Where will the jury come from?

population wise smaller but that isn't the main thing...you have to look at the proportion, race, sex ect to the population.

Is this what they are looking for when they say they have to compare the demographic's?

Oh look at this:

Daytona is in Volusia county and here is the demographic's:

Volusia County: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/12/12127.html

Orange County: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/12/12095.html

Good work Lera

IMO JBP will not pick a jury from any county in Central Florida or those that receive the Orlando networks telecasts..All the counties that are part of Central Florida IMO will be ruled out..including Brevard and Volusia to the East, they receive Orlando newscasts.

In another WESH report, Kealing studied news coverage of the Anthony case around the state. Judge Perry has been tracking the coverage in determining where he’ll draw the jurors. Kealing noted, according to the company Vocus, that the Orlando market generated 58 percent of the Anthony coverage statewide in the past month. The Tampa-St. Pete market delivered nearly 18 percent. Jacksonville and West Palm Beach each produced 5 percent.

Okay, we have 81 more days until jury selection is to begin.

I am thinking that Judge Perry has already made his decision on the location he believes this jury should come from... and I know that he will give the State and Defense a heads up (I forgot the amount of days) so that they could make their arrangements (hotels, travel, etc...). We also know that there will be a gag order in place so that the location can not be released to the public.

How long does it take for them to send out jury duty notices? I think I have only gotten one jury duty notice in my entire life and that was YEARS ago. I know I was given a date and time to call... I just don't remember how long I got the notice before I was supposed to call.

Also, if this jury selection is to last at least a week... what is to stop the people going in for jury selection from leaking it to the media once they have been dismissed? It could be leaked the first morning by someone who leaks it to the press... and then what?

I'm in Brevard County and 2 of our family just received notices, we were both noticed approximately 5 weeks before serving. I'm trying to find out about the other surrounding counties.

I don't really want them choosing from my county cause I do not want to serve on her jury. I have been called twice in 10 years (once in each county I have lived) and so has my husband. I know a lot of folks might want to serve on the jury for this case, but I am not one of them.

I live in Lee County, Florida and it would not bother me if they chose a jury from here because I know, even if I was called to jury duty, I would be dismissed immediately. I would be 100% honest about the fact that I have followed this case from the very beginning and that I would not be able to put my own opinions aside because I am 100% convinced that Casey Anthony is guilty of murdering Caylee. Nothing is going to change my mind.

I don't think Lee County is going to be the location though. Casey has family here. George's parents and I believe his sister live here in Lee County.

I am putting this post here, because it sort of ties in with bringing in a jury.

Yesterday a friend from out of state asked me how I felt about MY tax dollars funding this whole mess. While thinking about my answer, I am annoyed, I realized something. The total cost of KC's defense and trial could very well run over 1 Million. What I would love to find out and I don't even know how you could calculate it, is how much $$$ Orlando, Orange County and maybe the state of FL might EARN from this. When the circus, oh, excuse me, trial, starts, media from all over the place with descend upon Orlando. They will need hotel rooms, transportation, food, maybe even a little entertainment in the evenings. How much moeny from all the different taxes on rental cars, hotel rooms, food and beverages, etc. will Orando reap from this? Will the city and County recoup some of their money simply because it is high profile and will be followed closely by the media? MIght be a story in this for some reporter who is looking for a 'different angle' to this story.

Very good way to think about it. This trial is going to filter into the summer months (prime time for Orlando because of vacation for the kids on summer break) so money may even filter into neighboring areas because the amount of people that are going to be in Orlando during the trial on top of your typical tourism.

As a Florida tax payer myself, I stopped looking at the amount of money being spent on this case... only because I don't think you could ever put a price on justice. I have faith that IF JB does something wrong with the monies he is given, it will come back on him and he will be held accountable. Other than that... Caylee is waiting and once this trial is over and done with and Casey is convicted and sentenced to death or LWOP... it will have all been worth it. Every. Single. Penny.

Thank you for bringing this up Macushla - good idea and very thought provoking. I'm just not sure how the tax system works in Florida. Here in Canada, those things that are runoffs as a result of the trial, like hotel rooms, food, transportation, etc., are taxed by our government, plus the businesses are of course making a profit on their services.

While a trial that indeed costs a million is a bit of a head breaker to look at it only this way, there does seem to be a bit of a balancing act going on. We've just been looking at those numbers as we look at the cost of hosting the Winter Olympics a year ago, vs the tax dollars and profits made and collected.

This is loosely related to your post. Here in California the entertainment industry looks for locations to use for anything from filming a movie to filming commercials. Often cities will promote their city as a place where the entertainment industry is welcome and work with the studio people scouting locations. I once was on a committee whose goal was to promote several cities in our area as filming locations. There was discussion about how much money is left in a community after being used as a film location.

Many here will remember a movie released in 1988 called The Great Outdoors, starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd. That film was filmed on location at Bass Lake, California and the film crew was there for 3 weeks. The city took in over $300,000 during that time. Bass Lake is a very small community, and the lake with fishing, boating and swimming is the main attraction. Lodging is small motels and restaurants are fast food and cafes.

Most of the major media networks will be sending a crew to Orlando to cover the trial which is expected to last about 8 weeks. The media crews will likely be staying at hotels and will be dining in upscale restaurants. On the weekends they'll likely seek a break from the trial coverage with recreational activities - Disney World, Universal Studios, golf, movies, etc. I can foresee that Orlando could make a hefty profit from the media coverage alone.

I would do whatever I could just to get on the Jury.

I would LOVE to be a jury member during Casey's trial.

too bad I live in Texas.

Don't forget we still will get to see Inmate Casey in August. :)

I agree.
It would be a good story and a departure from the legal aspect of this case.
What will be the economic impact on the City of Orlando and Orange County, both the Public and Private sectors.

I posted a comment about the economic angle within the past 2 weeks..
This could be a short term economic windfall for many local businesses and the taxes gathered may help, even a little, off set the costs for extra LE resources that will be required for safety and security during the trial.

With it getting so close to jury selection... I wonder if any of my fellow Floridians get nervous everytime they check their mail? I find myself having heart palpitations everytime I am about to look in my mailbox because I do not want to see a jury duty notice for May 9th, 2008.

I have to suspect that the potential jurors will be getting their notices any day now. It's usually a 5/6 week notice before you have to call and see if you need to show up?

I've been checking my mailbox AND the mailboxes of all my neighbors to see if any Jury Summons come in. HaHa

Of course if they did...I'd have to keep it a secret.

Macushla, to answer your question as simply as possible - the Okeechobee swamp area, under a rock.....OR

Small towns like Mulberry, where they pull in the sidewalks at 8pm.

or people like my hubby that shuts off the channel everytime he sees a baby murdered story.
I'm surprised at how many people say they never followed the case, but then again I'm up in PA.
