SoS ~ absolutely! Isn't it also ironic that after the 5/13/01 incident (that cost him his job), he would use the name MrHandcuffs? He specifically lied in the internal interview w/the CO of the West Allis P.D. about having handcuffs at his home that night. It's an interesting choice for a moniker.

I thought about his choice of usernames and in my opinion "mrhandcuffs" was chosen as a trophy or a way to brag about having attacked the woman in 2001 and not having charges filed against him.
I suspect that he was/is proud of having done that without legal consequences

again ~ absolutely! "mr handcuffs", it's dark and mocking, isn't it? and, it spells out exactly what he likes and why he went for them (and lied about it) when he attacked the woman in his apartment. highly doubt that night was the first time that he used them. can't help but feel that there was something really creepy about this guy. on the surface, back in the day, he wasn't a half bad looking man (almost hate saying that) but he had to have given off a vibe (besides his stalky behavior).

In his recordings"
He's silent and then he begins stammering (when asked about the condom)
He states he is "the victim"
He blames the victim
He takes no ownership of wrongdoing (for anything) Does admit to passing out business cards with home number but that is all.
Twists and manipulates the questions being asked.
And my favorite..."I'm always professional and gentlemanly"

Yes Oh That Victoria - SQUEAKY CLEAN!! :sweep:

Judy ~ this interview gives us a glimpse of what to expect in a major trial. he's pathological, alright. I can't imagine the HOURS it will take interviewing / interrogating him. but he does slip up, which is a good thing. Yeah, he's "the victim" ~ those women went off and died on him, how dare they?!?

Could be but I would venture to guess he chose the name due to the fact that he was a police officer for so long. I'd think it was a play off of his old profession.

Hindsight is obviously 20/20 but while listening to the videos, I sensed quite a crazy vibe. He seemed polite and well mannered but considering the allegations to date, he clearly has a dark side and is capable of doing horrendous things. He seemed almost like Dahmer or Ted Bundy.

The fact that his two known victims came from Minnesota and Oregon, I'm really concerned that he could be involved in murders that took place anywhere in the US. I hope they are taking look at any periods of unemployment or known travel; when he could have had a lot of extra time on his hands.

In reference to the interview (thank you mogr56 and copsdaughter for posting links!) Can anyone get the 7/17/01 link to play? I don't think the site embedded it. :/

Here's my take on the interview that he did the night of the 5/13/01 incident:

He does a great Eddie Haskell impersonation (clean as a whistle).

Would a gal really take money away from man (in front of him), place it in her purse (he had the color of the purse wrong, didn't he? black vs white/gold) and expect no recourse?

If he wanted his money back, why didn't he grab the WHITE AND GOLD purse away from her? Why did he go for her throat? Wouldn't it be easy for a guy his size to wrestle a purse away from a woman?

If he emptied his pockets out on the table (where he placed his wallet), would she not see his badge? Is she going to steal from a cop, really (esp if there were open warrants out for her arrest).

ahhh, the mystery condon - what more needs to be said?

then, there's the mystery of how the clothes relocated themselves in the hallway...

the CO who interviewed SZ the VERY day of the attack stated, "there won't be any criminal procedure here". Yes, he was immediately given the benefit of the doubt, wasn't he? and this is after there were other complaints filed against him by women for stalking and inappropriate behavior.

Thank you. I can't bring myself to listen to the interview just yet. It's just too infuriating to know Jenny and Laura's deaths may have been prevented had West Allis PD been more interested in protecting the public than one of their own and their agency. I hope Laura's family brings a wrongful death lawsuit against WAPD on behalf of each of her children.

With SZ's history he should have been required to register as a sexual predator.

Oh man, he's the victim? Wonder why he freaked out so much about the condom, maybe he was still having relations with the bodies? Ew.

That condom was from the incident in 2001 which led to his resignation from WAPD.

the condom was the "smoking gun" (so to speak!). it was clever of the victim to hide it under Taco Bell paper in SZ's waste basket (ok, clever or fortunate). she showed some survivor skills getting out of there.

Doesn't that recording stating " there wont be any criminal procedure here" contradict the reason given by WAPD for not pressing charges against SZ ?

I seem to recall WAPD stated that no charges were filed due to the victim not wanting to proceed.......

exactly! I think that after running her "priors" they decided (for her) that there wouldn't be a criminal procedure. that's what I mean by giving him the "benefit of the doubt". listen to the last minutes of the interview . . . the CO interviewing him is actually helping him along, then there's a pause in the recording. and it's all very familiar, he's steve (not the suspect). it was an inside investigation and they made their determination early on to let this one go...but he did have a track record which ultimately gave them no choice.

It should not matter. If she was scared, she was scared. The Police Dept. should have went in just to simply check it out.

OMG! More came out. It just gets worse. I have a lot of admiration for that woman who he supposedly hired. I asked around, and $300 is about right for escorts. Not that I know, I don't...but I was told by some friends that $300 is about right. And if she was so scared she left her purse behind? I know women who carry purses...and they do not freaking leave their purses behind. Never. Seriously. I am a gay woman and have dated a bunch, and I can say for absolute certainty...woman who carry purses do NOT leave them behind.

And I asked some friends what the usual pay is for an escort. Luckily, I have some honest guy friends. I asked. They said you pay first. So, that could explain how she ended up with some cash.

I don't know exactly how lawsuits work, but I would hope if they file a suit against WAPD, that it would include the Chief from 2001, which was Dean Puschnig. I also would like to know how much internal affairs had to do with it and how much the union at that time had to do with the lack of disciplinary action taken against SZ. I have a feeling Laura's family would get a lot farther if specific people from the department and union were targeted in the lawsuit.

Yup. You gotta watch out. Not kidding. MPD is under fire because of so many complaints. I know I don't deal with them unless I absolutely have no choice...if someone is hurt or something. Otherwise, no way.

It does not matter what the woman's profession is. If she was scared, she was scared.

Where's this citation from? Troubling stuff, for sure.

It also found Zelich tried to sell many of those women phone service as part of a side business he had with another officer.

Greg Peterson is president of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group, which sets standards for police agencies. He says the Zelich case is unusual but shows what can happen if departments don’t have clear policies on side jobs.

Thank you Wisconsin Sleuth - Can you believe the issue brought forward is selling cell phones on company time? Not that it was right - but honestly I hope they are putting time into investigating if there are more victims and how he murdered Jenny and Laura.

Wouldn't there be evidence of death if she died in the suitcase, though? Or perhaps in the car he was driving?

I'm not convinced Laura died at the hotel because she was found with the ball-gag in place and hands behind her back. It would seem to me (limited knowledge of BDSM) that she was being transported in that fashion for later fantasy...Maybe the goal was to keep her alive. It was a long ride back to West Allis with her head in a compromised position (neck flexed in suitcase) and gag in place. She may have died in the suitcase on the way to his house. Maybe that is why there is no proof she died at the hotel - I will be curious, too. LE must have a VIDEO of him leaving with the suitcase but I'm thinking laboratory results will have to prove if she died in the hotel or in the suitcase (or at his apartment).

Either way - there is something real fishy about not reporting the deaths. He never reported their deaths and attempted to dump them and get away with it. Knowing what we know about his personality while being a PO, he seems to me he is arrogant enough (narcissistic) to not give a darn of consequences and feels he's above the law...just my opinion.
