Back in court on Wednesday ...

:beagle:

I don't see how the sick and neglected dog "Coya" could have been following Reena around prior to her being found deceased in the canal. That dog had to be ill and barely able to walk.

In a video news link last night, the dog was said to be found in the house and his neglected condition is listed as part of the criminal complaint.
In an earlier news link, the dog was said to be found on the property??
I tried to view the criminal complaint last night to see exactly how it was stated, but the document must not be available to the public yet.

Maybe, they were keeping the dog in the house to keep it alive and prevent other animals from attacking it ... just maybe. Pretty disgusting to think that but it's the only reason I can come up with.

In more searching of the premises authorities found a dog “Coya” on the couple’s property who had been severely neglected. The toenails on each foot were extremely long causing the foot to flatten and the toes to curl up. It was covered in fleas and had an extreme loss of hair to the back half of its body. There were open sores on rear legs, underbelly and back. The dog was lethargic."

And this is the dog that Reena played with and went everywhere with her? No telling what she could have caught from it. Lazy and unfit are words that are too kind for mommy and daddy. I hope they throw the book at them.

I was thinking that last night, but didn't mention it. That dog was being eaten alive by mange parasites...and probably a couple of parasitic worms as well; which can be passed to children thru the dog's feces....and she was running around barefoot alot..from the reports.
We may hear of that if the testing was done and/or they were suspicious of it. imo

What truly careless people they are. I'm betting we are hearing just the tip of the iceberg. :furious:

I first doubted the mother when she stated the dog came from the river, but it could be she just calls the canal the river also. Officials stated the dog, which belongs to the people who have found her before, was found a few feet from where she was found....and had been in the water because he was wet.

On the day of Reena’s disappearance and subsequent drowning, a woman in downtown Danbury saw Reena walking alone, a half mile from her home, at approximately 5 p.m. She approached Reena, who was with a dog the girl said belonged to “Billy Bob” (a friend of the family) and added that she was looking for her mother.

After returning home the woman said a neighbor informed her that a little girl was missing. She reassured the neighbor that she had already found the child - but the neighbor said ‘no, she’s missing again.’ The woman then went looking for Reena again and saw Reena’s mother standing in the road talking on a cell phone, obviously not looking for her daughter. When she arrived at the parent’s home, she said a dog named “Taz” (a dog belonging to a neighborhood resident) who was soaking wet.

Parents Released from Jail on a Signature Bond - Mon., Sept 24

Jenna Danish and Thomas Williams Jr.

Parents charged with "Neglect of a Child Resulting in Death" were released from jail Monday, Sept. 17, on a $25,000 signature bond. (Correct date for bond hearing is Mon., Sept. 24. See Link below.)

Judge Ken Kutz waived a cash component of the signature bond as the couple had less than $20 to their name.

Kutz ordered they maintain absolute sobriety and remain living in Burnett County. They must notify the clerk of court if they move from the county.

Initial appearance set for Sept. 26 at 2 p.m at the Burnett County Government Center.

:what: So ... if you get arrested for neglecting your child because child died, you just tell the judge you can't make bail as you are down to $20, ... and he says that's O.K., just go ahead and go on home.

And by the way, remain living in the county ... but, if you move ... just notify the clerk! What kind of a courtroom is this???

They seemed to have money to spend on drugs!!!

Their three year old is dead. They had drugs in the home. They have been charged with neglect, and had to turn themselves in because they couldn't be found to be arrested. Now the judge tells them to stay sober and stay in the county, and lets them go?

Parents Released from Jail on a Signature Bond - Mon., Sept 17

Thank you, southernnana,

The date in this article appears to be wrong: it should be Sept. 24, based on prior articles.

ITA!

I had posted way upthread that I doubted arrests would even be made, and now I'm thinking that prosecution will be less than vigorous. :-/

Absolutely sobriety. Hmmmm. If they are true addicts, that will not be possible - they will use, and they will go back to jail.

Shana, thank you for catching the error on that bond hearing date! I have corrected the date in my post and added a different news link with the correct date.

The bond hearing is making me very uneasy! You may have been onto something with your post upthread! News should be coming out tonight or tomorrow morn on the hearing held today. And, the court records should be updating overnight.

First of all, thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for keeping this story alive. Nothing will bring back this precious little girl but there are so many issues here. My family happened to be on vacation in the area when Reena went missing & joined in the search. It was clear that residents were blaming the parents from the beginning.

JW brother is Bigred: This is a comment he made (in writing) after the arrest, "Not a person alive is dumb enough to touch them." The intimidation factor is huge in this small town.

The home is in an unbelievably scary place!

Residents were well aware of drug use by both parents.

JD babysat for two infants after losing her job at the casino a few months prior to Reena's death.

JD and TW have some very loyal friends.

Both have been released on a signature bond!

Numerous residents report seeing Reena wandering alone frequently. They are devastated for failing to report but most only saw her once/twice. It wasn't until Reena's death that all the pieces came together.

TW did not call LE to report missing child. This call was made by fisherman after TW said "we don't need no cops."

Drugs were found inside the home while Reena was still missing.

Feeling in Danbury is that parents will get probation. Anger is high! Drugs and public assistance does not sit well.

Residents fear retaliation.

Justiceforreena, thank you for the info re intimidation.

I may be reading too much into your post, but what persuasive factor of such magnitude could the parents be holding over their community? Are you suggesting they are suppliers with threatening friends in high places, or what?

(Hoping this is OK to post...if not, 'tis an honest mistake.)

~jmo~

Justice, thanks for the update. I am sure the citizens of that town/area are not happy at all. They step out and do the right thing for this child....and the judge lets the parents pass on a felony of basically allowing her death.....and intimidation from the family was a factor as well. Absolutely makes no sense to me..at all. Way to go Judge in backing your caring citizens. The poor witnesses whose names have been released must be spinning. Let NG get ahold of this story...oh, boy.

What recourse can the public there do at this point?

JMO

Residents whose names have been made public fear personal safety for themselves and family members. LE is aware but why release on a signature bond?? What do they have to gain by sticking around?

The term "not intentional" negligence baffles me! The baby is dead!

Sheriff Roland and the judge seem the most intimidated of all....and the DA. What the heck?
