If you want to immediately draw people's attention to the river then you leave the phone near the bench, the harness on the bank, and the dog running around - which was not interesting in the river's edge but was interesting in the bench and the gate. Then you have someone come along with the caravan site owner and talk about NB 'faffing' about near the river's edge and that the dog might have been sniffing fishing bait.

It was 2 hours before any type of search began. There is no '10 minute window'. The whole thing stinks.
Yes and a few simple words like that gets forced on to other people, it spreads like wildfire and there’s your hypothesis! JMO!

Is it possible to walk downstream from the bench along the lower track on the waters edge past the weir and then UNDER the road bridge out the otherside keeping on the river bank?
It's possible to follow a path from the bench round and down to the weir but whether you could get down to the river easily past the weir I'm not sure. Would be very visible from the bridge and the riverpath too so I;d think unlikely even if you could.

However once past the weir I suspect the river is easily fordable at low tide and there is a path the other side that leads up towards the church and then onto Garstang Road/Blackpool Lane.

I live near a very similar small river with similar field surroundings and limited exit points, and find it very difficult to believe anyone could be abducted (or slip away deliberately) without it being noticed. And NB was apparently quite well known in the area, so she would be more likely to be recognised.

As strange as the whole situation is, I really believe she didn't leave the area around the bench by land -- if she has in fact left the immediate area at all.

Thanks - from Google maps it looks like wide open countryside both sides of the river once under the bridge. It’s just a thought that this could be another way out on foot without CCTV - not sure if there is a river bank track on that side of the road - but if so could likely have covered a lot of ground from 9:20 to when the helicopters when up (5/6 hrs later?).

Maybe as you say it relates to Paul Ansell's hunch( PA has been discussing it with PF?)

PF ...' has given police a map of places the body may be hidden and said these are likely to be 'ditches, hedgerows and wooded areas' – or anywhere it could be possible to park a car and ditch a body without being seen. ‘

Mother of Libby Squire sends moving message to Nicola Bulley's partner
Desperate people resort to desperate things. And in many cases searching for the missing has resulted in them being unwittingly found by dog walkers, farmers fields that have been dormant etc. Millie Dowler 6 months later found by mushroom pickers in the woods, quite close to an entrance gate but just not on a main footpath. I guess PA, family and friends do want to feel they've done everything they were able to. And possibly they do have their own suspicions they can follow up themselves

Not sure how to word this without giving offence, but why are some people so obsessed that this must be a crime rather than an accident.
Is it the need to blame somebody for her disappearance?
In my mind it’s because if it was accident by drowning there is no chance she would still be alive. Whereas if she was kidnapped, she could still be alive somewhere. For me it’s the little bit of hope that she is alive somewhere I guess. JMO.

new link, today Nicola Bulley: Police told to adjust messaging in search for missing mum to stop people 'taking things into own hands'

I can only think that these retired detectives (saying stuff like this) have not been following this case closely

- if you've watched the press conferences listing every activity behind the scenes, the interviews, the LP's own regular updates, the interviews w Chief & Super, the dispersal orders, the calls from LP to stop speculating, the non-stop appeal for cctv on Garstang Rod, the details from their narrative re which exits they've already 'eliminated..

Speaking to Sky News, former detective chief inspector Simon Harding said Lancashire Police needed to change the way it speaks to the public, to "reassure other people and stop people going to that scene and taking things into their own hands".
"But now come out and say, 'we've done this, we have done this CCTV, we've done this researching' to stop people.
"It's the messaging, which is the problem for me."

I think all options are on the table - but think that an accident is unpalatable to some as it means her life is over - a crime keeps the vague hope that she’s alive.

I think that’s where the family understandably are likely to be.

I feel the strongest scent of clues will be in and around the field area, the bench area is intended to deceive IMO

Oh absolutely, I wasn't making a judgement on Paul Ansell. If NB was my friend, I'd also be doing informal search parties - with permission of LE - everywhere and anywhere local, every ditch, wood etc

I'd need my head examining if I rocked up to Lancs P HQ with just a OS map of the area pointing out known features to a specialist team including some of the most experienced regional searchers in the area, 19 days on.

Now if there was criminal evidence and for instance, and I had a map, for example, of secret medieval tunnels under, say St Michaels Church & connected to the ' disappearance' fields , which was from an obscure manuscript or little known - uncharted, un-mapped water channels , I'd say it was worth doing

( PS with Millie D being found 25 miles away in a different county from where she was abducted, altho that's a whole different story. unless I had a lead to criminal involvement, if I was SIO I doubt I'd be able to justify a decision to ' jump' resources c25 miles to start a search )

Oh my goodness - I could actually feel that sick rush of adrenalin that you must have had when you first saw it. Hope you've recovered now!
It was such a shock! I was expecting it to be a message from my son with suggestions for birthday presents for my grandchildren. I clicked to open it and my heart almost leapt into my mouth.

If I said to you that I’d gone to LancsPolice at the weekend and given them a map of the local area pointing out to them ditches, hedgerows and wooded areas which could be potential body deposition spots - what would you say to me?

Be honest!
That's well out of TOS so I can't comment.
