “I think personally that someone has taken him somewhere. He is always very trusting with people, although if someone was nasty and he’d had a few drinks he would not like that.''

''While police do not know for certain that Nathan was separated from his things, they are asking people to come forward if they have found a black rucksack, which likely contained a mini drone and controller.

It may also have had a pouch of American Spirit tobacco with the labels in Spanish, a book, the Fosters beer he purchased and the case for his glasses. It is likely that he was wearing the glasses in the below picture at the time of his disappearance. ''

''Nathan also may have had with him a pair of black earphones, a pair of gloves with the fingers cut off and a slightly worn black leather wallet, containing a Nectar card in his name. ''

I’m surprised he’d take a rucksack containing a mini drone and controller out with him if he was going to a club. He’d have to check the bag into the cloakroom etc. which feels like a hassle. I can’t work out if he’s just adjusting his scarf on the tube footage or hitching the bag up because it’s heavy, but if the latter, again I’m not sure why he’d take a heavy bag out with him to a club. Maybe he was planning to stay with a friend after the club and needed to have some of his belongings with him for the next few days.
It’s very worrying that he hasn’t been in touch with his family nor withdrawn cash/used bank card etc. I feel so sorry for the family - they must be beside themselves.

he brother of a 32-year-old from Kensington who has been missing for two-and-a-half weeks has spoken of his family’s “agonising” wait for answers.

“Outgoing” Nathan Cole has not been seen since Saturday, January 21, when he was last captured on CCTV in Walthamstow shortly after 11.15pm.

He had been planning to attend a gig at Koko in Camden that night, but following an apparent change of plans instead travelled to northeast London.

More than 100 police officers have since been involved in a huge search spanning around 12sq m of wetland, but 17 days after his disappearance his heartbroken family still have “no idea what has happened to him”.

The family of a young man who vanished into thin air have released vital new information which could lead to his discovery. Former Bath University graduate Nathan Cole, 32, was due to watch a gig in Camden but boarded a bus in the direction of Chingford and has not been seen since.

The last confirmed sighting of him was on Banbury Road in Walthamstow at 11.17pm on Saturday January 21 heading towards the River Lea. His phone was last active around 1am on January 22 near a former IKEA store in Edmonton, although police are unsure if he still had it on him. His family say his disappearance is "completely agonising" and are calling for anyone with information to step forward.

Nathan's family have released a list of items they believe were in Nathan’s possession when he went missing. These are black headphones, a DJI Mini 2 drone with remote, a black shiny leather wallet, gloves which have the fingers cut off, and glasses (as seen in image of Nathan). Officers are encouraging anyone who may have seen or found these items to contact them.

“At this moment in time we honestly have no idea what’s happened to him,” his brother Luke Cole, 27, told the Standard on Tuesday.

It’s been quite agonising really. The whole process has been like something you see on TV - it’s not really like something that happens in real life.”

The eldest of five siblings, Nathan lives with his mum in Kensington. But his family contacted police on Monday, January 23, when he failed to return home.

“We found it strange that it came to Sunday and he hadn’t come home,” said his brother.

“He would always come back on Sunday to prepare for work, so when we woke up on Monday and he hadn’t arrived back we knew something was very wrong.”

[...]

So it sounds like Nathan often went out and stayed with friends or a friend until the next day (Sunday) then returned home in readiness for work the next day. I keep hoping he’s with a new lover and for whatever reason they need to keep it a secret for the time being and are oblivious to the drama unfolding in the real world (and why wouldn’t they be, given the scant media coverage). But why wouldn’t he have phoned work to say he wasn’t able to come in (sick or whatever)? I know this sounds like a delusional theory, but I’ve had first hand experience of something similar where the guy vanished for a week because he was staying with his new love whose partner was working abroad.

Only a couple of hours ago I was musing with a friend about how some misper cases attract more media attention than others, despite the vast number of people who go missing in the UK every year. It boggles the mind. As I'm not local to London I mapped out Nathan's known route using info provided so far. I hate to say it but young male + so much water = I hope I am wrong and he walks through the door very soon.

A reconstruction has been staged and police divers have undertaken a fresh search as the hunt for a man missing for more than two weeks intensifies.

