I don’t post often, so sorry if someone had said this.... I think they know WAY more and a break is getting close. That SUV looking one kinda looks like the one in that video from the gas station. If I not mistaken... Not sure where that video is now. Someone even asked at the presser about if she had a phone... he said he can’t comment. So that’s what makes me think that they know a bunch..
'Tis usually the case. Vast majority of the time LE knows way more than they let on during pressers. The two main reasons why LE stays so tight-lipped in cases such as these are:
1) - When you finally get a suspect and question them, you want them to talk about/admit to/mention things that aren't public knowledge. This tells you that they had some involvement in the crime because how else would they know that? If all the facts of your investigation are public knowledge, then a perp or their attorney can easily say they saw or read it on the news.
2) - If you think you have a suspect or may even have the person you're after in your sights, you don't want to scare them off or cause them to do something drastic/stupid. You want the suspect or POI to feel a level of comfort as though LE isn't looking at them or don't know certain details that would lead them to that perp.
Or if you don't have that much, you want a perp to relax even further and feel like they've gotten away with the crime. A relaxed perp is more apt to get careless because they think LE heat is off them.
When Joseph Duncan kidnapped Shasta Groene, he was caught because he just walked into a Denny's and in public with her and started eating like nothing was wrong. Prior to that, Duncan had held Shasta and her brother at multiple campsites in the area and moved around but as time went on, he got more brazen and took her out in public. Duncan relaxed and made a mistake, they were then recognized by a waitress who kept them occupied and called 911. Duncan is on death row and Shasta was rescued.
Philip Garrido did this same thing with Jaycee Dugard as did Brian Mitchell with Elizabeth Smart. It's an LE tactic because it works.
