I think I'm going to take a break from patio door forensics for now. :)

So, I wanted to scan over the chain of events since the murders and disappearance of Jayme. Now, I know that The Daily Mail isn't always the pinnacle of journalistic integrity, but much of their content is Associated Press reprints, and they have the videos (including the Smrekar interview). Here's a list of tons of stuff:

Ok... so early on in this saga, we were being given all sorts of crumbs. The Challenger and SUV. The SUV with WI plates in Florida. The casino video request. The Smrekars (the closest thing we know of to having witnesses). 2000 volunteers searching Happy Hollow (why there?). The brother implying he knows who did it. K9 searches.

And then... *poof* nothing. All of those things suddenly became, "nothing to see here - move along". It's almost as if the Sheriff's Dept., WisDOJ & FBI turned into the JonBenet Boulder team. I don't think so. There must be a reason for this other than 100% ignorance about everything. I can't help but wonder if they actually know who did this, but that person (or persons) is also missing, or perhaps they don't yet have enough for a warrant? I don't know... just thinking out loud...
Wouldn't the person missing be enough to label them as a POI if they have any connection to the Closs family?
Did the police ever say where they came up with the cars? It had to be something besides casino footage because there is 14 miles between to two and cars could have come from anywhere before driving by the casino.

"He said he noticed the patio door was unlocked and walked in and “immediately located a room off to the right that he believed belonged to Jayme Closs. The defendant stated that, while he was in Jayme’s room, he located a closet that was full of clothes,” the complaint alleges."

Ah, yes. He "immediately located a room..."

Thank you!

It bothers me that someone is trespassing and taking photos of a home where people were murdered.

Agreed. That's why I was wondering if anyone knew if these were personal photos someone took, or if they appeared in a MSM article. I certainly hope that LE knows about these (and any others floating about), and who took them.

I don't recall ever seeing an explanation for dropping interest in the cars. I don't know what (if anything) they got out of the casino, but it's 12.6 miles due west of the Closs house, and Happy Hollow is 7.5 miles to the northeast if you go right through the middle of Barron and past the Sheriff's office.

It just occurred to me that if the red challenger was a local car, people would know that and who owned it. Also in the first 2000 person search...why did they specify "2000" searchers? I thought maybe they based that number on a grid they came up with. Lots of activity in the beginning and now for over a month...nothing. It seems there is no urgency anymore. Maybe they do have a suspect or someone in custody and they won't tell LE where Jayme is. Would LE do that?? FBI quiet, family quiet, and LE quiet. Not even any rumors!!!

The closest thing I saw to an explanation on the lack of interest in the cars, was in the Dryden interview, IIRC. I believe there was a follow-up later with the sheriff clarifying, but I don't recall the source.

MOO: My interpretation was that they are still interested in identifying the cars, but the red car's identification as a Dodge Challenger may be incorrect. Seems the limited available images had the car experts in some disagreement as to the make and model.

I think they got so many tips from around the country that the interest in the cars became more of a hindrance than a help. MOO.

LE could very well have an idea, poor Sheriff F is not a very good 'bluffer' because he is such an honest and sincere person. I definitely don't think it's any type of cover up if he has had to withhold or redirect things in the investigation. I would 110% guess that it would be for the safety and return of Jayme and the integrity of the case; as it should be. JMHO

If Jayme was taken by someone known/familiar to the family, this could explain why they have been so hesitant to talk often or freely with the media and public. They're afraid for Jayme's safety and perhaps their own and rightly so. Someone just shot and killed James and Denise in cold blood.

Wow, I still can't 'type' that out without getting chills up my arm. This was such a brutal, extreme event but, I don't think it was random at all.

I wonder if the people across the street from "the neighbors" heard anything? Or anyone in the house around the corner across from the dairy farm?
IDK that anyone else has gone on the record about anything. I bet the neighbors that did speak are probably regretting it now. I don't think they ever lied to LE, but I was skeptical about the situation at first.

Now, I wouldn't be surprised to even find out that they were accurate after all. What really are the odds that there would be two loud gunshots heard at 12:31 or 12:51 (either one) on the same night, right next door to a brutal double homicide and not be connected? I would have to guess realistically slim to none. IDK how it ties in, but I think it does.

JMHO

How close are these houses to the Closs home?
Not as close as "the neighbors" but you would think they could have heard loud shots too.

There are other neighbors around so any of them could have shot at something. Maybe LE questioned them and they admitted to it and that is why they dismissed what the neighbors claimed?
If there was a homemade silencer used it frequently leaves pieces of itself that are identifiable as to what they were used for. If LE found evidence of that they would know the shots were unconnected?
I guess it just depends on how likely it is to hear shooting out there. I hear "gun fire" on a regular basis but my husband heard it one day and told me that was the noise the pilot lights on the oil pad make when they are trying to light. So some of the noise I thought was shots was actually that. It is also unlikely they would be able to tell what direction it came from.

Oh no, now my head is really spinning. I don't see how in the world they could keep everyone and everything quiet for this long.

I can def see and agree with that reasoning, but the coincidence to what occurred is what gets me. I might have to take a break from this case again. LOL

We are all but chickens running around with our heads cut off.

Like everyone else here, I've pondered a dozen or more possible scenarios. Every single one ends up running into a contradiction. I end up tilting my head like a dog watching another dog on the TV. There's just no plausible working theory for us mere internet mortals to work with. Watch it turn out to be something that none of us even considered.

Be all that as it may, I really, really hope this doesn't turn out to be like the Erin Caffey story. *shudder*
