'Previously, proceedings were only broadcast from certain Court of Appeal cases. The contract has now been extended to the Crown Court and Sky, BBC, ITN and Press Association are able to apply to film and broadcast sentencing remarks, with the judge deciding whether to grant the request.'

Crown Court sentencing remarks to be broadcast for first time

Broadcast news channels will air judges’ sentencing remarks from the Crown Court for the first time tomorrow (28 July), following a change in the law.

So I guess the sentencing remarks will be broadcast on all these major channels in the UK?

Sky reports that a prison van has just brought Lucy Letby to court, but that she is expected to refuse to leave the cells.

The Observer can also reveal that in 2016 managers blamed other NHS services for many of the unexplained deaths. The managers who wrote the report blamed Cheshire and Mersey transport service and Alder Hey children’s hospital.

While it remains a criminal offence to take pictures or film in courthouses, the rules were relaxed a few years ago to allow TV cameras to broadcast a judge's sentencing remarks.
That will be the case today, as Mr Justice James Goss will be appearing on TV news channels as he delivers sentencing remarks, and the final sentence, for Lucy Letby. That is expected to happen this afternoon.
What won't be broadcast is anything prior to that. TV cameras will not be showing families giving impact statements, nor will they be showing mitigation offered by Letby's defence team.
