fwiw the police learned that the entire family had left the country 19 days after the August 27 accident -- not two.

When police went to the Croughton base the next day to tell Sacoolas that Dunn had died, she was understandably upset and assured them she had no plans to leave the country. When they came back a second time to get more information, she was lawyered up and assisted by officials from the U.S. Embassy to the U.K..

The police went back again Sept. 15 to place Sacoolas under formal questioning in a wrongful death inquiry but she, her husband, Jonathan, and their three children had left the country, claiming diplomatic immunity. The U.S. Embassy in London said they did so on the advice of the U.S. State Department.

I agree completely, I was horrified that they had that sprung on them. The family must have been furious. I read that they said if they did meet with her, they would want counsellors and mediators involved as well.
 
So disrespectful of the family to ambush them and attempt to put them in front of the press in order to control the narrative. I hope UK police find a way to go forward with charges.

The Dunns compared the situation to being pushed into a reality TV show. I am absolutely horrified at the lack of common sense amongst all of these folks.

Did "someone" think that this would be a great photo opp? And no one is able to say, "NO".? I think that is what John Kelly did at the White House, as Chief of Staff, and it was a thankless job.

Meet the woman who ran your child down in the street like a dog? And won't even take responsibility for killing him? Were they supposed to have tea and just smile? WTH?!
 
Looks like she did not have diplomatic immunity, and that the UK is looking to go forward with a prosecution.

He may think he’s like Oprah but he’s more like Jerry Springer or Maury Povich or his “shock jock” buddy Howard Stern IMO. A total ambush.

An attorney for Sacoolas told CBS News her client, too, was unaware she would potentially be meeting the Dunns when she was invited to the White House on Tuesday.

"To be thrown into a room together with no prior warning, that's not good for her mental health, it's certainly not good for ours. You know, none of us know how we were going to react to have that sprung on us," Charlotte Charles said.

What a good example the Dunns set, standing up to this pressure from Trump!

In an interview on “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday, the Dunns admitted to feeling “a bit [of] pressure” from Trump, noting that "he did ask two or three times” but “we stuck to our guns."

It's almost as though Trump decided that all he needed to do was put the two women in one room and tell them to make up and be friends, or maybe he thought that Harry Dunn's father should get over it by hugging Sacoolas' husband.

I'm not sure I believe that Sacoolas was unaware of the plan. She knew that Dunn was in Washington to talk to Trump, and she was invited to the White House at the same time. Could she not put two and two together?
 
I'm actually surprised the Dunns were invited to the White House to meet with the president himself. Is this how international incidents resulting in the death of a foreign national on foreign soil are normally handled? I've never heard of a case like this. The administration seems very eager to calm down the situation. Jmo.
