Neighbors report hearing 2 large caliber gunshots early this AM. Describe Closs family as "extremely quiet, almost reclusive." Now just praying 13yo Jayme Closs turns up safe. Still no word on her whereabouts more than 12 hours after the shooting at family home on Hwy 8, Barron

This is obviously from early on... but interesting that the neighbour who heard the shots describe the family that way. Interesting to me anyway. From other reports, it seemed like the mom was quite social. I wonder why they would seem stifled, silent and 'reclusive' as a family at their own home?
This neighbor wasn't even within sight really (separated by wooded berm). How in the heck does she know anything about what went on in the Closs home, they were not even acquaintances IIRC?

James/Denise worked full time jobs, raised a daughter and participated in social activities. IDK how that's being stifled or reclusive???

They're holding a candlelight memorial around 4:30 pm IIRC for Jayme at the BCCC. The Amber Alert is still active and Fitzgerald has given a few updates when possible. IDK what else publicly they can do, but we have no idea at what is going on behind the scenes.

I'm sure DNA testing is continuing to come in, tips being reworked, digital footprints being combed over again, re-interviewing family, friends, coworkers and any surveillance videos. I think they're doing all they can to solve this IMO.

I'm not questioning LE actions. more the everyday people the family knew or anyone from the town or the rest of the family. I know everyone reacts differently, this much time though and so little said. the everyone reacts differently part is why I would expect someone to be talking more by now. I don't know how at least a percentage of people there aren't coming unglued at least a little. I would feel sure no one wants this solved more than local LE. they live there, at least some have children themselves. there may be much more known than we will ever know.
tree lighting is great but it would be great too if something kept her face on national media too.

Why is the dang quote feature all messed up again??? It keeps defaulting to multi-quote.

Anyway....

@trailrunningmrs. nah. I debunked myself. Two different doors. Also a million posts back there is a reference to the back door, which is still on the house, also with pumpkins from when they were removing evidence. The doors both had pumpkin decals, but the one carried out was the front storm door.

Sorry, you've lost me.... can you please elaborate? I wasn't talking about Jayme shooting her knight in shining armor in my post that you are replying to?
Her cousin described James as Jayme’s knight in shining armor the day after the murders. So yes, when you suggest she shot her dad, that is what you are suggesting. Nothing we know about the victims’ personalities and relationships points to any of this being probable.

My big thing I continually come back to is where James was and even where the family was that day and in fact the past few days.

It seems to me James' whereabouts are avoided entirely and never confirmed in a definite manner and certainly not by time frame. We have a lot of the time frame regarding Jayme and Denise at least with regard to the party.

Another reason it bothers me is just say Denise and Jayme stopped at Dairy Queen on the way home or even on the way to the party, grabbing a cake for her sister's grandchild because it is on her way and they seem like that type of family, to help the others host or throw a party. Please note, I know nothing about the DQ, I am just using it as an example just as I could use Kwik Trip or the grocery store, the Dollar Store or McDonald's....

Now let's just say I was in the same place with my similar aged daughter if I had one about five minutes ahead of Denise and Jayme. I never even saw them nor was I in the business at the same exact time. But now let's say a man approached and talked to my daughter that made me feel quite uncomfortable even though he did nothing really wrong but maybe was just a bit odd. Maybe it is a stranger or maybe the clerk seems to know him so we dismiss it even more. We leave, go home, nothing happened and we are safe and it leaves the memory as unimportant. For no reason would we connect or relate this to Denise and Jayme as at no point in the investigation have ever been told they were even in that business.

Now fast forward at least 24 hours and longer probably for many people, or people not from the area before we hear about this. And we know the Amber Alert took some time. Yet it is never said Jim stopped here, Jayme and Denise stopped there, just turn in any tips. Many people do not want to bother if they think their tip may be silly, others know nothing is private and maybe do not want to appear to be a sycophant or a fool, etc. AND they may dismiss it as not important OR because again, they have no idea it could relate, they do not report it. In the beginning my initial guess for a long time was the party was in Rusk County over near maybe Denise's or James' family members or even elsewhere. If I recall correctly, we did not even know for which side.

If one wants to jog someone's memory OR to have them realize what they basically forgot about may have been important it would help to hear they stopped at this business, etc. when one has a missing child. No area, no vehicle, no direction traveled, no timeline. It is just odd to me.

