Here we go with the cross of the computer/phone forensics guy. So tough to listen to this lady and her tone of voice when she questions folks. Ugh...

Her tone is so off-putting I can't focus on the substance of what's being said. So glad I can shut it off. Imagine having to be in the courtroom and listen to her -- awful.

I forgot about how terrible these men were. In addition to the rape (horrible enough), urinating on and defiling her unconscious body. Disgusting.

And on another note, can't even imagine the horror their parents must feel. Boys go off to great school, playing football, promising futures, and then this. This doesn't take away from how this has affected the victim and her family too. Hopefully she has received a lot of counseling and has been able to continue her studies.

I agree, there's always more than the victims family that is hurting. I would die if my son did these things and I would encourage him to plead guilty, take his punishment, and not put the victim through any more. Cory's mom was a long time employee of the university, and I can imagine how proud she was to have her son there and on the football team. I don't hold her accountable for her adult sons actions, but I do want him to pay the penalty. He (both) are horrible humans and should spent the rest of their lives behind bars. I saw this one on Dr Phil and I wanted to slap him. He could only say that isn't who he is, sorry, it is exactly who you are: a vile racist, sadist, rapist. And any other young man who can stand by and let that happen, without at least taking a beating, is not a lot better.
I hope all the men on the jury think about 'what if that was my daughter'

Wow, this judge doesn't mess around. It's 8:00 p.m. and the jury just went to deliberate. Hopefully a quick verdict of guilty. And then on to the next rapist, Brandon.

Still waiting......:waiting:

I don't think I will be able to go to sleep until something happens...

Do you think they will come back tonight? I am not sure but maybe

I think they want to. They have worked hard today and I think they want to be done with this tonight. But I don't know... if there is a hold out, they may give in for now and come back tomorrow (or Monday if no court on Saturdays?).

Verdit will be read in about 10 minutes.

The charges and the verdict:

Count 2: charged with agg rape, vaginal penetration with fingers -- guilty as charged
Count 3: charged with agg rape, mouth penteration with penis -- guilty of lesser offense, attempted agg rape
Count 4: charged with attempted agg rape, vaginal penetration with penis -- guilty as charged

Count 6: charged with agg sexual battery, contact with private areas -- guilty as charged
Count 7: charged with agg sexual battery, slapping of buttocks -- guilty as charged

I hope the young woman can feel some justice. I know it may not be the full sentence she may have wanted. But at least he did not walk away.

Probably not quite as tuff as many of us & other wanted, but they're still pretty tuff. Sentencing tomorrow or Monday, or will it be in a couple of weeks?

What that young man did to that unconscious woman was despicable, inhumane, horribly disrespectful of her and any other woman on earth, sick and twisted, and cruel. JMHO. Grrrrrr. And drunkenness is no excuse whatsoever. None. He could have walked out the door and kept on walking.

And folks, at sentencing time, if it's allowed in Tenn., remember the magic word in these cases is "consecutive."

Ex-Vanderbilt Football Player Cory Batey Found Guilty of Rape

by Associated Press

A former Vanderbilt football player has been found guilty of raping an unconscious student in a dorm.
It took less than three hours for the jury of nine men and three women to find Cory Batey guilty of aggravated rape, two counts of attempted aggravated rape, facilitation of aggravated rape and three counts of aggravated sexual battery.

Thanks for the updates, as I couldn't keep my eyes open last night and fell asleep.

:tyou:

Great news! It's kind of difficult to prove yourself not guilty when you're on camera doing the crime. You look at Corey and he is such a handsome young man and looks like a nice guy. But the things he did and participated in are atrocious. No amount of alcohol gives him a free pass.

Kudos to the victim for continuing to move herself forward in life and working on a PhD! Hopefully the other trials will move along as quickly and be a brief disruption for her. Once they're all convicted, she can truly move on.

Question to others who may have followed the first trial more closely:

Mack - Brandon's roommate. Did he stay in the room for the entire rape? I followed the trial via Chris Conte's twitter since I'm not local. He testified to masturbating on a towel. Was this during it or before (and LE just happened to do DNA tests on it)?

If he was in the room and didn't report it, is that not a crime? My thought is it must not be a crime and the DA was wanting to humiliate him with the towel remark. Just curious.

Even if he wasn't in the room for the entire rape, he really had a duty to report this. I hope this follows him forever and at least he tries to be a better person going forward.

The roommate was in the room part of the time. He said he was asleep and kind of drifted in and out of sleep and then got up and left. He did not participate in any part of the crime. It's not illegal to be asleep in bed and someone else is doing something illegal. His defense could easily be he didn't know a crime was being committed -- remember he didn't see them carrying her into the room, he didn't see her drink, he didn't know what condition she was in, he was asleep in the top bunk.

Should he have helped? Yes, but he admitted on the stand he was scared. That's not a crime either. The state would not be able to successfully charge and prosecute him with anything. I'm not comfortable painting him with the same brush as the others.
