Boyfriend of missing Wisconsin woman, Melissa Trumpy, arrested in Stephenson County | MyStateline.com

Nov 25
Derek Hammer, 35, the boyfriend of Melissa Trumpy, a missing Wisconsin woman whose abandoned car was found in Stephenson County, has been arrested.

According to the Stephenson County Jail, Hammer was arrested Friday on charges of cannabis possession in connection with a 2019 case, and is being held on a $200,000 bond.

Eyewitness News reached out to Hammer’s attorney, Audrey Anderson, with Anderson Attorneys and Advisors, who said, “There is nothing that I can say about his arrest today.”

No one has seen the 37-year-old Trump since October 26, when she headed to Hammer’s house in Shannon. Trumpy’s car was found abandoned in Stephenson County the next day.

Just more than a month before Trumpy was last seen, Hammer was charged with Domestic Abuse. His arrest on that charge came after Trumpy’s son told his teacher he saw Hammer hit Trumpy and pull a gun on her.

I wondered why $200k bond for weed - it was 11 pounds.

Melissa Trumpy’s family continues the search for missing woman | MyStateline.com

Nov 28
This weekend marked more than a month since loved ones of Melissa Trumpy last saw or heard from her.

Carroll County, Stephenson County, the FBI and Illinois State Police are all working to locate Trumpy, and the most recent search happened this weekend in Freeport.

Affrunti and Mboge said that they feel Trumpy’s boyfriend, DH, is the key to finding her, and that they think he hurt Trumpy.

DH was arrested in Carroll County on unrelated charges the day after Trumpy was reported missing. Mboge and Affrunti were shown his mugshot from that arrest, which showed injuries to his face.

It is unknown how he was injured, but Trumpy’s family had an idea.

Public records were not available over the holiday weekend to show why he was rebooked, but they will be looked for Monday when the courts open.

The Green County, Wisconsin District Attorney said Sunday night that he has issued more than half a dozen warrants and subpoenas in an attempt to find out where Trumpy is.

‘There’s a no-body homicide:’ Officials continue the search for Melissa Trumpy | MyStateline.com

“We have a large team of investigators working on this case, they’re working on it everyday every night. We haven’t stopped since day one and we aren’t going to stop,” Kloepping said. “As the information gives us new areas to search, that’s what we’ll continue.”

[...]

“We’re looking at every aspect at this point,” Kloepping said. “Missing person, homicide, we’re looking at every aspect.”

Several agencies are now involved, and search crews are using drones, cadaver dogs and helicopters. Kloepping said that the searches include looking for remains.

Green County District Attorney Craig Nolen said he thinks that this is a homicide case.

“Given the fact that today’s November 30, we’re looking at 35 days, give or take,” Nolen said “We’re operating under the assumption that there’s a no-body homicide fundamentally.”

It's just the same old sad story, time after time. Domestic violence is endemic to our society.

It might be a good idea to remove the "Could be in Shannon, IL" from the thread title. It makes it look like Melissa is missing voluntarily when LE have stated that they believe her boyfriend hurt her.

Family demands answers in disappearance of Melissa Trumpy

Dec 05
Answers. That’s what loved ones of a missing Monticello, Wisconsin woman are asking for more than a month after her disappearance.

Trumpy’s loved ones grow more desperate as time passes and temperatures drop. They say while they’re thankful for law enforcement’s help, they need more information.

Family and friends are convinced answers on Trumpy’s whereabouts lie with the family of Trumpy’s boyfriend DH.

“They lawyered up before we even knew Melissa was missing, they already had a lawyer retained. The whole entire family did. And they have not once come to us and said anything. The fact that he’s not even listed as a person of interest is really unacceptable,” Affrunti said.

While some have theorized Trumpy ran off because of pending criminal charges, loved ones say she would have never left voluntarily, especially without her kids.

Carrol County, Stephenson County, the Illinois Police and the FBI are all heading up the search. Findings should be reported to any of these departments.

Cold temperatures intensify search for missing woman

Family and friends of missing Monticello woman Melissa Trumpy have had enough. More than a month after she vanished, they demand answers into her disappearance. They are convinced answers lie with the family of Trumpy’s boyfriend DH.

In November, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office announced the FBI joined the investigation into Melissa Trumpy's disappearance.

