It’s not that strange. I always take a bottle of water with me for after a walk whatever time of the year. I’m also menopausal - not sure if that’s relevant - but I get thirsty on return to my car and often my dog does too.
Yep, I'm looking out my window right now and there is three feet of snow on the ground and the temp is 16 degrees F. I have a bottle of ice water next to me. Yep, I'm meopausal.

I wonder if it is possible to cross the weir on foot. On Apple maps in particular it looks like it can be walked across, dependent on water flow/rainfall.
Did she usually wear those ankle-wellies on walks, I wonder.
Well I wade UK rivers from time to time fly fishing. On that day the water just below the weir was just over 40cm deep and very cold according to the link I posted on the page before. The flow is 3 cubic metres per second, not particularly fast but surprisingly difficult to wade without a staff/wading stick for balance and the right soles on boots, typically studded. Without that, you’d be very likely to slip and fall, getting very wet and cold. That’s ignoring holes in the river bed etc. To wade across the concrete weir itself would be impossible without falling as likely very slippery with algae/weed build up.

God forbid this poor woman has gone from vanished loving mum out walking her dog to a being menopausal lush. Beyond sad to hear this type of comic strip trash is occurring
You can still be menopausal and a loving mum. You can still have problems with alcohol and be a loving mum. And you can have alcohol issues triggered by struggles with the menopause, and a loving mum.

My opinion only in the words that follow:-
I think that possibly poor Nicola was/is a lady with problems and I think that her going missing is not the work of anyone else outside or within the family.
Will she be found? I think that in time yet to pass she will be found but sadly it will be earthly remains only.
Websleuths is a factual group, with good rules, good moderation and members. However some of the coverage on various other Social Media Channels such a Facebook, Twitter, TikTok etc has been at the very least damaging, troll like and I stand by what I say that it has hampered the Police Investigation. I'm all for free speech and non censorship but I think that it is time that maybe some of these groups were shut down.
In my humble opinion it would be a good thing if media coverage now started to dampen down considerably. I say this for above all two small girls, her partner AND other folk that live in the local area. They have all suffered gross invasions of their day to day lives and privacy and really this level of intrusion cannot go on.
I might wonder if the time is coming for specialist help for the family to be brought in to help them digest this terrible event in their lives, salvage what pieces they can and live life in whatever way they can manage. I so hope that resources are being made available especially for these children.
This is a tragic case that has been huge public news and by saying the above I am in no way inferring throwing the towel in on Nicola but above all its the children and their day to day lives that worry me as a result of all this. Its all so dreadfully sad.
JMO MOO

I’m not sure it’s a quote as such, just what “we” - the public - are now saying.
Thank you for replying. Another poster has also replied with a similar interpretation to you. It’s been a while since I’ve been on WS actively following a live thread. A quote was a sourced quote in those times. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Has it been confirmed if Willow’s lead was found or not found?
It was confirmed yesterday that the lead was found with the harness.

What we have established is that:
  • Nicola was in the upper field at approximately 09.10
  • We know that her mobile phone is in the area of the bench at approximately 09.20
  • At approximately 09.33, a local dog walker finds Willow running around off her lead.
  • Nicola’s mobile phone is faced upwards on the bench.
  • Willow’s harness and lead were halfway between the bench and the river.

I'm wondering if not being fully open was at the behest of the family and if so, does the police have the power to overule the family's wishes.
I believe they respected the family not wanting that information to be released at the start- despite the fact it may have helped people search in the beginning. I also have suspicions that they think she may have gone off with help from someone only NB knew and after time and the press being so high profile, they questioned whether she couldn’t then get home or escape the situation. In the very beginning the police did give hints of this talking about places she had contacts in, one point I also found odd was at the beginning her description had brown hair- which is not how I would describe it, but if she was to change her look that’s how she would appear- similar to Claudia they released photos with the wrong coloured hair. One reason I think they may have released all the details they have done at this late stage, is one last attempt to get contact if she has taken herself away-is in the hope and generally I think it’s worked, that if still alive she would realise it’s ok, people will understand and empathise or sympathise and people won’t be wanting to know why she did what she did, as that is already out there. It also sets the opportunity up for her to contact police or health services and say she doesn’t want to be found. I’m now clinging to the hope that her friends and partner are, whereas before I was convinced she fell in the river. Other oddities in this case- they normally point out there has been no activity on bank cards etc, they have also explained away any activity on social media- the first of which is normally always mentioned, the latter very rarely. I’m now living in hope she will let her whereabouts be known and that the river and phone were just as people said at the beginning a decoy and a red herring- even if she isn’t ready to go home.