That is one example of many I could think of where the people may not have seen the victims nor even been in the place anywhere at all near the same time as the victims but it could be significant, etc. It could be a car you passed, a couple arguing in the parking lot that you would not have connected to anything, again an odd man at the DQ, etc.

To me, the longer that information is not shared, the less chance someone will have a fresh memory on what day it was, or how exactly it went, etc. I mean just look at the neighbors with the gunshots and that was just hours later but apparently, they were wrong with their memory and account...

This is one of my biggest hang ups. I cannot come up with too many reasons not to share this or how it could negatively affect the case and it very well could have or still could help it. All that I can figure is it plays in and they do know something big we do not know and Lord, I hope so.

Friday was a day off school, where was Jayme? What did the family do Saturday?

I know some will say it was said James was at work but that point has never quite been cemented nor solidified. We also heard the sheriff say he was unsure about Jayme's phone and we later found out it was plugged in in the kitchen. I do not think that was missed in the initial investigation.

This in no way is a knock or insult of law enforcement; I am simply saying this information is pretty vague and I can only figure it is intentional and even perhaps for a very good reason. I just know I am not very familiar with Rusk County for instance but spent days trying to think of who lived over there that I could think of, what businesses existed, etc. and who may have seen something strange.

It is not any duty of law enforcement to inform the public of an investigation and there are really important reasons they do not and I get that. Which, to me, is why this information not being provided seems significant.

Does anyone else feel this way and understand what I mean? It is a point I cannot get past and a big one to me.

Sorry for the very longwinded post. I am fairly confident I broke no rules this time :)
I missed the part about where that truck had been parked.. but yes, that is VERY interesting. I watched a news video which showed me what you are talking about. Too bad he didn't park right directly immediately behind the other vehicle, if there was one. What explanation could there be for him parking that way? Who wants to park on the road in the country when it's a further walk to the door, when they can park in the driveway? Do you know where there is a good shot of how he parked? The one I saw looked as if he could have been crosswise behind his wife's vehicle at the end of the driveway?
Yes, I would like to see that to.
I agree!! I feel like everyone is being too quiet!!! Friends... Family.... Community Members...
i also feel the same way.

@Cardinal47 in response your question about the doorbells. If you have an existing doorbell they are very easy to install. You use the same wiring that is already there, put this little resistor thing up where the chime is (sometimes it needs a bit of a power boost so you need that) and then run through the install on your phone. Super easy and for $30 a year I get to see everything that happens on my porch. Including my kids being naughty the second they leave for school.

The only known issue that can be a hangup is if your internet speed isn't fast enough (dialup, satellite, some low speed DSLs won't work) then it won't be able to connect. If you are an everyday regular streamer like I am, your internet is most likely fast enough. Or if your router is too far away, but they make things to resolve that as well.

Probably just didn’t want to socialize with those particular neighbors. Most of us have experienced that kind of neighbor you simply avoid.

It would be great for more media attention ITA, but unfortunately ratings $$$ drive media coverage and until there is something sensational or a major break in the case, they move on to the next big thing.

Questions I have:

Were all 3 family members up at the time? One might think Jayme would have been in bed.

Has it been reported what the victims were wearing? As in, perhaps Denise was wearing a nightgown, pajamas or robe, that might indicate she was already in bed.

Was it normal for the family to be up at that time of night? Did Jayme have a set bedtime? Or did she often stay up late?

If all 3 family members were up, or even 2 of them, were they waiting for a visitor, perhaps a friend or family member, to stop by for a moment? Or for a visit? The hour was late, I know, but people who work evening shifts might visit with someone else who works evenings.

Could they have been waiting for an acquaintance to stop by? To borrow a tool, return something borrowed, to speak to one of the family members? To drop off something James had forgotten at work?

Or could a coworker have said he was coming by after his shift ended to drop off something James or Denise had left at work?

Just brainstorming to think of possibilities.

I am still wondering if it could have been someone who knew at least one family member. Someone local.
I definitely think the killer was known to the family, but all scenarios are still on the table at this point. Always in the back of my mind is a theory that I cannot share due to WS rules.

Think this is just diff social circles. Sure there are people in your neighborhood u don’t know those u do... plus their house is protected by trees and across a highway.. would almost be weird if they said we see them 3/4 times a day.. jayme had trampoline/ in church / dance / track. They weren’t hiding her... neighbors are looking for someone to talk to.. Closs had somewhere to be .....job / school /etc.