Affrunti and several other family members and friends are putting up flyers and searching fields in Shannon, Ill., one of the last places Trumpy was seen.

Affrunti said the search is difficult.

"Law enforcement, they're not telling us a lot and it's hard to even know where to look," he said.

Green County DA: Missing woman with boyfriend just before disappearance
[...]

Derek Hammer, 35, was charged with felony bail jumping Friday. Hammer and Trumpy face identical drug dealing charges in Green County, and Hammer's bail terms bar him from contact with Trumpy.

Authorities said Trumpy, of Monticello, was last seen October 26.

The criminal complaint against Hammer in the bail jumping case stated Hammer was with Trumpy on that date.

"(Melissa Trumpy) Was present at (friend's) residence...in Shannon, IL, with...Derek Hammer, in the basement," the complaint states. The complaint also says Trumpy and Hammer went in and out of that friend's home on that day.

Hammer's criminal history includes convictions in Nevada. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest reports state in August 2016, Hammer strangled a girlfriend after she objected to Hammer bringing marijuana plants into her home.

"(She) Stated she was losing breath and thought Hammer was going to...kill her," reports say. "(Hammer) Threatened to throw her over the second story balcony," according to police reports.

The search continues for Melissa Trumpy, who has been missing since late October. Melissa’s family and friends organized a search Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Shannon IL, as well as a vigil at a local church in Shannon. Unfortunately, there were no reports of finding Melissa.

:(

This one breaks my heart. I appreciated the honesty of the family of Melissa…they put it all on the table…good and bad. What stinks is the areas she could be located are incredibly rural. I am guessing she was buried in a shallow grave in an area with trees…and that could be anywhere. :(

Much of it has been shared here previously but I'll paraphrase, according to the rules for paywalled articles, the part that stands out to me:
  • BA said after a custody hearing on 10/25, detectives approached Melissa about testifying against Hammer in one of his cases.
  • BA said after trying for two weeks to get her to tell on him, she did it on the day before she disappeared.
  • Melissa's friend, DK, said she was hesitant to help police because she was afraid of Hammer.
  • DK said that Melissa told detectives if Hammer found out she was talking, he might do something to her.
Melissa Trumpy: Friends say last days are clues to disappearance

Trumpy’s sisters say things have slowed down in her missing person’s case, and her children and family are in need of answers.

“We want the community to help us...because people saw things, obviously, people are messaging me,” said best friend of Trumpy Sheena Vyse. ”Theres a lot more out there that people know I feel like... I mean we could have this conversation for the next 6 hours,” added Mgobe.

The family assumes that Trumpy is most likely dead, and their hopes are to find a body so her children can finally have closure. Mgobe adds that she and the family are frustrated the police haven’t given them anymore information, but understand that a lot of it has to be “off the record”.

The Trumpy family encourages the community to spread the word about Melissa’s disappearance, and visit their Facebook page at Bring Melissa Trumpy Home.

Feb 03, 2022

The family of Melissa Trumpy, who was reported missing at the end of October, says they are losing hope that she will ever be found.

Mandy M’Boge, Melissa’s sister, says she had begun to believe Melissa was murdered.

M’Boge said she is not sure why Trumpy’s car was found so far away from Shannon, but said she has some ideas.

“I just think he randomly put it there to throw us off. It was just a ruse. He just parked it there. There was nothing wrong with it. Her belongings were all in it, so it was just planted there,” she said.

M’Boge is referring to Trumpy’s boyfriend, Derek Hammer, who is currently in custody in Stephenson County on a drug charge. He’s also charged in a September domestic abuse case against Trumpy in Green County.

“The one person who knows everything, he’s not talking. He lawyered up,” she said.

Green County DA says Trumpy's case likely a 'no-body' homicide

Feb 02, 2022
"Right before Christmas, we just, stopped really getting updates from the police department down there," said Mboje.

Green County District Attorney Craig Nolen said evidence gathered indicates that Melissa Trumpy's disappearance is not of her own volition, marking the beginning of closure for those who loved her most.

"The fact that they are least saying what they believe happened to her, then she's not just a missing person," said Affrunti.

Nolen also said the evidence and inability to locate Trumpy led him to believe her case is likely a "no-body" homicide.

"The personal effects that Melissa left, I feel like she wouldn't have left behind. She wouldn't have left them behind willingly," said Mboje.
