Thanks - from Google maps it looks like wide open countryside both sides of the river once under the bridge. It’s just a thought that this could be another way out on foot without CCTV - not sure if there is a river bank track on that side of the road - but if so could likely have covered a lot of ground from 9:20 to when the helicopters when up (5/6 hrs later?).
Here's a link to where I think you mean. Google maps

Not sure how to word this without giving offence, but why are some people so obsessed that this must be a crime rather than an accident.
Is it the need to blame somebody for her disappearance?

Personally I have doubts about the river because for her to have fallen in the river with no evidence to suggest so despite the fast response, what we know about the river and the extensive searches that have happened since is a very far fetched series of events. Now i'm not saying this didn't happen or that there's any evidence for anything else happening but it's wrong IMO to make out you could easily fall in the river

I actually disagree with this - I think it’s clever to leave it because it points to an accident as opposed to foul play, which then leads the police astray. If you were an intelligent perp, you would want the scene to look as normal as possible. IMO.

I suppose with the teams meeting thing there is less likelihood of the missing person having phone in pocket.

Good point but then what about the dog ? There would be no way of dealing with the dog unless it was secured to the bench. Some reports suggest it was in the area but not secured.

I see your point but not that convinced myself.

Good argument though.

Why would you not throw it in the River in this scenario? Once underwater it will no longer transmit a signal and although they are saveable you would have to get it out quite quickly and even if it was recovered it would still point to the missing person being in the River.

Leaving it seems an odd choice IMO.
Same hence I think it’s either an altercation that’s turned into an accident and they’ve not wanted to touch the phone or she’s fallen in. I really don’t think she’s disappeared and left the dog or children.

It's nothing to do with 'clicking message', it's simply an automated service provided to certain account categories by Facebook.
Strange it hasn't happened before after I'd visited the page. That'll teach me to stop being nosey.

If I said to you that I’d gone to LancsPolice at the weekend and given them a map of the local area pointing out to them ditches, hedgerows and wooded areas which could be potential body deposition spots - what would you say to me?

Be honest!
Good on you, hope they’ve taken your direction

They had sniffer dogs early on
Surely now it's time to put Cadaver dogs and Sniffer Dogs to work in the local area away from the actual River?.
It seems to be that actual water searches are finished now and they arein a phase of waiting to see if a body surfaces anywhere.
Would it not be wise to take dogs out and search the area of the village, scent may be picked up and this could possibly lead to locations that cannot be currently searched without a warrant?

Maybe this has been done but as far as I have seen, there have been no searches locally since the very start of the case

I'm not sure obsessed is the word? But almost 3 weeks on and in the absence of evidence that she is a victim of drowning, other possibilities cannot be ignored and there really are only two others...one slightly more likely than the other perhaps?

I think it was an accident, but I think you have to keep an open mind...depending on the perps, abduction isn't always grabbing and dragging a screaming victim away...never underestimate the element of surprise....a friends daughter...aged about 20...was walking down a country lane one summer evening...about 7 30.
two women started. walking. near her and they began chatting, saying how hot they were...they offered her a cold drink and all she remembers is taking a few more steps and then being pushed. out of a car. outside her address around midnight.
the local police treated. her with disdain...I suspect because of her age...luckily shed only been robbed...someone tried to use her bank card and that was the end of it...the dog would be a complication but could be dealt with

I ...the dog would be a complication but could be dealt with
How would you deal with the dog in this situation?

I am 50/50 on pure accident or altercation leading to an accident. I think there is a fair chance if there was an altercation that the other person may not have been aware of the outcome due to their enraged state.

It would be an interesting one to deal with if it came to it.

How would the police deal with someone who had pushed someone out of the way after an argument and the pushed person was shortly afterwards run over by a bus?

Unusual situation.

The perpetrator has been disturbed I fear or the phone and Willows harness would have been in the water

Oh absolutely, I wasn't making a judgement on Paul Ansell. If NB was my friend, I'd also be doing informal search parties - with permission of LE - everywhere and anywhere local, every ditch, wood etc

I'd need my head examining if I rocked up to Lancs P HQ with just a OS map of the area pointing out known features to a specialist team including some of the most experienced regional searchers in the area, 19 days on.

Now if there was criminal evidence and for instance, and I had a map, for example, of secret medieval tunnels under, say St Michaels Church & connected to the ' disappearance' fields , which was from an obscure manuscript or little known - uncharted, un-mapped water channels , I'd say it was worth doing

( PS with Millie D being found 25 miles away in a different county from where she was abducted, altho that's a whole different story. unless I had a lead to criminal involvement, if I was SIO I doubt I'd be able to justify a decision to ' jump' resources c25 miles to start a search )
Re Millie I was only highlighting that off the beaten track and wooded areas (such as you said PF is mentioning) are likely the go to search areas. Secret medieval tunnels and obscure manuscripts...get on the case!

I. wish I knew more about rivers or. who to trust in their assessment....all I. know is that some people are found immediately, others not. at all or only after years..it is really this that determines my attitude

I don’t think people are obsessed or have a need to put the blame on anybody, but it’s human nature to try and solve a problem. It’s also pretty normal to have your own opinions and hypothesis of what may or may not have happened. Jmo.

There's hundreds of reasons you might easily fall into the river, the simplest are trip on something (pothole, rock etc), Stumble over the dog or whilst playing with it, lose balance while picking something up, slip on damp grass. There are steep banks which would be easy to fall down, hard to get out of, and easy to hurt yourself falling down.
I can't get my head around people finding it so hard to believe its even likely.
I understand exploring the idea that someone else is involved, but to say that her falling in the river is far fetched, over leaving the field with no evidence, leaving the dog, lead and phone behind. Which one is more far fetched?

Just going back to the theory that police believe she fell in the river. What if one of the witnesses told police they saw her fall in the river due to a medical incident or such like, but this info just hasn’t been released to the public? If this witness is determined as reliable, the police take it at face value and follow that hypothesis? If the witness is not reliable and her body is not found in the river they could be following other lines of enquiry to establish what really happened. Just a thought. JMO.

How would the police deal with someone who had pushed someone out of the way after an argument and the pushed person was shortly afterwards run over by a bus?
I think it would be manslaughter if you didn't intend to kill them, and murder if it could be proven you pushed them in front of the bus deliberately. If the push directly caused them to be hit by the bus, you'd be unlikely to get away with a slap on the wrist.
