Wow, wanting2help -- thank you for all your ideas!!!!!! I really hope together we can all help bring this man back to his family. His case has haunted me for months now.

And perhaps the title of the thread needs to be changed. When I first happened upon him LE stated he was "running." I assumed that meant he was "jogging." I think the title, now that we know better, is misleading and perhaps it should be edited to reflect our new info.

I will look between the marina and the burger king -- maybe try to find a way to access land records from the time. Perhaps he came in on a boat from another area of the US?

The closest "marina" would be the Cavalier Yacht Club. They are ~5 doors down from the BK, inland.

Now, I don't mean to judge, BUT.... would someone wearing k-mart shoes be a member of a yacht club? Possibly, yes. Probably, no.

There is also the Princess Anne Country Club. I will e-mail both to inquire about abandoned boats. -- NM PACC doesn't have a marina.

Just a thought. The update to clothing says his pants had Black,White and light tan paint I believe. Boats are often painted black beneath the water line and white above. So either he may have been someone who paints boats. Or he owns a boat and has older clothes that he wears when he is working on his boat and at one time did some painting of the hull wearing the same clothes.Still doesn't explain the running on Laskin rd though.

I've been furiously googling "fresno sport." I ebayed it and found only 3 listings for clothes of that brand name. I found two auction listings from New Zealand for frsno sport items that were sold on "Trade Me" years ago. Could FS be an NZ brand? I googled "FS" on google.com.nz but had no luck other than "Fresno State" stuff :/

I'm intrigued ..

First, I agree, he was NOT jogging in those shoes. Boat shoes are basically slip-ons with a very shallow "toe end" .. not good for jogging. Been there.

I also agree that the marks on his face are from ems attempting to revive him and having respiratory equip taped to his face until they got him to the hospital. They aren't gentle when they are trying to revive a patient in cardiac arrest. It just isn't pretty.

Have we submitted Kevin Belknap?

hmmm.. i dont know anyone who jogs in boat shoes. maybe he was a boater and not a jogger.

i wonder if any abandoned boats were found around the time of his disappearance, or maybe washed up in the months that followed?

i googled burger king on laskin road and its only 4 blocks from the ocean... though i have never been to virginia beach and have no idea what their blocks are like, so maybe that's far?

link: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=burg...ach,+VA&cid=0,0,15930682415372606120&t=m&z=17

there are also several boat-related businesses in the area, including a boat loan finance company a bit further down on laskin road.

ETA: i went out for lunch and missed all the boating talk... sorry!

I probably shouldn't have used the word marina... There is a dirt turn around? place to the left/rear of burger king. It looks like a public boat launch and parking to me. Then it looks like a public cruise ship with parking to the left of that, and then the marina...

BK on Laskin is a walk-able distance from the ocean front -- but there are plenty of other restaurants, closer by.

The dirt turn around behind that teal roofed building is a part of the restaurant's parking. I think they get people in there on boats, so it's like "boat parking." I'm not sure who owns the spot now.

Here's property value for that block of Laskin Rd. -- funny, BK bought it in 2002.

Okay, just some opinions here.

Under what circumstances would someone be able to walk into a BK and die and nobody know who he is?

He's new to the area?
He's homeless?
He's traveling (with a carnival, or some kind of show)

Did he walk away from another life .. so whoever might have reported him missing has no idea where he went?

Chances are he wasn't working .. not a steady job anyway .. or someone from his place of employment would have reported him missing.

So, I lean toward him either being homeless, or new to the area having walked away from another life....

imo

I'm hung up on Kevin Belknap ... sorry.

Wait -- seriously????? They only got his freaking thumbprint from his left hand!!!!!!! No wonder they can't match him with anyone!!! (Does this make sense to anyone?!)

Ew, I just called the case manager on file and they connected me to a "day investigator" who was super rude and was like "uh, why do you want this info???" ...... >:[

He died in 2001 and did not show up in a database searchable by the public until 2011. TEN years later. His family may have tried to report him missing and they could have been told like many others have that he is an adult and has the right to go missing. We never know until they are id'd what the circumstances are.

"uh, because i am trying to help you look good by solving a COLD CASE" ugh! :banghead:

also just 1 thumb print??? how is that possible???

I know I said that too -- I was like "Uh... to help you solve his identity??" Jerk. He told me to ask the cops about it.

And IDK about the one print -- not like his fingers were burned off in a freaking fire.

I looked at this guy a while ago. Let me know what you think...

Kevin Belknap
https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/305
It was the teeth and the hairline (strong hairline for an older man) that particularly caught my attention.

Not sure about the chin...
Height is perfect. Timeline fits.

I can find information about family (kids and parents) but nothing on him being married or having a long term girlfriend/boyfriend. At such a distance away (9 hours) I want to look for a reason for him 'running off'. Another woman, stolen money from the casino he works at... that sort of thing. I really can't find anything much on this guy so it's based on visual only and that chin bothers me.

I've submitted him this morning.

It's really hard to get attention from anyone. I've been submitting matches for years and only quite recently found myself "a friend" in Namus so I get regular responses now where I never did before.

The line "please confirm receipt of my submission or I will email you every day until I get a reply" tends to work quite well! :what:

Sniped for space...

DippyBlonder,

Did you ever get a reply to your submission of Kevin Belknap as a possible match to the John Doe? TIA

BBM. There could be something to this idea. the paint on his clothes tells me they are "work clothes" so maybe he was some sort of laborer?

I have started to do some searching for fairs/carnivals in VAB, and found the Neptune Festival, an annual festival held the last weekend of every september where locals "take back" the beach. there is also a huge sand castle competition tied to this. The festival has food and bands and vendors galore.

if he was tied with one of these roaming businesses and chose to stay on in VA beach then no one would think of him as missing... maybe i am over thinking?

I think we could go on that angle, sure. I think he was either local to the area or he was a laborer. I don't think he was homeless (I searched homeless shelters near Laskin and the closest was far away and for kids -- which could have changed of course). The pants are too worn in for him to be "vacationing" in the area.

I realize this, however if he lived and worked in the area, someone in the area would have called LE or hospitals and he would have been identified. If someone knew he was going to that area and then disappeared, they would have called LE or hospitals in that area and he would have been identified.

It goes back to: nobody in that area knew him and/or was looking for him when he didn't come home, or show up to work, or whatever.

I think he's transient .. to an extent.

imo