I am so sorry for your terrible loss! But, thank you for sharing your story because so many people don’t understand what happens with the brain when blood touches it. Our son had a tree limb weighing over 200lbs fall across his forehead when we were camping. A “freak tragic” accident is what the arborists, police & everyone else called it. Anyway, my point here is that when blood touches our brain tissue it is like acid. You can never restore that part of the brain again. If the blood gets to the center of the brain (if I recall correctly) it is the pituitary gland, once the blood hits that there is no coming back. You are legally considered brain dead. The machines are the only things keeping your heart alive, keeping you breathing. Once those machines are turned off you can not survive on your own. My personal opinion; you are not living. You are just existing. I would rather give other families a chance to spend more time making memories and living with their loved one that needs a transplant.

BTW- it took the Doctors TWO days to finally announce our son brain dead. Sometimes it’s quickly, sometimes not so much.

Just my opinion & experience ;)
I am so sorry for your tragic loss. God bless.

I'm not sure how big the casino is, but alot of casinos are starting to use facial recognition. I'm curious if they asked for footage from inside the casino as well as outside... I have also been curious if the Casino has a hotel attached... maybe the perp could have had a room reserved the night before? or a room he went back to after the abduction? I know its a stretch to take a girl back to his room after this situation, but if he had Jayme subdued maybe go back to the room to buy some time and think

I can only tell you what I know. It is not the biggest casino. If you have never been to one, it seems big but compared to many it actually is not. But it is no little hole in the wall either, it is decent sized but it is no new on the strip of Vegas sized casino for lack of better words. There are two bars, three eating places, i think 3 bathrooms for each sex if i remember right, maybe four? It has been a long time. That may sound big but you can see the end of the room in the one room and in the other bigger room I believe you can as well. The motel is not attached but nearby. They shuttle to it though. There is overflow parking I think across Highway 8, whether that is camera covered or not, I have no idea. There is a 2nd motel, too, on the other side of the highway, seems newer, and just a bit up the road. Not sure if they shuttle to that but I imagine they do (do not think it is casino connected but many people stay there as well). I remember people I met there years ago even told me they would shuttle them to the local bars in town, which I thought was kind of cool. Maybe, I don't know 5 years ago or so, I heard they rented rooms out by the month, whether business was down or for other reasons, I have no idea and am unsure if they still do.

I thought too in the beginning maybe they took her back to the motel? If they already had a key they could enter through the back, etc. It also would be after 1 in the morning, one would think there would not be a ton of staff around. Seems really risky though, but heck what they did committing this crime was already risky right?

Thanks for the photos. I never saw the deck doors before.

Our thoughts are with 13 year old Jayme Closs, as Riverview Middle School in Barron, WI, will light a "Tree of Hope" for Jayme today at 4:45pm, the public is invited. Jayme has been missing since 10/15/18. We continue to ask for your tips at 1-855-744-3879. #FindJayme

Early on, after putting out the information on the red car and the black SUV, LE said they weren't looking for them anymore. I have looked back in the threads and can't find precisely what was the reason they gave. Surfing around, I have found some cars that fit their descriptions and that have potential to be connected to this crime but don't know if it makes a difference or even if I can post this comment. Not sure of TOS regarding this.

Excellent sleuthing!

Since we're sort of stuck with no new info, I thought I'd share an anecdote from my late uncle, who was LE for 40 years in his small hometown. He always used to say, "Criminals are stupid. And they always screw something up. Always. You just gotta wait 'em out." That's where we're all at now. As maddening as this case is, we just gotta wait 'em out.

I like this, and I want it to be true, but there’s just so many unsolved cases, and just as many cases where LE has a suspect but not enough to charge.

And I hate waiting. Especially when there’s a life or lives possibly at risk. :(

Not letting me quote but......
In reference to how quiet this case has been in the media spotlight....
I would also chalk it up to Nancy Grace and Ashley Banfield both losing their tv shows that spotlighted these kind of cases, As a matter of fact, they both were actively doing segments about Jayme almost every night before their shows were cancelled.
In reference to friends and family being so quiet.
Part of the reason is there is not much media ( read above for reference). Part of it, on the family side anyways, is that I believe that LE must have told them not to publicly name any gut feelings or POI's because it could get in the way of the investigation. Why else wouldn't brother Steve just have said what his gut feeling was on the interview? I will say that the community does seem to be very bonded together and they are trying to get the word out. They have a public page that is very active. It is run and looked over by the family. They are selling ribbons, shirts and all kinds of things. If any rumors come about, they are very quick to delete them or say that it was confirmed by the Sheriff.
