Well, yes, I could see why criminals would, but in this case I was referring to a friend of James. Unless for a purpose such as hunting, I don't know why someone would have a weapon in their car, unless they are planning to use it. I've never known anyone who carries guns in their cars but I'm sure some people do. But I would think they would have a reason. Jmo
Lots of people have concealed carry’s... you would be amazed how many people actually carry everyday. I do, most of my family does. I don’t go anywhere without it.

Who would carry a very high calibre gun possibly a rifle in their car?

I know a number of people that carry guns on their person daily out and about town, in their car or truck. Small arms are typically .50 caliber and less utilizing smokeless powder. I am not certain where the caliber limit is in black powder firearms, but, if it is 3/4" bore and larger it would not surprise me. Fifty caliber being 1/2 " bore diameter. While the caliber has some bearing on the power and range of a bullet, the cartridge case capacity for gun powder and the bullet shape play a larger part in the distance a bullet travels and the residual power downrange.

Guns are tools much like a fire extinguisher. They are great to have if you need one, and like a fire extinguisher it does you no good if it is empty.

Haven't been following until now but wondered from beginning why they are using such a terrible picture of Jayme for missing? Why not use a picture where she has her head up looking straight at the camera? It would be difficult to ID her from the picture on the alert.
I have been wondering this as well. There are many good photos of her. The common one seemed like an odd choice to me.

Sherrif confirms to @FOX9. Law enforcement has officially released the scene after 11 days. Investigators are done at the Closs house & turned it back over to family. The question remains though, what happened inside that house? #FindJayme

For 1st time since I arrived in Barron on Oct 15, the mobile crime scene trailer is gone from the Closs family home on Hwy 8. No police presence. No crime scene tape. Not sure what it means in the efforts to #FindJayme Perhaps onto next phase of investigation? #FindJaymeCloss

Hopefully, they use the photos of her in the denim jacket. There are three of them. Those photos were very likely taken just hours before this all happened. The one of her outside where you could easily see the the leaf colors and fallen leaves indicates very recent. That is the closest to what she looks like, everything else is older or done up (not how she would appear day to day), like for a class photo or worse older photos where she has a more child-like as opposed to young adult look.

(This is just my opinion and it is speculative based on a lot of online research in the area and my experience within the criminal justice system)

I believe it was someone who knew them, either through friends or family. Someone who worked with the girl’s parents. This perps are likely violent with a criminal past. I say that because if it was a drug related robbery, they had no reason to keep Jayme. It’s likely a sexually motivated for at least one perp and robbing them for the other(s).

Theory:
On the night of the crime, Perp 1 and perp 2 go to the Closs home. perp 3 (who probably works at Jennie-O's) is the lookout and lets 1 and 2 know when the father leaves the plant (Mr. Closs’ shift ended at midnight). perp 3 notifies 1 and 2, so they make entry into the house. The father clocks out at midnight, goes to his car, and drives home. He arrives and enters his home... at 12:31 (when neighbor hears shots) he is ambushed and killed by the perps inside. This creates a panic (probably) and a struggle ensues in which the mom is able to get away and hide in the bathroom. Perp 3 (who followed dad home from Jennie-O) grabs Jayme, while the other two go after the mother.
Between the perps who entered the house first and by the time dad came home, they were likely able to get some valuables...

They make their way either to MN, or somewhere in that area (all 3 of them most likely have lengthy criminal records in multiple counties, so they have plenty of hideouts).

the Cars likely arrived at the scene at different times, but were captured leaving together/ following one another.

Why did law enforcement go to the casino after dropping the dog off <modsnip - family>? Do you know that dad worked that night? If the shifts end at 1 pm, why would dad, a reported
manager, get out an hour before? Perhaps because the run for the night finished early?

He may have wanted to finish what he started, and realized that could only be done away from the house.

There is always a chance that he wasn’t known to extended family.

Agreed. Especially if said person/people sensed LE was coming (like if the 911 operator could possibly be heard calling back/phone ringing).

