The Virginia State Police have confirmed that a partially skeletized body of a young woman was found in Charlottesville on a farm in Albemarle County.

Police have announced a joint press conference will be held at 5 p.m. in Charlottesville.

David Bass, the owner of the farm, said he found the body around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Bass said the body was in a very remote part of his farm. He was checking fences when he discovered the remains. He said he only ventures to that particular part of the farm about once each year, and had not been there since August.

Police asked Bass not to disclose any information about the appearance of the body

Well, I live here and its not all that far from 29, so "nowhere near" is a stretch.

Here's a map of where the body was found:

I've gone down Taylor's Gap Rd a gazillion times on my way to visit my friend.
Mind boggling.

My prayers and sympathies to the Harrington family for comfort and peace.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY - The parents of Morgan Harrington tell CBS 6 they are en route to the Charlottesville area to identify the skeletal remains found in Albemarle County this morning.

An Albemarle County resident found the remains Tuesday morning at a private residence called Anchorage Farm on Anchorage Farm Road in the Southern part of Albemarle County.

The farm is ten miles away from the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville where 20-year-old Morgan Harrington was last seen at a Metallica concert October 17.

When we spoke to Dan Harrington, Morgan's Father, he was in tears and tells CBS 6 this is a horrible day for their family.

We also know that the lead investigator in the Harrington disappearance, Lt. Joe Rader, is on the scene.

Virginia State Police is planning a news conference this evening at 5:00pm.

One comment at the above linked news article states that Morgan is no longer listed as missing on the VSP website, (did not check that fact for accuracy, though)

I don't see her on there. But then I never went to the site before to know if she was there before.

Weird that they would remove it so quickly.

ETA: Nevermind, she's listed still under the missing children section. (I originally checked missing "persons" not "children")

Looks like the press is setting up their circus

"According to a press release, state police was notified of the discovery at 9:59am this morning by a county resident.
Corinne Geller, the public relations manager for the state police, commented via e-mail that "If anything should develop concerning this scene and the disappearance of Morgan Harrington, I will be sure to notify you via e-mail. Until then, I will not be doing any interviews or making any additional comments because there is nothing further to release at this time."
She added that a precise location will not be given while forensic analysis is occurring."

I want to insert a gentle reminder here for all our wonderful posters.

If this is indeed Morgan, it is likely possible to sleuth a lot more possible perps. This, of course, is because the discovery of a murder victim gives us a lot more information about what, when, where, and how things happened.

Please continue to remember our TOS as you sleuth and post.

I am especially concerned that you not post personal information about innocent parties or possible perps unless LE publicly gives out a name or names of POIs/suspects.

Thank you,

Hoppy

IMHO, there must be something specific that leads them to believe this is possibly Morgan. Perhaps the clothing.

Too sad whoever it is.

ABC 13 reporter David Tate spoke with Gil Harrington, Morgan's mother. Around 12:30 p.m., she said she was leaving Roanoke to go to Charlottesville. She was in tears. She also said she asked police not to move the body until she arrived.

Channel 29 is reporting that skeletal remains of a female with long blonde hair and black clothing, bracelet on wrist ...

Large farm fronting on Rt 29 south of Charlottesville.

OMG! I woke up this morning, and, my first thought was of Morgan, and the thought was that today we would find her or hear of something significant. I actually forced myself to stay of WS for sometime today while I did other work, as I was fearful I would see the words Found Deceased.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends today. May the guilty party be swiftly found and brought to justice.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, my fellow Websleuthers, who, I know share feelings of sadness, we invest ourselves, heart and soul into our special cases, and I know we all hoped that Morgan would be found safe, finding otherwise hurts.

I just heard this on HLN while eating lunch. I am so terribly saddened by this news. My thoughts are with her family.

if it is Morgan, i guess the only consolation would be that they know she isn't being held in some bunker somewhere and will know that they can lay her to rest....that being said, i can't imagine what her poor family is going through. love to them...

and if it's not her, it someone else's baby....so sad.