Nathan Cole, 32, from Notting Hill, was last seen walking along Banbury Road in Walthamstow, east London, at 23:17 GMT on 21 January towards the River Lea.

Officers have been searching Tottenham Marshes and his brother has taken part in a reconstruction filmed by the BBC.

His sister Hannah said the family was "perplexed".

She said: "It's completely heart-breaking not knowing whether he's alive and whether he's going to walk through the door or we're going to get that phone call that police have found something.

"Being in that limbo is very painful for the family."

Det Insp Fiona Van Kampen said: "We're not looking for anybody specifically, we are open to all possibilities.
"We haven't found his phone, we haven't found his backpack, we haven't found any items of clothing that belonged to Nathan, we haven't found anything."

Police search for man last seen in Walthamstow, east London

Nathan Cole, 32, disappeared on his way to a concert and has been missing since 21 January

  • Police officers are continuing to investigate the case of a 32-year-old man who disappeared on his way to a concert in Camden in north London and has been missing for more than two weeks.

Nathan Cole, who worked at the London School of Economics, was last seen on CCTV in Banbury Road, Walthamstow, near to the Banbury Reservoir, at 11pm on 21 January.

Police officers have previously said they are concerned “he may have come to harm”.

Specialist search officers and divers have searched the Banbury Reservoir area, including the Wild Marshes, Lea River, Pymmes Brook, the canal and reservoirs.

The BBC has filmed a reconstruction of Cole’s last known movements. His sister Hannah told the broadcaster: “It’s completely heartbreaking not knowing whether he’s alive and whether he’s going to walk through the door or we’re going to get that phone call that police have found something. Being in that limbo is very painful for the family.”

Officers have been reviewing hours’ worth of CCTV in the hope of gaining evidence pointing to Cole’s location.

Do you know enough details about it to contact the tip line?
I also live in the area and know the River well, and as @Boatman has mentioned there are illegal raves down that way, however there is also a music venue close to the river and Ikea [Where Nathan's phone was traced to] so I'm wondering if he decided to head there, the venue is called The Drumsheds.
So I think he was either heading to a rave or to that venue or it was a mugging gone wrong - Also we're hearing that police divers are searching the river with sonar equipment

As far as I am aware people are still out searching for him.

I have not heard of any actual sightings of him on the marshes/ wetlands...and it's been stated that his phone may not have been with him when it pinged in the Tottenham/Edmonton area near the now closed IKEA. I wonder how certain they are about location as it's been stated he was on Banbury Rd and surely that could ping off the same cell towers, wherever they are situated.
I know there have been bike thefts, muggings and rape across a wider area of the marshes, not necessarily in this section. You can get a better idea of local crime on various sites which you can type in a postcode with that area to see past crimes in certain periods. Some cyclists have even previously been thrown into the water. This is part of the Lea / Lee Valley which stretches from outside London to the Thames with reservoirs, canals, rivers, flood relief channel... without knowing where he was going, route, if he even entered the Wetlands, it's all speculation.

It's true there are parties that spring up as well as raves in the area, from both the Walthamstow, Tottenham, Edmonton sides with little warning. I am sure there was a large one around Folly Lane/ Banbury / Durban Rd area a month or more ago. But locals will have noticed all this I am sure and commented on it.
The Drumsheds music venue is often commented on locally as with the raves and parties the sound can carry depending on wind direction etc.

This is not the only case it's been commented on that is getting little coverage in comparison to Nicola Burges, and if you look at the activity on threads about her on here, that's partly why. The media choose to focus on those who sell newspapers/create internet traffic... I also feel it's partly due to vulnerability, It's a woman, with child dependents, statistically bearing in mind they have to look at all avenues in missing person cases, and not stating any crime has occurred, but she is like a stereotypical poster representative of a woman that certain male assailants would choose. That concerns me.

Nathan apparently had a drone in his backpack, seems an odd thing to take out if he was going to a concert and also something you might want to use on a place like the marshes and also something someone might rob someone to have. Would he fly it at night though. There are so many unknowns.
I really hope they find him soon and safe, or some clues that help further his case