So the motive was what? to drive up , hop out at midnight, go brazenly to a front door, bash in door, kill the dad , or kill dad through door and then shoot door open, terrorize and kill mom and knock daughter out -take her somewhere else and kill her, so the motive is surprise thrill kill of family that you didn't know was or could. have been armed because they were strangers to you and you depended solely on surprise and intent to murder?

Maybe. Lack of true facts still leaves us with hundreds of possible motives.

What single motive would applying the principle of Occam's Razor suggest?

I've only come up with a partial theory of the beginnings of what happened that night. I assume Jayme was in bed as it was after midnight and there was school in the morning. I think James came home from work and was relaxing, not in bed because he would have been wound up from work. Denise, I believe was waiting up for James. I think the perp pulled up in the driveway and approached the front door. I think James opened it because it was someone he knew and didn't feel threatened until he saw the gun, then tried to shut the door. The perp kicked the door in and shot James right as he came inside the door, Denise ran for Jayme and pulled her into the bathroom with her, dialed 911. The perp broke into the bathroom and grabbed Jayme, then shot Denise. I think Jayme was groggy from being woke up and the commotion, and went willingly with the perp because he was familiar to her, and he threatened her (and maybe to kill her dog next) I think whoever the perp is is known to the family, at least an acquaintance. and had some kind of interest/obsession with Jayme.

Just want to add: I don't think a shotgun was used as I believe most people who live near the forest or woods know what a shotgun blast sounds like. I don't think the neighbors reported that specifically

I haven't ruled out an unknown serial killer from out of state, or a person known to the family, or a local drug fueled maniac, or even a distant relative. That doesn't narrow it down much. Jmo

I completely agree. At this point it really could be anyone. If it was someone close to the family I feel like LE would know by now or at least have a pretty good idea. Who knows, maybe they do we just don't know about it. They could have a POI for all we know but don't want to tip that person off because the main goal at this point is to bring Jayme home. They could be searching for this person, obtaining warrants, etc without the general public knowing.

I also don't think this was a serial killer but as we have discussed there have been cases where families were targeted by a random person they have never met and that person took the children (we all know which cases I am referring to, Joseph Duncan as en example).

I'm not getting the drug fueled maniac vibe from this case but I have nothing to base that opinion on other than my gut instinct. Whoever did this clearly is not emotionally stable but I don't think they did it in a drug fueled manner. I think it was more serious serious anger and hate for some reason that likely combined with some undiagnosed or untreated mental illness. I am not trying to make light of mental illness. It is so common and I believe everyone has been affected by it either directly or through family and friends. With that being said, we all know that there are some diagnoses that left untreated and combined with anger, rage, etc can snowball into terrible situations where the person places themselves or others in grave danger.

I think people would surprised as to how many people carry guns in their cars in that area.

I lived next door to Wisconsin ( Minnesota). There are a lot of strange crimes in Wisconsin. Ed Gein. Jeffrey Dahmer. A man who continued to have sex with dead horses.

I think Wisconsin is in the top three of states in the US that has alcohol problems. And we see from reports that the meth problem is huge in that area. Lots of RSO in that area.

There are also some unusual cults .

With those dysfunctional indicators, there can be many people who have led troubling lives.
As I am now curious as to how many people carry guns I just looked it up. About 6 percent of Americans have a concealed license to carry. So they as well as those who carry illegally may have a gun in their vehicle. That leaves about 90% who do not. Jmo

If someone came to my house at that hour, I would call out and ask who is there.

So what was the answer. If dad did not like the answer, what would he do?

If he liked the answer, why would the perp kick in the door?

IMO, just applying Occam's razor, the motive would be to take Jayme since she was taken from the home and the parents killed inside the home. This is just based on what is known so far but if I were applying it to this case, and based on only what has been shared with the public, that would be the motive I think Occam's razor would suggest

Some states consider your car to be an extension of your home, and it is legal to have a loaded firearm in your car. I’m not sure what the law is in Wisconsin. Where I live it is legal, and very common for people to carry guns in their vehicles.