I also totally agree, and am also skeptical about a medical/mental health diagnosis which sounds like it was gotten from lay people, but presented by the police as if it is close to a fact. It might be more believable if a psychiatrist or doctor said she had x issues caused/ worsened by menopause, but neither profession would likely give such personal info willingly or likely commit to such a simplistic cause-and-effect.
Perhaps the police are in possession of such info JMO. A diagnosis of menopause or peri-menopause normally comes after visits with GP, blood tests to check FSH and AMH levels, ultrasounds to check the size of the ovaries etc.

Her passport would flag up, so this most definitely hasn't happened.
If they were uk based then they'd have let the police know, police would have confirmed her being safe and well and released a statement saying as such but wouldn't have provided her location. If she didn't want her family to know then they wouldn't have been informed of her location either.
They would let her family know, but probably not the general public as people would still keep trying to find her for the family- which is counter productive. The messages today make me question whether this has already happened- and I hope it has, but that’s me personally hoping against the odds and if it is the case I’m not sure we will ever hear anything more.

This attitude of shame is why it can be so hard for people to go and get help for their problem.

Snip >>

a former detective who was involved in the Sarah Payne case in 2000, told Sky News that the force have "completely destroyed" Ms Bulley's reputation >>

Nicola Bulley: Stopping menopause drugs 'ended up causing this crisis', family says.

N’s reputation is not completely destroyed.

The former detective wants any other woman to know her reputation is done if she has woman problems and drinking.

It’s not an insult if N struggled with drink.

It’s not a problem equivalent to the gutter. Just because it is legal doesn’t mean all is bright with even a few drinks for someone who turns to it in need.

So the information is pertinent. What if someone noticed a new person around charity places or a woman who looks like her staying in lodging and frequenting the pub or staying completely to her room?

A teacher and mother of three disappeared in Texas after saying she was going out for lunch and was recognized months later by someone eating a meal with her in New Orleans. She was living amongst the homeless.

A desperate walkaway like a suicide is not able to, doesn’t have the emotional bandwidth, to seek to help others before acting. That’s why WS doesn’t allow victim blaming.

If N did a walker or it was self-harm it does not mean she wasn’t or didn’t want to consider others. Often they incomprehensively think it is for the best. The dog was not left in a busy lane of traffic but in a familiar area with other dog walkers and friends.

I think it is dear that her family showed the goodness in describing N. That’s how they know her and see her in their lives.

What is an alcoholic? How to treat alcoholism
all imo
Hear hear.

I don't understand some of this coverage today, it's making my head spin.
Some of it is legitimate but some of is really treating her ' vulnerabilities' as if they are uncommon and as if it's shameful to have an addiction or for women particularly to suffer from such common afflictions.
Menopause was fine for me, but I know for many it isn't

It was only a a few weeks ago that I'd vaguely recalled hearing a related news item Govt committee's report on women's rights at work . I just went to check the specifics

Here's some background

You can still be menopausal and a loving mum. You can still have problems with alcohol and be a loving mum. And you can have alcohol issues triggered by struggles with the menopause, and a loving mum.
You are of course very right...I was referring to lurid headlines the gutter tabloids like to adopt

I have replied to this on note 765 - regarding a lower riverbank track from the bench which avoids the towpath and allows you to walk UNDER the road bridge (no CCTV) to the otherside and open countryside.
Are you saying there are two possible exits? If so, then why are the Police saying there is only one gap in their CCTV coverage? JMO

And even at/below the weir the water was 40cm deep at least. That seems shallow but wading it when the air temperature is close to freezing and you haven’t got the right footwear, studded soles etc. is difficult.

Yup - possible (IMO) but you would risk attracting the attention of anyone on the river path and you wouldn’t want to go far after - considered this in conjunction with a possible pickup by car in the church car park previously - seems less likely in light of the new info.
