The problem with that is she was an escort, not a streetwalker. She would not have been picking people up off the street.

Well we were playing with the point that maybe he met her on the way to the store. The way the hotel is you walk out the front door and through a small parking lot to where you're then walking on the grassy side of the road for maybe 50 feet and then you're at the corner Mobil On the Run store. So were not saying that she was doing this in "street walking" fashion, rather that he saw her maybe while in hotel parking lot with nice car idling and was able to chat her up and convince her to hop in, maybe he was even a prior client.

Basically thinking outloud and trying to come up with new ways to look on how he managed to get her- and Amber- to leave their phones behind. And in my mind I wouldn't eliminate that possibility just because she was an "escort."

she had a pimp who sex trafficked her
she's not going to hop in ANYONE's car
unless skanky pimp tells her to.

he was not in brooklyn...he was in long island. he was. right there.
he monitored her every move

Yeah I hear ya. But again I just don't like to eliminate possibilities because there's so much about these people and their lives that I don't know, so personally I feel I can't say a lot of things for sure. But that's just me.

And regarding the phone call, yes that was at 1:30. From what I've learned Akeem claims in one version that Megan told him she was going to the store. In another version, he said when they spoke she said she was going to meet a friend to get something to eat. Is he being truthful in any way?? No idea.

I think it begs the question why did he make them leave the phones? He got away with using one victims phone to terrify her family. Does anyone know when the news organization released the information on the calls to MB's sister? I'm wondering if it was before MW went missing or after.
Nevermind I found it. It was August of 2009 so he probably got nervous.

Maybe she was doing both as in meeting someone at the gas station and getting something to eat. Some of those "On the Run" stores serve to go food...just like a 7-11.

Wait...didn't she respond to a Craigslist ad shortly before she left the hotel? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere. :waitasec:

Let me see if I can track down a link.

ETA: Maybe I'm way off base on this. I can't find a link anywhere.

Either that, or, if Shannan is a victim of LISK, that whole fiasco with her convinced him cell phones were a big problem.

But someone brought up a good point. The only girl we know for sure that LISK told not to bring her phone was Amber. We don't know why Megan left her phone behind. We can make some fairly reasonable assumptions, imo, but the fact is, we just don't know.

Sometimes men approach you, especially if an area is notorious for prostitution, as ps149 says it is. When I have been walking in iffy neighborhoods at night, I have had men pull over thinking I am a prostitute, and I look like a librarian. Not one of the sexy ones either.

Cruz and Waterman left Portland by bus on June 1, bound for Manhattan, police and family said. Waterman checked into a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Hauppauge. Cruz uploaded Craigslist ads, the warrant said, with a photo and cellphone number of a woman her family says is Waterman.

On June 4, Waterman called Haycock with some news: Cruz wanted her to have his child and she would no longer have to work as a prostitute. "I never heard her as happy as she was that day," Haycock said.

Her family finds what happened the next night puzzling.

At 8 p.m. June 5, the hotel security camera captured Cruz and Waterman leaving the hotel together, said Waterman's mother, Lorraine Ela. At 8:30, Waterman entered the hotel alone, Ela said.

Around 1:15 a.m., Waterman got a call from Cruz, Ela said phone records show. It's not known what if anything was said between them. Security video shows Waterman leaving the hotel at 1:30, police said. Ela said she has seen the video, which showed Waterman was alone.

A law enforcement source said she had arranged a date without Cruz's knowledge and met the man in his car.

At 11 a.m. on June 6, Cruz called Benner, asking about Waterman's whereabouts.

"She was supposed to be with you?" Benner said she responded. "Where is Megan?"

I would have to question the part about Megan arranging a date without Cruz's knowledge. How would LE know this? Did they get this from Cruz? I would really question her having the nerve to arrange a "date" without Cruz knowing about it.

I wouldnt question it. Quick couple bucks that she doesnt have to kick up to him. Probbaly the reason why she did not make the date to be in the hotel room. Maybe she thought Cruz had someone watching the room (or something along those lines) to make sure his client to paycheck ratio was correct from her.

Justa thought/possible theorie on LE source claiming Megan made a date in client's car:
What if there was a textmessage from a client in Megas cellphone, from a prepaid/burn cellphone, that said somthing about asking her to meet him in his car at the store, or somthing to that affect?
I mean LE is NOT sharing all they know about this case so since a source from LE is sharing this with a journalist, well maybe that piece of information was one LE had choosen to keep a secret but now it was out told by a LE source.

I guess it is possible to text from a prepaid/burn cellphone right?

LE doesn't just pull things out of thin air. If they believe she arranged a date without Cruz knowing about it, then they have a damned good reason to believe that. And they did have access to Megan's phone, so this would be the logical place for them to obtain this info, imo. I'm guessing if this is the case, that client was using a monger phone and it couldn't be traced to anyone.

Oh, and thank you for providing that link. I looked and looked and couldn't find the stupid thing, but I was sure I'd read it somewhere.

They would not have left their work phones behind if they were working. It might be more productive to start from that point.

It is more likely that they simply used a phone that LE and family don't know about. If both the ladies and their pimps had phones like that, and when they dissappeared the pimp dumped their own (as you might expect), there would be no trail for anyone to follow.

If she got a call from Cruz, then went out to see a client and was never seen again, LE is wrong about her arranging it without his knowledge. That is probably what he told them.

If he was was running the ads, there is no way she would have gone out without him knowing about it.

Then, when she didn't come back, he feigned ignorance. Nice guy.

She could have met a client once who was "cool" so she kept his # and set up her own date later, "on the side" , It would've been money she didn't have to share with AC. Money she could put towards her and her daughters future. I didn't know MW but she seemed all about her daughter.

If I have her pegged wrong, she could've made a quick drug date...something she wouldn't have to share w/ AC. I can believe that she set up a date w/out him knowing.

Would not happen. Escorts calling clients out of the blue to drum up business is a massive nono. She would not have done it. The average client would be horrified if an escort did that - discretion, privacy and anonymity are highly valued in that sub-culture.

She wasn't local either, they went there to do business only, so it isn't like she would know anyone.

She wasn't doing anything on the side. I would say that its a pretty safe bet that she dissappeared on a routine call out for a session.

that was her first out call EVER. she never ever had one before.
it was not routine...her routine was to be IN the room...
for her ENTIRE ....professional career.

Simular curcumstance can also be said for AC also. Difference is she worked out of her home. She walked out after being offered 1500 hundred dollars. This happened afew weeks after a caller asked her to meet at the same hotel MW walked away from. Makes you wonder if it was the same caller.
